International Harvester Collectors Club New England Chapter 18 Spring Edition 2018- Volume 28 My trip to Florida Mark Wells In February of this year, we made a trip to Florida. While this is a normal thing to do, it was somewhat spontaneous for us. We went to see friends and the plan was to go to Orlando, but in looking at my Red Power magazine, I noticed that Stewart Paquette s winter show was happening while we would be in Orlando. Stew s place is in Leesburg, FL which is near Orlando. I was able to talk Cheryl and our friends into going. So, my outlook on the trip was improved considerably as I would be able to see some really good IH stuff while enjoying the sunshine. Our trip was great, we got lucky with the weather, it was 80 degrees and sunny the whole time. We drove up to Leesburg, and found Stew s place (the IH combines by the road were a tipoff) and it was as good as advertised.

I am sure that most of you have seen a picture similar to the one on the left as it is used in Stew s advertising. It is my picture of his IH dealership building. It is a replica of course and not an actual former IH dealership, but it is very good. Especially the inside, it almost looks like the real thing. Inside this building, I saw this case and noticed the sticker on the glass. I have drawn a square around the Chapter # 18 sticker. Once a New Englander, always a New Englander. Stew has a very nice collection of course and he displays most of it in one building on the grounds. He has a good blend of tractors from the F-series to the end of IH tractors. I found a W-9 and noticed that it looks a lot like Kim Spaulding s tractor. As you can see, it is a very nice W-9 and the weights on the rear wheels are very similar to Kim s tractor. Stew has a tractor pulling track on his place and pulls were scheduled for two days of the show, but not the day we were there. I noticed some serious looking tractors parked near the track so I am sure there was some serious noise during those pulls. Must have been fun! There is also a large shop on the grounds and a Super WD6TA was sitting in the work area. I assume that was the next project in the works. Stew has two gold demonstrator tractors which are rare and I assume that he looks for some of the rarer tractors as he adds to his collection. A Super WD6TA is somewhat rare in its own right. I can see why he wanted that one. I did find something else I thought was unique. It was a gear drive Farmall 656. While not a rare tractor (a 656 Hydro is probably rarer) I noticed a strange feature, there was no TA lever on the tractor. I know that farmers had a reputation of being cheap and wanting to save a penny or two and therefore buy a gear drive and not a Hydro, but why would anyone want a 656 with only 5 speeds. It was a diesel model too. See for yourself:

You will notice that Stew has a reproduction IH dealer label on this tractor. They were on most of the tractors I saw. A very nice touch in my opinion. I was able to meet Stew and talk to him briefly, (he was very busy as it was his show) but not able to talk as long as I wanted. He did say that he wanted to come to the Power of the Red this year. I told him that we would look forward to that. Spring Membership Meeting We look forward to seeing you at our Spring Membership meeting and cookout on Sunday, April 8th at noon at Foskett Equipment 187 Peake Brook Road Woodstock, CT We will need two gas grills.
