Featuring new settings of Skipsey s poems by great great grandson Chris Harrison, including his famous Hartley Calamity Ballad. Readings from Still the Sea Rolls On the recent Hartley Commemorative book and by poet Keith Armstrong of his own Hartley poem, selected Skipsey poems and a new poem on Edward Eliot of Earsdon, local poet and stone mason for Hartley Memorial. Music from folk duo The Sawdust Jacks and invited guest Ann Sessoms on Northumbrian Pipes. The lighthouse is fully operational and owned by the Port of Tyne. Come for a special guided tour. Allow 20 30 minutes to reach the lighthouse prior to the tour commencing. Appropriate footwear required (no high heels). No children under 10 years old. On Saturday there will be a warden guided tour of St Mary s Lighthouse detailing the history and operation of the lighthouse and the lives of lighthouse keepers; and a warden-led tour round St Mary s Island and the neighbouring headland highlighting the details and history of the numerous shipwrecks in the area.
