AIRWORTHINESS APPROVAL NOTE NO: 28251 Issue 3 APPLICANT: AIRCRAFT TYPE: Avionics Mobile Services Ltd. Learjet 35A REGISTRATION NO: G-LEAR CONSTRUCTOR'S NO: 35A-265 OPERATOR: INSTALLER: DESIGN ORGANISATION: CERTIFICATE CATEGORY: MODIFICATION NO: MODIFICATION TITLE Northern Executive Aviation Avionics Mobile Services Ltd. Avionics Mobile Services Ltd. Transport Category (Passenger) AM1410/AM1411 Installation of Honeywell Mk. Vlll EGPWS and Honeywell Flight Data Recorder Generally in Accordance With Bombardier STC 1. INTRODUCTION Avionics Mobile Services Limited modifications AM1410 and AM1411 introduce EGPWS and DFDR respectively, and are based on the Bombardier STC s ST00423DE-D (EGPWS) ST00351DE-D (DFDR). The installation of the Honeywell Mk. Vlll EGPWS to a Bombardier Lear Jet 35A provides terrain information, displayed on the combined radar and EGPWS KMD 850 indicator, positioned in the centre instrument panel. A Honeywell Flight Data recorder is also installed. The Radio Altimeter and Radar systems are upgraded to accommodate changes introduced by these modifications. Issue 2 raised to correct aircraft type designation. Issue 3 raised to correct CAA Approval number of EGPWS equipment in paragraph 4.2 and 5.7. 2. MODIFICATION DEFINITION The MkVIII EGPWS based on Bombardier STC ST00423DE-D provides ground proximity alert/warnings, advisory altitude and bank angle callout / warnings. The specific callout menus and outputs functions are configurable using a lap top computer. The information is displayed to the crew on the KMD 850 installed in the centre instrument panel. The system provides protection against the following. I) Excessive Decent Rate II) Excessive Terrain Closure Rate III) Excessive altitude Loss after Take Off or missed approach procedure IV) Unsafe Terrain Clearance V) Excessive Deviation Below Glideslope VI) Excessive bank angle. VII) Incorrect landing configuration
The EGPWS processor and mounting tray are housed on a shelf in the nose equipment bay. The Terrain display (RADAR indicator KMD 850) is located in the centre instrument panel. Annunciators are added to the P1 s and P2 s instrument panel giving indication for PULL UP and GPWS cautions and warnings. These annunciator s are configured to Honeywell s Lamp Format 2. A further three EGPWS annunciators are installed on the centre instrument panel indicating: a) FLAP O/RIDE (AMBER) b) GPWS INOP/TERR FAIL (AMBER/AMBER) c) TERR INHIBIT (AMBER) A dedicated cockpit speaker is installed for aural warnings. Audio is also supplied to unswitched inputs on the P1 s and P2 s audio panel. Air data is obtained from the newly installed I S&S Air Data System No.2 ADDU. This installation is covered by a Bombardier STC and approved by AAN28228. Heading data is obtained from the existing JET 5-2000-07 secondary directional Gyro auxiliary output The Roll data is provided to the EGPWS from an existing JET 501-1114-01 secondary vertical gyro Radio Altitude data is provided from the ALT 55B Glide slope data is provided from No. 2 NAV RX VIR 30 Flap position data is provided from No. 2 Stall warning Flap Down Micro Switch. Gear position data from the Nose Down Lock Micro Switch. Geometric Altitude is calculated within the EGPWC. A Cockpit display RADAR Indicator (KMD850) is housed in the centre instrument panel A description of the modification is contained in Avionics Mobile Project Certification Plan, Document No. CP/1410. The GPS information is received from an existing GPS antenna via a Honeywell Antenna splitter to the internal GPS receiver within the EGPWS processor. Note the B-RNAV information is supplied from the other GPS system. Avionics Mobile Services limited have produced a Safety Assessment for Modification AM1410 on the Bombardier Lear Jet 35A. Avionics Mobile modification Document AM1410 installation of Honeywell Mk. Vlll Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System EGPWS refers. The Radar Altimeter system is to be upgraded from an ALT50 to an ALT55B with a Flight Manual supplement covering this. The RADAR system has been upgrade to an ART 2100 making it compatible with the KMD 850 The Flight Data Recorder installation is based on Bombardier STC ST00351DE-D and covers the required five parameters plus (JAR-OPS 1.715). The FDR is to be housed in redundant aircraft racking in the rear of the aircraft and this is stressed to 10G. Provision for recording of EGPWS parameters is provided and future provision for recording of ACAS parameters is accommodated by laying in the wiring and capping. A DFDR Fail annunciator is installed on the centre instrument panel adjacent to the EGPWS annunciators. The parameters to be recorded are listed below. 2
