TRADE PROSPECTUS FOR EXHIBITION STANDS & SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Dear Sponsor It is with great excitement that we invite you to exhibit at the next conference of the South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SASBMB), in conjunction with the Federation of African Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (FASBMB), which will be held at the North-West University (NWU) in Potchefstroom between 8 and 11 July, 2018. Potchefstroom is situated on the banks of the Mooi River in the North-Western Province, ±120 km southwest of Johannesburg. It borders the oldest and largest meteorite impact site in the world, called the Vredefort Dome a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Potchefstroom is among the oldest and most historic cities in this part of the country and, with the NWU at its core, has developed into the educational hub of the North-West Province. The SASBMB conference is held biannually and brings together lecturers, researchers, students, industry and society working, or interested in, the broad field of biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as the many associated disciplines such as biotechnology, immunology, and other health/medical, agricultural and natural sciences. This will be the 26th conference of the SASBMB, which has a proud history of presenting this conference over more than four decades on a rotational basis. As is done more or less every third rotation, this conference is held in conjunction with the FASBMB, which brings a broader - African - context to this meeting. Thus, appropriately, the theme for this conference is Life begins here, from which we can address a number of topics relevant to health, disease and technology in Africa. During the conference, the following twelve topics will be covered over the three days: Structural Biology Cell Biology Gene Regulation and Genomic Dynamics Plant Biology Drug Discovery & Medicinal Plants Infectious Diseases Inflammation and Immunity Non-communicable Diseases Inherited Metabolic and Neurodegenerative Diseases Biotechnology Systems Biology, Omics and Bioinformatics Bioenergetics and Biotransformation We will provide an intimate environment for this conference, which will be held on the scenic and friendly Potchefstroom campus of the NWU. Two main venues will be used, one for plenary lectures and another for parallel lectures, situated on either side of the university s main building. The conference is scheduled at a time of the year where all South African universities are in recess. It will also have a similar programme as previous conferences, starting on a Sunday afternoon (July 8th) and ending on the Wednesday (July 11th) afternoon. As per usual, two social events, including the SASBMB Gala Diner, will be scheduled, as well as opportunities for workshop meetings outside the main academic programme. Another key objective of the conference is to provide a platform of interaction between researchers and the companies that supply the indispensable technologies and materials for quality and state-of-the-art research. Since these companies are crucial partners in hosting these conferences, there are several sponsoring options available to companies interested in attending and promoting these interactions. We will, at the venue selected as well as during social events, provide a favorable environment for this to happen. For example, the stands provided will be situated centrally, between the four lecture rooms where the parallel sessions will take place and right next to the tea and poster area. On behalf of the organisers, I again warmly invite you to participate and attend this conference. We look forward to organizing this event over the next year and the formal and informal opportunities that this conference will provide. Yours sincerely, Prof FH van der Westhuizen Chair: SASBMB-FASBMB 2018 Organizing Committee
