SMALL GROUP #1 - September 29, 2011 Webber Park Master Plan Charrette Summary More trash cans, especially near picnic grounds A year round pool is very needed-physical & mental health are significantly improved when people swim Swimming in winter! Buffer between recycling center & park Tall trees maybe Indoor skate park Repave trail (under RR bridge) Better rose garden (by falls) Fix the curb/sidewalk/gutter (along Webber Parkway) Patio on side of library Expand pool area Permanent warming house (ice skating) Reroute trail (on west side of pool) Better trails Pool house/warming house in one Love to skate Hockey rink and open skating More lights on trails Pavilion/warming house More lights Buffer between the street and sidewalk Lights on the field Lights on trails Great tennis court Update/expand/modernize park building Hybrid between swim/dive and sand bottom? A little of this would be nice (splash pads) around a traditional pool Dome the pool for winter? Year round kids/people need to swim all year! Not just in the summer. Natural filtration year round indoor pool with Webber Pond used for aesthetics and winter skating. People (elderly and young and everyone) need to swim all year long i. Pool half swim-dive/sand bottom ii. Mobility around the park (trails & sidewalks) *smooth for skate 1

iii. Safety = lighting iv. Improving all of our water features v. Some structure for gathering, that also doubles as a warming house/bathrooms vi. Improve ice quality for winter--veg. around pool Fields--To build those athletes to feed into the high school programs. Need Little League, soccer, football, basketball Amphitheater--For music! For arts & craft shows! Car show! Other gatherings Pavilion skating pond, doubles + bathrooms plus warming house, more central picnic area Trails less roundabout routes Lighting lighting increases visibility, very important! Pet/waste management picnicker food waste is my enemy!! Bad for dogs! Water and natural resources improve the Camden water quality Other items indoor skate park, love the falls! Keep that area on the trail. SMALL GROUP #2 - September 29, 2011 Too loud!! (by recycling plant) Lights everywhere Biking/walking sidewalk People running stoplight Traffic calming Close one leg of intersection at 45 th Children s play areas too far from parking lots and on street parking Indoor skate park and dance studio More parking Crosswalk Like the lap swim Swim lessons Swimming lessons I like both swim/dive and sand bottom. Park needs a traditional swim program facility. Maybe make wading pool area sand bottom? How do you close this at closing time? (sand bottom) I vote natural, but what about winter kill back and bringing wetland every year Trees This would attract many people to North Minneapolis 2

i. Shingle Creek views ii. Picnic area iii. Lighting/amphitheater iv. Pavilion/trails/curb, gutter, sidewalk v. Visibility/emergency phones vi. Shingle Creek realignment Other items playgrounds closer to parking, More trash containers, More grills, More picnic tables SMALL GROUP #3 - September 29, 2011 Wading at three rivers no Mississippi park & Victory park Lap swimmers dream of outdoor swimming in our short summer Would like natural treatment if possible/conventional treatment good i. Water and natural resources ii. Community spaces picnic grounds iii. Trails: bike/walk trails iv. Find a new location for the library soon Picnic areas save a historic WPA picnic table Other items signage from Webber Park to Camden bridge is really poor, do we really need a fishing dock on our little lake? SMALL GROUP #4 - September 29, 2011 Better lights, especially at fields Center median wide enough to support vegetation or narrow road and bays for parking & boulevard & ped paths on both sides Bench for bus (on Lyndale) More gateway to park (on Lyndale and on 45th) Gateway needed ugly Keep pool Need year round warming house We have a lot of wildlife left keep the natural vegetation that provides habitat Likes ice rink on pond Pond back to original configuration Move library to park service building 3

How about pool here? (at ballfield) Pick up soccer & pick up baseball Too small (park building) Keep tennis courts Move basketball closer to roadway Keep rec center with community meeting rooms Good walk through Overpass? Splash pad near playground Picks up trash every time she comes to park It starts here commitment to peace Landscape open it up Establish destination or get rid of bridge or add 2 nd bridge Recycling center is an incongruent land use CPED bought this used to be picnic People don t go under (at 45 th ) Heavily traveled (45 th ) Need more unstructured field space Some people feel unsafe here (under bridges) No lighting under bridge Bikes and rollerblades shortcut downhill to ped path Amphitheater? Play volleyball and (??) here Bring back the falls Like library in park Pool building & warming house Don t like fence at this (sand bottom) Kids & swim lessons & diving Lap swim adults If combined to treat pond and pool. Concerned about space How do we do this with a hard sided pool? i. None listed c. Comments Pavilion picnic areas in relation to pavilion, combined winter/summer use pool/skating Fields like we have now Trails separate bike & ped use Additional connections also includes making frontage a parkway with boulevards and parking bays Other items Webber Parkway improvements not view of parking lots, flowers and shrubs, parking improvements, hockey skating rink 4

SMALL GROUP #5 - September 29, 2011 Tennis courts stay This play area stays (by rec building) More parking Splash pad? Needs to be free Restore creek and add habitat Cisterns Prairie or picnic By pass channels Runoff treatment Fish ladder Very steep trails Give us the library we were supposed to have Parking bump outs with rain gardens More lighting Warm water (in pool) Zero depth pool Native plants Picnic Gardens Is this available for over flow parking or more picnic (north of RR on 45 th ) i. Rain gardens water quality ii. Lighting in park and along trail under bridges iii. Pavilion & Picnicking and creek realignment Pavilion to take place of library Picnic areas shelter, table, grills Other items--need some free space in water for kids SMALL GROUP #6 - September 29, 2011 Block waste plant Trees Keep pool Hockey rink off lake for safety reasons Connect rink to rec building Wildflowers along creek 5

Skater access try a dock like access to get over the border of the lake if putting skating on the lake and remove in summer i. Safety ii. Trails iii. Visibility iv. Ice rink v. Shingle Creek realignment vi. Fishing dock Pavilion to take place of library Picnic areas shelter, table, grills Other items ice rink, path along creek, basketball courts, more benches to sit, more trash cans, restrooms or porta-pottys PREFERENCE SUMMARY Aquatic Facility Preference Splash Pad Wading Swim/Dive Sand Bottom Hybrid Table 1 4 3 Table 2 4 2 1 Table 3 2 Table 4 2 2 1 Table 5 3 3 Table 6 4 1 Total 0 2 19 10 1 Treatment Options Natural Treatment Conventional Treatment Table 1 7 Table 2 4 2 Table 3 2 1 Table 4 3 3 Table 5 1 5 Table 6 3 2 Total 20 13 6
