Visit our web site at www.denmeadscouts.com District Weekend Camp Lyons Copse Friday May 10 th Sunday 12 th May 2013 We would like to invite your child to this camp. This is a District camp with Cubs from all the cub packs in Waterlooville attending, however Denmead cubs will be camping together. If they would like to attend please let me know no later than 17th April. See form below. Here are the details of this camp: Friday 10th May Cubs should arrive at the camp site at 6.00pm. Please see attached map. Cubs need to have eaten as we will only be providing a light supper. Sunday 12 th May. Cubs should be collected from the site at 3.00pm. Health Keith Davis (Merlin Akela) will be our designated first aider for the weekend, although all Leaders are qualified first aiders. Please complete the attached health information form and hand it to either Keith or me on arrival. Your child will not be able to camp without it. It is important that you advise us of any allergies or special health or dietary requirements beforehand. EG. Bed wetting, vegetarian, allergy to nuts, plasters etc. If your child is taking any form of medication, please mark it clearly with their name and dosage instructions and pass to Keith. Please also ensure that we have a contact number if you are not at home during the camp eg mobile ~ or where you are staying. Cubs should arrive at the site wearing uniform (cub jumper or Denmead tee-shirt & scarf) Hints for new campers: Make sure your child helps to pack their bag so that they knows what is in it. The stuff bag for the sleeping bag is not waterproof so it must be packed inside one of the sports bags. When we are camping there is not always somewhere for the bags to go that is dry on arrival. Be aware that cubs have to keep their tent tidy all gear must be packed away during the day including sleeping bags etc. so it all needs to be easy to do practice at home. Don t over pack, cubs rarely use all the clothes parents send. Also please ensure that your child has everything on the list please don t assume because the weather has been nice recently that he will not need a coat or wellies! Please make sure that all scout uniform items are named, including the scarf. Denmead Scout Tee-shirts are available from the HQ. Ask a leader. All sizes 5 Please do not send supplies of food cubs are not allowed food in their tents as it encourages wildlife! Your child will not be hungry we have a cooked breakfast, a large lunch and a filling dinner daily. Plus elevenses, afternoon tea and supper. We also serve bread & butter with all meals. In fact, we seem to spend most of our time eating! We do ask all cubs to try a small portion of everything we cook quite often they find that they like it, even if they thought they didn t! All of the leaders on our camps have attended Scout training for camping and are very experienced. We have been camping with cubs for at least 20 years.
If you have any questions or concerns please give me a call. Angela Harwood 02392 252110 07801 652198 e-mail: al_ange@btinternet.com Kit list Everything should be clearly marked with the owner's name and packed in two bags. Sports bags are ideal. Please make sure that everything fits in easily as cubs are not as good at stuffing as adults! NO suitcase, plastic bin bags or carrier bags please. Sleeping bag & a blanket (a small pillow or cushion if required.) packed in one of the bags. (no bin liners please) A stuff type sleeping bag is easier for the cubs to manage this will still need to be in a sports bag as it will not be waterproof in just the stuff bag. Roll mat (optional). Trousers & shorts. The uniform combats are ideal + another pair in case they get wet or really muddy. Preferably not jeans as they don t dry easily. T-shirts & jumper no football shirts please. Hiking boots or wellies. The grass gets very wet early mornings & evenings even in dry weather. It s a good idea to arrive in these. Please check that the willies still fir them (I know! But this is from experience!) Trainers Underwear (pants, socks) Waterproof coat (not just showerproof - we don't stay in if it rains!) And a warm coat or fleece if the waterproof is thin. Pyjamas Washing gear & towel. Toothbrush & paste. All in a bag (drawstring preferably, or a bag that can be hung up.) Face wipes are a great idea as most cubs don t know what to do with a flannel! Tea towel preferably an old one that you won t want back they get very grubby! Torch with fresh batteries! Hat sun or woolly depending on weather & gloves if it looks like it may be cold Optional Teddy etc. (my daughter is a leader now and still takes her teddy everywhere!) Paper & pencils, book to read, camera. Ipods, mobile phones, DSLite etc. are not allowed. NO penknives - Cubs are not allowed to carry these. Cubs will not need any money.
