Representing the Australian Accommodation Industry since 1969 2011 Accommodation Association The Accommodation Association of Australia has been evolving over a long period of time. The Motor Inn and Motel Association circa 1969 was formed to represent the interests of a rapidly growing industry. In 1991 the Association changed its name to the Motor Inn, Motel and Accommodation Association due to the changing styles of accommodation. In response to the state and federal industrial awards in the late 1990 s the Association became the Hotel Motel & Accommodation Association. The biggest change in the history of the Association occurred in 2005 with a consolidation of the state based network into one truly national organisation. The Accommodation Association has now taken the next step in its evolutionary journey towards a unified industry body one industry, one voice, one vision. The Association needs to consolidate and strengthen its services to members whilst maintaining a level of advocacy to all tiers of government. We cannot do this successfully on an individual basis and only have strength and a voice as a united and focused all encompassing Association. Garry Crockett, President, 2009. There s a lot more to gain than just a trophy The Accommodation Association s annual awards are all about achieving and maintaining the highest standards in the accommodation industry. They represent a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the thousands of businesses that make up our accommodation industry. The awards are different from other awards in that the Association has a better understanding of the industry Steve Gargano, General Manager, Quality Hotel Cambridge, 2010 Anyone can turn it on for a judge when you know that a judge is coming at 9am in the morning but to have a mystery shopper come through your motel, I think that s a more worthwhile indicator Joanne Jenkins, Area Hotel General Manager, Toga Hospitality, 2010 Corporate Profile 2012 7
