ITINERARY DAY 1: AMMAN - DEAD SEA Arrive in Amman and transfer to the Dead Sea. DAY 2: DEAD SEA You have a full day today to enjoy the unique attractions of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. One of the most remarkable bodies of water on the planet, the therapeutic properties of the Dead Sea have been attracting visitors for centuries and you can choose today between a float in its saline waters, a rejuvenating mud bath, a spa treatment, or perhaps just a chance to relax by the pool. (B) DAY 3: DEAD SEA Today you will head into the dramatic landscapes of the Wadi Mujiz Nature Reserve, to enjoy a refreshing four hour walk along the Hidan River. Meandering through towering canyons, you'll negotiate a path that takes you on to the river itself, before following its winding course through the rocks towards your lunch stop. This afternoon then provides a chance to visit the thermally heated, mineral rich falls at Ma'in, whose hot springs, heated to 63 degrees by underground lava fissures, provide an ideal spot for a bathe. (B) DAY 4: DEAD SEA - JERASH - AJLOUN Turing north today, your driver will take you on to the spectacular remains of Jerash, one of the finest Roman cities to be found anywhere in the Middle East. In the company of your guide, you'll wander along ancient colonnaded streets and past Roman theatres, soaking up the grandeur of one of the greatest cities of its time. Continuing into the rolling hills you'll then visit Ajloun Castle, to gaze out across the biblical landscapes of the Jordan Valley, before overnighting at the 180- year-old Al Asef House. (B,D) DAY 5: AJLOUN NATURE RESERVE - UM QAIS - AMMAN After a chance this morning to take a stroll through the local villages, where a charming collection of handicraft workshops have been set up, you'll then head for Um Qais, which once vied with Jerash as one of the great cities of the Roman Decapolis. With dramatic views across the Sea of Galilee and out towards the Golan Heights, its atmospheric ruins feature an array of black basalt ruins, temples and Roman baths. Later this afternoon you then drive on to Amman, site of the once important Roman city of Philadelphia. (B)
DAY 6: AMMAN A guided tour of the Jordanian capital takes in its ancient citadel, which once dominated the city from the heights of one of Amman's seven hills. Home to some of the city's most important ancient remains, the citadel can also boast the Roman Temple of Hercules and an 8th century Umayyad Palace. This afternoon you'll then head along the bustling thoroughfare of Rainbow Street, one of Amman's busiest streets, where you can mingle with the locals and try some traditional Jordanian street food. (B) DAY 7: AMMAN - DANA NATURE RESERVE Leaving the capital behind, your first stop this morning will be Mount Nebo, where Moses is believed to have been shown the Promised Land. On a clear day you can see Jerusalem in the far distance. Then it is on to Madaba, home to the remarkable 6th century mosaic map of the Holy Land, before completing the drive on to the Dana Nature Reserve and your stunningly sited guesthouse. This afternoon you'll then have time to enjoy a walk around the village and through the reserve. (B,D) DAY 8: DANA NATURE RESERVE A 14 kilometre hike takes you through the stirring landscapes of beautiful Wadi Dana today. Passing towering sandstone gorges and descending into the valley, the walk takes in an array of local flora and fauna and the odd passing Bedouin. This evening you'll then spend an unforgettable night at the Feynan Eco Lodge, where you can enjoy the romance of candlelight and a roof top terrace beneath the desert sky. (B,L,D) DAY 9: DANA NATURE RESERVE - LITTLE PETRA - PETRA The journey south continues today, taking you across landscapes that have remained unchanged for centuries as you head for the setting of Little Petra, smaller cousin to its more renowned namesake. After taking in its carved tombs and its siq, you'll then continue along an ancient walking trail that leads into the back entrance of Petra itself, bringing you out by the ancient city's magnificent monastery. Descending into the heart of the ancient Nabatean capital, you then exit the city by its famous Siq. (B)
DAY 10: PETRA Today you'll experience the full majesty of Petra, with a guided tour of one of the most impressive archaeological sites anywhere in the Middle East. Lost for centuries, this majestic rose red city presents a collection of colonnaded streets, royal tombs and towering monuments that have been carved from the very mountains that surround them. As night falls the entrance to the city is transformed by candlelight and you can walk through the haunting canyon walls of the Siq towards the iconic setting of the Treasury. (B,L) DAY 11: PETRA - WADI RUM The desert awaits this morning, as you switch to a 4WD vehicle for an unforgettable trip into the heart of Wadi Rum. In the company of a Bedouin guide you'll climb the dunes and explore the canyons of a landscape the Arabs call the 'Valley of the Moon'. After a traditional Bedouin lunch, you'll then make your way to your Bedouin camp, where you can enjoy the campfire and a traditional desert dinner before settling down for a night under the stars. (B,L,D) DAY 12: WADI RUM - AQABA A short drive this morning takes you from the mountains and the deserts sands of Wadi Rum to the glittering shores of the Red Sea and the historic port of Aqaba. Boasting golden beaches, colourful coral reefs and warm azure waters, it provides the perfect end to your Arabian adventure. (B) DAY 13: AQABA Today provides a chance to make the most of Aqaba's many attractions, with a free day to enjoy a range of activities; from relaxing by the pool to snorkelling, diving and glass bottom boat trips out into the clear waters of the Red Sea.
