Message from the President By Debbie Melgar, Cumberland Cove POA President The Welcome Center meeting room was closed to all activities starting June 13th for the renovations. The improvements include painting the ceiling, installing new LED light fixtures with dimming switches, fans, and acoustic panels that match the ceiling paint color. The meeting room will reopen when the renovations are complete. The office is open. The Building Committee is looking at options to replace the BBQ shed that was at the Welcome Center. Those possibilities include building a new BBQ shed or adding on to the back patio. When they come up with their plans, they will be presented to the Board. On May, 25th, the Board held a special meeting to vote on a resolution to address the Wild Hog issue. The resolution was passed and is available on the CCPOA website. Al Singleton and Harris Vandergriff were appointed to develop a procedure for the homeowners and to oversee the requests. Al, Harris and myself met with the USDA Wildlife Officers that handle the Wild Hogs in this area for guidance on the procedures and how they would like to handle the requests. They told us that since October they have eliminated over 1100 hogs in four counties, including Cumberland and Putnam counties. Out of that number, over 200 of the hogs were found on the adjacent properties to Cumberland Cove. The park hang tags are now available. Each owner wanting a hang tag needs to stop by the Welcome Center and sign for it. Thank you to the Activities Committee for the wonderful Father s Day Breakfast. As always, the food was delicious. Don't forget to sign up for the July 4th picnic at the Welcome Center. Election News By John Logsdon, Chairman, Election Committee This years election season is about to kick off. The Board of Directors has four seats opening up for the upcoming term. The following dates for the key election activities were approved by the Board during their latest meeting: Page 2 of 18

June 29: Applications Forms are made available. July 31: Deadline for applications to be returned. August 9: Meet the Candidate s forum (6:00-8:00 PM). August 22: Volunteers stuff and mail envelopes. September 29: Deadline for receipt of returned ballots. October 1: Volunteers collect and count ballots. Election results are certified. Candidates and BOD are notified. October 9: Newly elected Board members installed. Members should review the Covenants and By-Laws detailing the BOD qualification requirements prior to submitting and application. Volunteers will be needed to support both the August 22 nd ballot envelope stuffing activity and the October 1 st counting activity. Look for the signup sheet at the Welcome Center or let the office staff / front desk know you are interested in supporting the event. Additional information on these activities will be provided prior to the events. Red Hats Red Hats luncheon for July 11th will be at Seven Senses Food and Cheer in Cookeville. Hostess for the day is Debbie Melgar. Book Club The Cumberland Cove Book Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 10:00 am at the Welcome Center. The book for July is The Stranger in the Woods by Michael Finkel. One hundred-thirteen Covites gathered on May 28 to celebrate Memorial Day. The event started with a Memorial Day Tribute led by Elton Warren, and then fried chicken was served along with potluck sides. We had several newcomers join us Welcome to the Cove! The Father s Day picnic-style breakfast was held on June 16 on the back patio. Approximately 30 attendees enjoyed sausage gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit. Our next event will be a 4th of July picnic. Please watch Facebook Cumberland Cove Bulletin Board and listen for your all-calls for information. The next Activities Committee meeting will be held July 19th at the Welcome Center at 10:00 am. All are invited to attend. Dining Out Bunch The Dining Out Bunch meets the third week of every month. The restaurant choice, day of week and time are chosen by the host and/or hostess for that particular month. Everyone is welcome! It can be lunch, a late lunch or dinner. The decision is made by the host based on restaurant capability. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for this function, please email Martha and Tim Schmidt at Schmidt-t@hotmail.com. Our Dining Out for July will be hosted by Dorothy Jones and Maria Lugo. We hope you can join us at the Golden Coral in Cookeville, TN. Cumberland Cove Art Society The Cumberland Cove Art Society meetings will be scheduled on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6-9pm starting in July. 6/30/18, 10)41 AM Firewise Committee News by Jon Brasseur, Firewise Committee Co-chair The Firewise Committee returned the 300-gallon portable water-tender trailer to service. It was once used for watering the front entrances prior to water lines being installed.this water-tender trailer, along with the Forestry donated pick-up truck which holds the wildfire responders' equipment, will be used as a response unit for wild land fires and other catastrophic emergencies within the cove to aid the area Fire Departments that respond here. Remember to first call 911 in the event of an emergency, then notify Cumberland Cove Security. On June 18th, members of the Firewise Committee met with Forestry officials and the Putnam County Fire Department to discuss our progress and concerns. The Forestry Department also donated four new metal Firewisesigns to Cumberland Cove so every entrance off HWY 70N will have a Firewise community sign. Installation was completed on June 19th. If Cove residents plan to burn yard debris, please notify the Firewise Committee at cumberlandcovefirewise@gmail.com or call us, and we'll loan you a five-gallon portable water back pack. Cove residents completing any landscaping, burning, or clearing around your home, driveway, etc., please fill out one of the Firewise volunteer time sheets. The sheets are located on the Cove website's front page and at the Welcome Center during normal business hours. Drop them off at the Welcome Center when completed. These time sheets help the Cove maintain Firewise status and help us qualify for grants, thus saving the Cove money. So far it has been a quiet month. Let's hope it stays that way. FOCCAS Update June 2018 By Dr.Mark Hendrixson, VP FOCCAS The summer soltice is upon us, so it's downhill from here. Our 3rd annual Bark Whine & Dine fundraiser, our biggest of the year, is coming up in a few weeks. We have reserved the Cumberland County Community Complex for the evening of Saturday, July 7th. The doors open at 5:30pm. There will be heavy hors-de-vours and a very nice silent auction. Entertainment will be provided by Joe West a singer-songerwriter from Nashville joining us for an encore performance. He was our entertainment last year and everybody loved him. One of the best things that is different this year, is that our venue is air-conditioned. Anyone who came last year will surely appreciate this improvement. The proceeds will help us complete the shelter building. Tickets are only $25 and are available on our website at FOCCAS-TN.org, at Best Friends Vet Hospital, Happy Hound Realty or at my office 707 S. Main St, Crossville, just below the Cumberland Medical Center. We really hope to see you there. The members of FOCCAS have been chomping at the bit to see some tangible progress on our shelter building, and we finally have. The weather broke and we got the concrete slab finished. I've included a recent picture below. The block mason, like everyone else in construction, is overly busy, Page 10 of 18

