USIC New Vehicles Help Town of Mount Pleasant Operations In January, the Town of Mount Pleasant Highway Department took delivery of two new trucks equipped for snow and ice control operations. Manufactured by Freightliner with four wheel drive, the chassis were purchased off the Westchester County Contract. The V body spreaders utilize two independent augers to move material to the dispersing chute which also has the ability to dispense de-icing liquid from two 80 gallon storage tanks housed within the framing of the V body. The dump bodies, Swensen spreader bodies and Wausau multi-direction plow were installed by Trius of Bohemia, New York. The cost of the two trucks was approximately $360,000.

The Long Island Branch which includes Nassau and Suffolk Counties meets 9 times a year for lunch and the Southeast New York Branch which includes Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Sullivan, Orange and Ulster Counties meets 4 times per year for lunch. These lunch meetings, in addition to the Association s routine business, provides an opportunity to network with other public works managers as well as private sector vendors and consultants. Helping Build our Profession On April 27, 2016, members of the Southeastern New York Branch of the New York Metropolitan Chapter, American Public Works Association and the Westchester County Association of Municipal Public Works Administrators visited Westchester Community College to mentor students studying in the field of engineering. Town of Mount Pleasant Highway Department Participates in 12 th Annual Go the Distance Walk and Family Fun Day On Sunday May 1 st, Superintendent of Highways Peter Sciliano and his staff paraded two pieces of Heavy Equipment in the walk and fund raiser for Maria Fareri Children s Hospital at the Westchester Medical Center. The casual one mile walk included family activities and draws thousands of supporters from the Hudson Valley and Fairfield, Connecticut.

Chapter Members Take Advantage of Local APWA Leadership Training In conjunction with the Chapter Executive Board meeting of April 15, 2016, National Director of Chapter Relations Brian Van Norman provided those present with an abbreviated version of APWA s Leadership Training Program. Attendees were provided with information handouts and a copy of the presentation highlights. Brian also took time to review the latest happenings at APWA including the recent main office move and the selection of the new Executive Director. Thanks to Chapter Vice President Tom McAleer from the Village of Valley Stream for making the arrangements. New Jersey Chapter Equipment and Services Exposition Members of the New York Metro Chapter took time from there busy schedules to visit our brethren from the New Jersey Chapter at their annual Equipment and Services Exposition at the Raritan Convention Center in Edison, New Jersey on April 20, 2016. The Expo featured some 81 vendors with close to 500 public works professionals and staff attending. In addition to the exhibits, two opportunities to gain CPWM CEU/PDH credits at no extra cost were included; Maintaining Drainage Structures Including Culverts and Storm Drains and Public Works Workplace and Worker Safety. The Expo was free of charge for individuals pre-registering and lunch was served. Executive Board members Stephen Munno, Jim Maxwell, Peter Sciliano and Jon Reed met with New Jersey Chapter President Dan Carey to discuss how our Chapters could work together to better service to our members. National Public Works Week National Public Works Week provided an opportunity for municipalities to recognize the contributions of their Public Works and other infrastructure related departments. During National Public Works Week, Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi and the Cortlandt Town Board recognized the employees of the Department of Environmental Services at their May 17 th Town Board meeting. Chapter Members Receive Appointments to National Committees Two Chapter members have accepted appointments to national committees. James Maxwell, CSM, PWLF will serve as the Certified Stormwater Manager Representative on the newly formed APWA Certification Council. The council governs and oversees the delivery of APWA s certification programs and is responsible for establishing overall policies that will govern all APWA certifications, as well as having oversight of all of the APWA certification programs. The council works with task forces to update the content outlines, exam questions and conduct outreach efforts. Louis Martirano serves on the Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector Council. He was appointed August 2015 and will serve till August 2017.

Chapter Members Attend North American Snow Conference This year s North American Snow Conference was held in Hartford, Connecticut. Highway Superintendent James Dean and the Town of Orangetown Highway Department received one of three Snow and Ice Control Awards presented by the American Public Works Association.
