Officially Summer It is now officially summer and we are having wild weather, and so is the rest of the country. One day it is in the 80 s, and the next in the 50 s it's crazy. I went to college in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and there was so much flooding that entire roads were washed away unheard of up there; and would you like to be on the big island of Hawaii with the volcano erupting? I think not! So we should thank our lucky stars that it is not too bad here. Gary Cork is slowly recovering from back surgery, so let s hope he will be able to ride to Wing Ding. We also want to convey our condolences to the Nutting family for the loss of Steve's father, Warren, on Father's Day. And as Myron Benware said today, he no longer is eligible to be Chapter Director since he sold his trike and bought a beautiful Indian. Enjoy your new ride, Myron! A few of us went to Warrensburg Fair Grounds and Americade, and I don t think any of us were impressed or spent any money. Has Americade run its course? We left town and travelled to Bar Harbor and York, Maine, for almost two weeks, and had plenty of crab and lobster (so if you notice Tim is crabby, you will know why). People attended the Chapter dinner at The Factory, 8 people attended Chapter L s Americade dinner, and I understand only four people went on the Farmer s Museum ride. I presented a Road Captain s course for the Bangor, ME, chapter and they are similar to many chapters we ended the riding portion at an ice cream place. Upcoming is the Fourth of July (if you are on the roads, please be careful) and a boat ride on the Mohawk River. (Because you needed to buy your tickets in advance, this is a rain or shine (2, 3 or 4 wheels) event). There are many more events in July, so please check the schedule on line or in the newsletter. Also, if you were planning on attending the New England Districts' Rally in Southbury, CT, it has been canceled. Since the breakup of the Regions, attendance is down at the rallies, and the best one (personal opinion) of Region B has now been canceled. It seems that because Region has been eliminated, people don t seem to care as much AND we are losing the closeness we once had I hope this is what National wanted. Enjoy the Fourth of July and don t play with firecrackers!! You could get hurt! Eileen & Tim

Risk Management Part# 3 In the previous two months, I covered the first two P s in the "3 P s" of risk management: "Proper You" - are you personally prepared for the ride, rested and physically ready for the demands of a motorcycle? And "Proper Gear" - do you cover everything [on your body] that you want to use later in life? Remember, at our age, it takes much longer to heal when things go wrong. So let s discuss the third P of the three P s - the concept of risk management, "Proper Equipment". That s right, the last link in the chain of safety is your bike. Most of us park our bikes in the fall without paying too much attention to its condition, such as the tires. Then spring arrives, and without too much thought, we jump on the bike and go for that first ride. STOP THE PRESSES!!!!! What s wrong with that picture? As we all know, we all ride at different levels. For some, dinner rides are what they enjoy. These members might be lucky to travel 2000 miles in a year. Then there are members who ride 10,000 plus miles in a year. Regardless of your riding style, you should always perform a proper T-CLOCS before any ride, or at least once a week during the riding season. Understand your bike and know it s limits. If you follow at least some, if not all, of the points I have brought up in the last three months, it should help all of you enjoy the activity of riding for as long as you want. Chuckles... A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon and laid it on the table. The vet pulled out his stethoscope, listened to the bird s chest and informed the woman that her duck was dead. The distressed woman wailed, Are you sure? I mean, you haven t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something. The vet rolled his eyes, left the room and returned with a Labrador retriever. The dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and led it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, I m sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely a dead duck. The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck s owner, still in shock, took the bill and screamed, $150! Just to tell me my duck is dead? The vet shrugged, I m sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the lab report and the cat scan, it s now $150. Oh, here s one A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. But why, they asked, as they moved off. Because, he said, I can t stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer. Ok, one more I bought the world s worst thesaurus yesterday. Not only is it terrible, it s terrible.