but he promised to get started Monday, June 25th. He says it will take 3-4 weeks to complete his part of the project. When he does, it will look much more like a building when he is done. Notices Safety & Security The Putnam County Sheriff s Office does vacation home checks for Putnam residents. You need to go to their website: http://p2c.countywide.us/p2cpcso/ and click on the heading Security Watch. It gives you a form to fill out and file with the SO. The watch is not automatic, but has to be reviewed and approved by them. If approved they will notify you by email. In Cumberland County you call their main number (931) 484-6176 and ask for dispatch. You give them your information and they enter it into their Extra Patrol Log. Notice for Home and Property Owners As a reminder, it is very important if you are selling, buying or moving that you contact the Cumberland Cove Welcome Center 931-839-2926 to provide ownership or address changes. Without your current address information, all correspondence such as annual statements will be sent to the address we have on file. This may cause a delay in receiving your statement for your annual dues. We also keep our Cove phone book updated with this information. We do not know when you move or new ownership takes place, unless you notify us. PLEASE do not rely on Realtors, Attorneys, or Title Offices the pass this information on. We have Welcome Packets for new property/home owners, with useful information in them. So if you are new to Cumberland Cove, please stop by the Welcome Center Monday Friday between 9:00 and 1:00 to receive your welcome packet. Parking Violations RVs, boats, utility trailers, and other equipment According to the Cumberland Cove Covenants 9.4 Parking No truck exceeding one-ton capacity shall be parked, within the Subject Properties overnight, unless the truck is being used in connection with the construction of a new residential dwelling unit. All other vehicles (except automobiles, SUV s, and small trucks) or equipment must be parked in a garage or hidden from view by neighbors or from the street. Any vehicle parked on a Subject Property must not be a nuisance and must conform to the communities standards for sight, sound, and smell. For further clarification, please see Appendix G in the Environmental Control Committee (ECC) Red Book. Page 12 of 18

The ECC respectfully request that all residents with vehicles and equipment parked on their property take the initiative to insure compliance with this covenant requirement. Please understand that tarpaulins, canvas or plastic RV covers and partial privacy screening do not satisfy this restriction. For advice on compliance solutions, please contact the ECC Chairman, Elton Warren, through the Welcome Center, (931) 839-2926..." Use of Cove Assets and Equipment Cove Assets and equipment are for official Cove use only. Chain saws, weed eaters, the tractor, the truck, and any equipment used by committees are for their official use only. Individuals may NOT borrow the equipment for personal use. Equipment at the POA office including chairs and tables can only be used on premises...they cannot be loaned for off-site use, per the current WC Usage Agreement. The Chipper use is administered by Firewise, and is available for use by those who have taken the required training. Burning in the Cove From October 15 to May 15 it is required by law that citizens obtain a burning permit. For a leaf or brush pile less than 8 feet by 8 feet, log onto www.burnsafetn.org for approval and to receive a burn permit. For a larger burn, call your local Division of Forestry burn permit number: For Putnam County it is 931-839-2328; for Cumberland County it is 931-484- 4548. The person burning is legally responsible for any fires that burn another person's property, so it's better to be safe then sorry. We encourage anyone that is going to burn outdoors to borrow one of our water backpack extinguishers. They are very easy to use and they are very effective on small fires before they become large, out of control fires. The cove Firewise committee has several of these water backpack extinguishers and fire rakes at the maintenance shed for loan out to cove residents. Should there be no one available from the Firewise Committee, contact security (931-252-1443) and they can provide the water backpack extinguisher. Page 13 of 18

Initially box tops were only found on select general mills products. The program was such a huge success that it was expanded to include many other products. Box tops can now be found on 100 s of products. Some of the products are cereal, kleenex, green giant and pillsbury just to name a few. A complete list can be found on the Website for Box Tops for Education. Today, America s schools have earned over $719 million. I collect the box tops for Burks Elementary School. Anyone who would like to help me collect Box Tops can leave them at the Welcome Center in the plastic box labeled Box Tops for Education.
