Jirijirimo s Waterfall Jirijirimo s Waterfall is one of the most beautiful places on earth. A natural show where waters falls suddenly in a rocky gorge an indescribable natural performance. "Jirijirimo" is a native word that translated to English means "The bed of the anaconda". It is a sacred place for the natives, a majestic stage that inspires respect, and fill of energy everyone who achieve visiting it. Where is placed? The Jirijirimo s Waterfall is placed exactly in the Ecuator line in the Apaporis River that frame the limits between Vaupés and Amazonas in the Colombian republic. The Jirijirimos s Waterfall is near to the Barasanos, Cabiyaris, Tucanos, Cubeos, Caparanos, Bara, Macunas Taywanos, Tatuyos. That are native communities that are placed next to the Apaporis and Canarí river. How to get there? Río Cananarí / Vaupes - Colombia Travelers arrive in the Jorge E. Gonzales Airport in San josé del Guaviare to take an hour and a half fly in a DC-3 plane that take them to the PACOA town in Amazonas. There they will start a boat trip on the Canaris and Apaporis river. The trip is quiet and relaxing, in a full harmony with the nature until meet the power of the water clashing with the rocks, the Jirijirimo s Waterfall is a dream place, impossible to not luxuriate with the nature magic.
Day 1 SAN JOSÉ DEL GUAVIARE PACOA VILLA REAL We meet at the San Jose del Guaviare airport to board an hour and forty five minutes plane trip that will take us to the Pacoa community in the Amazonas region, after Arriving in the pacoa community, we will immediately board a boat will slide us in the Apaporis river in an hour and a half trip till reaching the "Villa Real" Community in the Vaupés Department. There we will eat dinner and have our first meeting with the Barasanos native culture, we will see a welcome ritual called Dabucury (traditional dance of welcoming). The visitors in this ritual get prepared espiritually to visit the sacred places of the natives. Then we will continue to the Buenos Aires Communitiy over the Cananary river. Keep in mind: *Ask for a garbage bag to deposit the inorganic wastes generated during the tour. Be sure to take it to the collection points, in the cities of San José del Guaviare. *Please follow the recommendations of the guide and be responsible to the environment. Day 2 Day 3 JIRIJIRIMO S WATERFALL Early in the morning we will wake up to see a beautiful dawn, and after breakfast we will be boarding a boat that will take us over the Cananary river to the river mouth on the Apaporis river, and it will lead us to the high part of the Jirijirimo s Waterfall. This trip lasts for 30 minutes duration. Then on ground, we will travel by the side of the Apaporis river letting us know the high and the down part of the majestic Jirijirimo s Waterfall, there we will have enough time to appreciate its greatness. We are going back in the evening hours and we can do a recreative bath in the Anaconda s waterfall, and see a natural statue with a snake shape (a sacred place for the Cabiyari natives). Lastly, then we will go back to the Buenos Aires community to take dinner and rest. ASCEND TO THE WAI REARIKU HILL In the morning hours after breakfast, we will board a boat that will take us down the Cananary river until we reach the Morroco s community in a path of approximately two hours. There we will start the ascent in the Vai reariku s hill. The ascent to reach the camp zone is approximately a 3 kilometers travel in very pronounced slopes. For this, we will need a good physical condition and an adventurous spirit. The beautiful rock formations and the sightseeing over the infinite jungle will be the worth the effort of climbing the hill. Viewpoints, tunnels, waterfalls, majestic beauty stages will be at the reach in this place with great meaning for the native culture in the amazonic region. Day 4 WAI REARIKU HILL At sunrise we will begin our ascent to the hill, and see the first sun rays aiming over the virgin jungle. At the top of the hill at 620 meters above the sea level. We will see the infinite jungle that get loss in the horizon which is decorated with rivers that flow quiet and relaxed in the plains. Then, we will visit the sacred place for the native called "the stone that fell from the sky", and listen the origin of the life in an Cabiyari mythology for the Vai Reariku s hill. After noon we will start the descent, and we will get refreshed in the "Bota pescado s waterfall. These waters fall for more than 60 meters. In the evening we will return to the Buenos Aires community to have dinner, and rest. Keep in mind: *Be sure to have your batteries charged and lots of memory capacity on your camera. You will have many opportunities for excellent, beautiful photographs. *Remember to take your full luggage, you will travel to one of the largest jungle in the country, in will be difficult to acquire the items you forget. *Be responsible with the environment, these natural spaces preserve their beauty thanks to the care of the indigenous communities. After this we will return down the Apaporis river to reach the Pacoa community, and stay there enjoying the environment around us while we will wait for the flight that will take us to San Jose del Guaviare. RECOMMENDATION Vaupés Department is conformed by varied native cultures, so the first thing you need to have is respect for their traditions and sacred places. Please carry a adventurous spirit because every experience in the Vaupes is unique and unpredictable. You must have the right shoes, preferably boots because the walks are in wet jungle and rocky roads. Use lightweight clothes that preferably covers the whole arms, and torso to avoid sun burn and skin irritation. Always use Fisher Hat in order to protect the neck, and avoid sun burns. Bring a bag to protect your belongings of wet, and easy to carry to make the walks easier. Avoid getting closer to strong water torrents, or pronounced cliffs. Security is a commitment of all. Keep close to your guide to avoid getting lost. Be sure of having the vaccine against yellow fever at least 15 days before the trip. Initially the transport is by car to San Jose del Guaviare, from there we will take a plane in a DC-3 to get to Pacoa in the Amazonic Region, the trips are by water, and walks guided by the local experts. What food can I try? The feeding in the Vaupes department is essentially ancestral food made of yuca (casabe cake, farinha), and fish. For the people that don t eat these food, some the alternatives are ( tuna, sardines, beans, tamales etc). The first place we can visit is the majestic jirijirimo s Waterfall, then we can go to the Wai Rariku s hill, where we can appreciate the immensity of the amazonic jungle at 620 meters high above the sea level, also we can visit the native communities that will let us know their dances and manners. The hot and wet weather is typical in the amazonic jungle, the temperatures ranges between the 25-30 C. it is recommended to take basic medicines (Aspirin, acetaminophen), if the tourist deems appropriate.
