April 1st was the Boys and Girls Club car show, the Southern Knights Corvette show, and our monthly meeting that evening. As a return favor for Stuart Dubin and his club, I along with Randy Harner, the Ponders, and Mark Winderweedle came out to the Riverwalk in Bossier City to judge their show. We ended up with the classic Vettes up through the 80s, and had a nice time checking out the old cars. Randy got some hands on judging a show, and seemed to have a good time along with us. We had about 17 cars to judge, but things went smoothly enough to be done by 1:30, so Mark and I decided to go to Hooters and get some lunch. A nice end to the day. Thanks to all that came out to help me judge. This help will secure judges from the Corvette club for our show in September. The second Saturday was the second Marshall cruise in. Mark Winderweedle and I met up at the welcome center and left at 2pm to cruise to Marshall. We were able to get spots close together just down from the antique store where sign up usually is on the shady side of the street. It was a nice day not too hot, and so by 5pm, all 4 blocks from East Washington to the Square downtown were full of cars. After a nice Catfish Dinner at Davis Grill, I decided to head out just before sundown so I wouldn't freeze on the ride home with the top down. The 4th Saturday was the Advance Auto parts Mustang show and shine we put on at the Advance store on Kings Hwy. It was a dreary day, wet and misty with occasional light rain most of the morning. I started out at the VFW Post at 8:30 for breakfast and giant homemade Cinnamon Rolls with Donna Arends, the Hughes, and the Ponders. After breakfast, we cruised to Advance Auto and met up with some of the Stang Life guys. We ended up with a total of 11 cars. Not bad for a crappy day. The store managers handed out door prizes, had trophy s for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and best of show. They even had a few door prizes and some food and drinks for us for lunch. I am hearing we may have gotten a Full Sponsor out of the show. If that happens, we will definitely have to do a show and shine for them on a better day. Finally, the 5th Saturday was our club Picnic at Lake Bistineau State Park. It Red River Classic Mustang Club P.O. Box 37724 Shreveport, LA 71133

The Pony Express Page 3 F R O M THE P R E S I D E N T S D E S K... C O N T I N U E D was touch and go there for a while with the weather threat, we considered canceling the date. But by Thursday evening, the 3 weather apps on our smart phone agreed that the rain and storms should hold off till late in the afternoon, so we met at the Brookshires in Haughton and cruised to the Park. Last year, we all had to pay an entry fee to get in, but thanks to Mark Winderweedle, he covered it for us all being a small amount, rather than us all parking, blocking traffic to go into the gate house and pay our entry fee. This year, no one was at the gate to collect our entry fee, so other than the rental fee for the pavilion, no other fees were paid. We were able to cook the meat, play a little horseshoes and Corn hole before thunder started rumbling about 1:00. We quickly got a group picture, everyone finished up their lunch, and we packed up and were out of there by 1:30. I had Erin and a friend of hers with me in the convertible, and they insisted we drive with the top down. We managed to get all the way to Youree Drive and the LSUS entrance before the bottom fell out and we had to pull over and quickly put up the top. Once again, the threat of bad weather didn't keep people away. We had about 25 people show up, and not a whole lot of meat was left over. I think we need to do this again in the fall, after our show in September. It was a short trip, but we all had a good time. Thirty members, family and friends cruised to the Lake Bistineau State Park for a picnic on April 29, 2017. Although the rain threatened all day we managed to cook hamburgers and hotdogs and get everyone fed without getting wet. The overcast skies kept the temperatures down and made for an enjoyable day to just hang out and visit. Thank you to those that attended, hopefully we have more next time.
