The island can be reached from the port of Piraeus by ferry in 4 hours and 15 minutes and by speedboat in 2 hours and 15 minutes. There are regular daily early morning departures, except Friday, when the boat departs at 16.00. The island s permanent population in the 2011 census was 1,420 residents. Of particular interest are the churches of the Castle, the Chrisopigi Church, the Panagia Brysi, the Mountain Monastery, the Ageloktisti Katavati, the Saint Sozon Church, the Panagia Kochi Church, the Panagia Gournias, Virgin Mary Sand, St George Afendis, Saint Luke and Saint Constantine. Famous is the Kastromonastiro of the Archangels in the northeastern part of the island, built in 1572 with fortress type construction, high outer walls, battlements, small openings in the walls and one only main entrance. MUSEUMS The Archaeological Museum has sculptured exhibits of the Archaic and Hellenistic period. The Folklore and Folk Art Museum exhibits traditional island life items, like farming tools, household items and local costumes.
