OBITUARY Shri Jyoti Basu, former longest serving Chief Minister in Indian history has died on 17th January 2010 at the age of 96. Shri Basu had a very cordial and affectionate relationship with DAMA. His strong support and keen interest on DAMA's all activities were well known. DAMA is grateful for his blessings over the years. He participated on invitation in various meetings of DAMA ; and inspired DAMA members by his gracious presence. He was requested officially to inaugurate the opening ceremony of DAMA's Hospital at Bidhannagar, Kolkata ; he also accepted the invitation. Unfortunately this could not materialize due to his demise. The President and members of DAMA express their deep sense of grief and sorrow at his sad departure and convey their condolences to his son, Chandan and other members of his family. Dr Tarun Biswas, a life member of DAMA passed away suddenly in the end of May 2010 at the age of 80 sustaining a heart attack. He was a bachelor and lived with his ailing younger brother Bimal, who is also a life member of DAMA. Tarun supported all activities of DAMA, and attended most of the DAMA related affairs.. He was attracted by his polite, sober and courteous behaviour, and will sadly missed by DAMA members. DAMA pays respectful homage in memory of Dr Tarun Biswas.

Our website is up and running and has several hits regularly. We are grateful to Dr Sunanda Ghosh for his contribution to build the website. Our secretary just visited Kolkata and will update about DAMA Hospital Project. The seven floors of the building is constructed with slabs hopefully we may have an opening ceremony by January 2011. and Negotiations are being held regularly with different specialities, ie Renal Medicine, Oncology, ENT, Eye and Orthopaedics. The Diagnostic facilities will be available to start with. The TECHNO-INDIA has assured us of honouring the spirit and aspirations of DAMA. Though it is taking a bit longer, I am optimistic with this partnership to see a happy fruition. I thank you all for sparing your valuable time this afternoon for this association's AGM and CONTINUED SUPPORT. DOCTORS' ASSOCIATION FOR MEDICAL AID, UK (DAMA) 99 SEVERN DRIVE, UPMINSTER, ESSEX, RM14 1QE, 01708 223032 The minutes of the Annual General Meeting of DAMA. held on Sunday 25th October 2009 at the Residence of Mr S B Tibrewal "Rosewood". 59 Elmstead Lane. Chislehurst. Kent. BR7 5 EQ.. 1. Presidium consisting of Drs S Ghatak, G Banerjee and B Chattopadhyay conducted the meeting. In total 20 members and invitees attended the AGM. 2. President of DAMA, Dr S K Ghatak gave the welcome address in the meeting. He thanked Dr and Mrs Tibrewal for hosting the meeting. He also welcomed two new Life Members Dr Girish Chandra and Dr Ranjan Adur who attended the meeting. 3. The house expressed their deep sense of grief and sorrow at the untimely death of Dr Santosh Pal on 24th September 2009. He was a Life member of DAMA since 1988. Dr B B Choudhury gave his personal condolences for Dr Pal, who worked with him for over 20 years. One minute silence wae observed in his memory. 4. The minutes of the last AGM was read by Dr G Banerjee, Vice-President of DAMA, which was discussed and after clarification was approved and adapted. 5. Dr P K Ray, Secretary of DAMA presented his printed annual report, which was distributed amongst the members present. He mentioned that there were two new enrollments for life membership making a total of eighty one life members. The secretary's report was then discussed in the meeting. Few points were raised by individual members which were clarified by the President and Secretary. After that, the Secretary's report was approved and adapted. 6. Treasurer's Report: Dr. A Kumar, Treasurer of DAMA presented the audited accounts for the year ending 31-03-2009. Few members enquired about the balance sheet of DAMA's account in India, particularly about fixed asset and current liabilities. Dr. Ray clarified the position and the report was approved and adapted.
7. Auditor: The name of Mr. Ajoy Basuroy was proposed by the Secretary, seconded by the Treasurer and he was accepted as Auditor for DAMA for the year 2009-2010. 8. No revision or amendment of the constitution was proposed in the meeting. 9. Future Programmes: Due to unavoidable circumstances DAMA's Charity Dinner Dance could not be organized for the year 2009. It was decided that this will be organized in 2010. Fund raising for minor projects was also discussed and will be organized during the year 2010. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to Dr and Mrs. Tibrewal for hosting the meeting and their hospitality.

Tel: 01708223032 Secretary's Report: 2009-2010 On behalf of the Executive Committee of DAMA, it is my pleasure to place this annual report for the year 2009-2010 for your approval. 1. Drs. Girish Chandra and Ranjan Adur have enrolled as life members of our association making a total of 81 life members. The new members are cordially welcomed. 2. Two executive committee meetings were held since the last AGM on 25 th October 2009. In addition office bearers of DAMA met several times to discuss and resolve urgent issues in connection with the hospital project. Several meetings were also held in Kolkata to discuss the progress of the DAMA Medical Centre Project, where the officials of the DAMA & Techno-India participated. The executive committee also met on 21 st March 2010 in the Harrow Exhibition Centre in London, where Mr. S. Roy Chowdhury, Director of Techno- India and Mr. A. Ghosh of Techno-India Group were also present. Mr. Roy Chowdhury gave detailed accounts of the progress of the Medical Centre Project He mentioned that the Civil Work of the building and underground water reservoir work have almost been completed. The electricity, plumbing, sanitation, fire protection and equipping the hospital were negotiated and finalised with different agencies. Mr. Roy Chowdhury also informed that Messers Godrej Limited has accepted to undertake all the internal work including installation of equipments. No objection certificates were procured for fire, pollution and hospital building from different Governmental departments and Bidhannagar Municipality. Techno-India Group has already spent 5.5 crores of Rupees towards the project. The total investment for this project will likely to be around 40 crore Rupees. The secretary of DAMA and Mr. Gautam Roy Chowdhury of Techno- India met the manager of the State Bank of Travancore who assured that the funds for the project will be available whenever the needs arises. 3. The medical staffing for the Medical Centre Project will be appointed in mutual agreement between DAMA and Techno-India Group.
4. Mrs. Monica Dasgupta has now donated 30,000.00 in memory of her late husband, Dr. Subhendu Dasgupta, which DAMA has gratefully acknowledged. The donation was earmarked for Chemotherapy unit of the Oncology Department. 5. The hoarding poster in front of the DAMA building has been removed after negotiations with the Bidhannagar Municipality. DAMA also requested the Municipality to give necessary orders for setting up an approach road directly from the Eastern By Pass to the main entrance of the hospital. We are waiting for the response from the Municipality. 6. No funds were raised this term for the minor projects due to unavoidable circumstances and we hope to do something in the near future. 7. DAMA is now positive and confident that the Medical Centre Project will be materialised and we endeavour to raise more funds for furnishing the building and buy equipments etc for our project. DAMA appeals to all its members and well wishers to come forward and extend their generous help for this noble cause. Thank you all for attending the meeting. Acknowledgements: 1.
