All about visits in Geneva Subject Specific Visits All suggested visits on our programmes are provided with the co operation of the companies concerned and are subject to availability. In order to maintain a good relationship with our suppliers, we are unable to book visits prior to receiving a firm booking form. Due to the popularity of certain visits, we advise you to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. In the unlikely event of a visit cancellation, we will do our utmost to replace it suitably. Industrial visits are not available at weekends. Unless specifically agreed by us the teacher has responsibility for teaching. Study Visit Fees We charge a fee for arranging technical visits (e.g. breweries, factories, wine producers, stock exchange, company visits, food production). The fee: is available on request, and includes a guide and coach where required and are charged per paying person per visit. Please note that entrance costs, if applicable, are not included these are payable locally On all visits where a study visit fee is applicable, it will be shown on this list with this symbol: Entrance Fees Unless you are informed otherwise, entrance fees are always payable locally for all visits. For student rate entrance to museums in Geneva, it is essential that you bring along with you a letter printed on your school s headed paper, confirming your status as teachers and students. This letter should include a list of all students and teachers names and dates of birth. It can also facilitate entrance for the students if you have a list of names with the name of the course they are studying. 2

Druation: 1h30 09h00, 15h00 & 17h00 Television Suisse Romande www.tsr.ch Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) is based in Geneva but has regional sites in Lausanne, Zurich, Sion, Fribourg, Moutier, Neuchâtel as well as at the Swiss Federal Parliament building in Berne. TSR is aimed at all french speaking Swiss. A tour includes a visit to many areas of the station including where programmes are filmed, make up and hair studios and set design workshops. The OPI promote firms, search for business partners and sub contractors, researches technologies, sustains development, and raising awareness of the firms in an information centre and at trade fairs. 08h00 12h00 14h00 17h00 Jaeger & Bosshard SA recycling industry www.jaeger bosshard.ch Since 1942 this company has recovered, seperated, treated and conveyed metals, and used materials for intelligent recycling. Duration : 45 Minutes 09h00 11h00 Aeroport International de Geneve www.gva.ch With nearly 8 Million passengers a year, Geneva is a prominent world airport. This visit includes a video presentation of the airports activities, a bus tour out on the tarmac where to can see the air traffic and all that goes after a landing, and finally a visit to the security barracks and fire/accident service. You will need an English speaking guide with this visit. Druation: 1h30 At 14h00 Geneva s Public Transport System www.tpg.ch There are two places you can visit. Firstly visit the Head Office at Bachet where there will be a presentation of the company and a tour of the workshop and maintenance service. SCIENCE CERN European Organisation for Nuclear Research www.cern.ch Tours of the centre last half a day and can be themed to include any of the following topics: Accelerating Particles, Discovering Antimatter and Information Technology, Calculations and Communication. This can be followed by a visit to the Microcosm exhibition or the exhibiton in the Globe of Science and Innovation. Note visitors will need valid passports Free admission, reservation necessary. Please note that Group Leaders must book direct with CERN 1/2 day visits Open Daily History of Science Museum www.ville ge.ch/culture/mhs/ The History of Science Museum is the only one of its kind in Switzerland. It is also an excellent display case for the city s scientific past, which was particularly outstanding in the 18th century. The collections are composed of numerous old scientific instruments (microscopes, barometers, sundials, astrolabes, etc.), and books and documents bequeathed by the families of Geneva s scientists and scholars. Free admission Closed Tuesdays 10h00 17h00 Water Filter Station Le Prieure Geneva has been able to cover its water resources since the 18 th century by the Lake. As time had passed however, the quality of the water was deteriorating, and so the decision was made to construct a filter plant, which led to the opening in 1959 of Le Prieure. Since then then water has much improved and in 1986 a treatment chain was installed to maintain the quality. SCIENCE Cheneviers: Urban Waste Incineration Plant www.cheneviers.ch Not so long ago, waste incineration plants were regarded as major sources of pollution. You will also be informed about the work of the United Nations and the history of the Palais des Nations, formerly headquarters of the League of Nations. We can pre book this tour for you, but it must be paid on arrival. There are displays giving general information on the dairy and the cellars. There is also a film showing the various production stages of Le Gruyère AOC. This visit requires a coach transfer. Dealing with milk production, cheese production and meat product distribution, it is one of the leading groups in Farm Produce in French speaking Switzerland, with around 800 members and milk producers. PLACES OF GENERAL INTEREST Jet d Eau www.geneve tourisme.ch Originally a simple security valve at the Coulouvrenière hydraulic factory, the massive Jet dʹeau fountain has grown to become a symbol of Geneva. In the summer months, eight 13,500 watt projectors light the fountainʹs majestic 140 metre column in the evening as it soars skywards.
