APRIL 2015 From the Prez. March had a little more club activity then February or January. Our 23rd or 22nd annual swap meet was a success. I was informed by Steve Jordan that there was one year where the club did not put on the swap meet. But we will still call it the 23rd. There was an increase in overall venders this year, and reports where positive on sales. The number of people coming thru the door was about the same as last year. Our expenses were a little higher than last year due to increase in rent and advertising. A big thank you to all the club members who helped out, especially committee members, Charlie Clayton, Jim Purdy, Darryl Neimi, Rod Dawson, and Paul Kallstrom. The concession stand served breakfast early this year which was much appreciated. All those I talked to had a good time and were looking to next years swap meet. Hopefully we can get someone to step up and volunteer to chair the event next year. On a sad note we lost Joe White to cancer. He was an active member and will be missed. The 50 s Cruise is on schedule according to Chairmen Burt Young, and we look forward to seeing our members participate for another fun show. Hope to see you at the next club meeting Thursday April 16th at Steve Jordans Shop. 2015 President, Fred Mestrich Club Members who need a little Sunshine The names below have been submitted by the Sunshine Committee. Our 50 s Cruise Car Show at Camp Rilea in Warrenton is fast approaching and you're help will be needed. By that, I mean, there all sorts of chores that you can help with, set-up, parking, entry gate, etc. Set-up will take place on Friday morning, April 24th at the field (the heloport) at Camp Rilea at 9:30 am. Help will be needed in laying out the parking, both spectator and show car. Signs will need to be places along the streets and at the main entrance, plus signs on the field itself. Pop-up shelters won t be erected until Saturday morning, as the wind can be a problem overnight, but on Sat. morning help will be needed to put them up before the show gets started at 9:00 a.m. If you can help on Friday, meet at Stephanie's Cabin Restaurant at 8:00 a.m. Set-up of pop-ups on Saturday morning will begin at 6:00 a.m. Please pitch in to help make this event another success. Two deep-sea fishing trips are being raffled off this year, a Salmon trip and a Tuna fishing trip. Club members are not allowed to participate in any of the show raffles, but for informational purposes, tickets will sell at $3. each or 2 for $5. Both trips were donated by Ramblin `Round With Steve Tackle Time Bait & Charter in Warrenton. Proceeds from this show, go to support local Youth Automotive education programs, both high-school and college level. Club members display their collector cars while paying show participants will vote on a Best Host Car trophy, so get your car shined up and ready to show. We ve just received word that a special attraction vehicle, the Oscar Meyer Wiener-mobile will be on display for the show, something for our younger guests to view. For the older guests, the Warrenton High School Car Club, will again be running a 50/50 Raffle and the High School Baking Club will be having a baked food sale. Now if you all come out to help,.... whether or not the weather cooperates, we ll have a great show.

Road Trip to Mopar LX Springfest By Mark and Stephanie Welsh The week of March 15 th Stephanie and I traveled to Irvine CA to attend the Mopar LX Springfest Car show. Ever since we got our car we have wanted to take it on a road trip and this was the perfect opportunity. Hosted by the Southern California Challengers Car Club (SoCal Challengers) the show only allowed cars built on the Daimler Chrysler LX platform that is a hybrid mix of both Mercedes and Chrysler design. Models built on this platform include the Dodge Challenger, Chargers, Magnums and Chrysler 300 s. There were approximately 1,078 cars that came from across North America for the show. The show generated over $12,000 that will go to several youth programs at local high schools. We traveled to Irvine with 14 other members of the PDX Mopar Car Club. We took a week for the trip and left Sunday with the intension of working our way south and spending a few days enjoying the beaches and beautiful towns in Southern California. After a stopover in Grants Pass to visit with some college friends we met up with two other members and convoyed down to Irvine. We spent Tuesday morning having the car detailed then headed down to Laguna Beach to do some exploring. Being in Southern California, we did not expect to find so many really nice and down to earth people. We had planned on more local exploring the rest of the week but we discovered that Tuesday morning the parking lot of the hotel had become it s own impromptu car show. It was completely filled with Mopar lovers, Dodge executives, and beautiful cars making it hard to leave to experience other local attractions. It was as if we were having a four-day block party leading up to the main event. The hotel even arranged for a BBQ out in front. Dodge showed up with the new hellcat and scat pack challengers and Chargers. The official show started Saturday and we were invited to cruise in with the SoCal Challenger group. Corporate Dodge had a strong presence at the show unveiling new

cars and giving the attendants rides in the Dodge Vipers and new 707hp Hellcat Challengers. It was quite the site to see hundreds of other cars similar to ours yet each with their own paint jobs, modifications, and personalization to reflect their owner s tastes. One of the highlights of the trip was getting to meet Mr. Richard Petty himself. He was signing autographs for a few hundred people, and we got his signature on our B5 Blue Richard Petty colored SRT Challenger. That alone was worth the trip! We also had our car signed by Mark Trostle, the Head of Design for SRT (Street Racing Technologies), Mopar and Motorsports FCA. Additionally we became good friends with Rab McLarnon, who is in charge of the final inspection at the Chrysler Brampton Ontario Canada production plant. The drive home was eventful for several members of our club. One member had a shredded tire piece kick up and crack her front bumper as it took off much of the paint, two other members received $595 speeding tickets going through Roseburg, another member had a tire blow out. For us, our excitement started as we passed Mt Shasta and the clutch started going out. After suffering the abuse of adding 200 HP, a season of drag racing, and a week of spirited running around with the SOCAL guys, it finally gave up the battle and started slipping. Fortunately we were able to limp home. The 16 hour drive straight home from Irvine to Lafayette on Sunday was the worst part of the trip. The clutch will be replaced soon and then we will be ready to go for the next adventure!
