President s Message: Hi Fun Seekers ( and you know who you are), The Ides of March are now coming to a close and as the warm weather sets in it s time to start thinking about all the great events and activities that we have in store for all of our members in NSCM. Keep in mind that there is always something for everyone when we design these events but know that we are only as successful as your participation allows. So sign up to reserve your spot so you won t be left out to enjoy and get in on all the FUN!! The March meeting was great with almost 50 members in attendance. We are doing our best to move through the agenda items quickly and efficiently to allow enough time to socialize and catch up with our fellow members. I saw a few faces I hadn t seen in a long time as well as some new ones. All were smile'n which is a good thing. So all this tells me that everyone is really jacked up about this club. Members (and you know who you are) telling me that they couldn t believe all the stuff we had planned. After Dickie, Jim B., Tony and I got done with them by just mentioning all the events until June or so, I couldn t even believe it. What a rush! It seems like C-6's and C 7's are fly'n off the shelves these days. So if you have just bought one recently and want to show it off to your buddies at NSCM along with your pearly whites, then snap a pic and get it in to Scoop ASAP so it makes it into our May newsletter. Also, don't forget any favorite yummy recipes that you may want to share with your fellow members. I m happy to see that there will be some good club representation for our cruise to Carlisle, Lake George, Fuzzy Dice, Back to the Beach, Bar Harbor, Spring Gala, Blessing of the Vettes and the Dust Off Cruise. There will be a blast to the membership as well as more info in the Newsletter. Make sure that keep an eye on our website BEFORE you start out on an activity so you can stay abreast of any changes etc. We don't want you to wind up in Bourne ("where in the hell is Bourne?") while we are all up in Maine someplace (Ya can't get there from "eyhere" ) saving you a parking spot. Again, not too early to start thinking about stepping up for your club and trying your hand at an E- Board position starting January, 2019. All positions are open and available. Let's keep this club alive and kick'n for future generations of Corvette enthusiasts!!! Okay folks, that s about it for now but remember, we re all so lucky each and every day. And one other thing, remember gasoline and alcohol don't mix, drink one or the other. Okay? Keep wearing those name tags now and always remember to Save the Wave!!! Happy Easter and Passover to all!! Your Prez, Greg

Monthly Membership Meeting Notes: Monthly Membership Meetings for March 29, 2018 After the members had enjoyed the pizza, salad and coffee, and the different pastries brought by the members for desert, at 7:12 PM, President Egavian called the March meeting of NSCM, being held at the Wakefield Elks, to order. He thanked and welcomed all the members that were able to attend and asked them to rise and recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag with him. He then asked if any new members were present. None were attending. Next he asked for the Eboard and NCM Ambassador reports. Treasurer, Jim Burns, read his report and it was accepted. Joe Generazzo, Membership, reported,148 paid members compared to 160 last year. There were two new members since last month. VP, Tony Liburdi, had nothing to report at this time. Cruise Night Director, Rich Dickie Cialone, said he was waiting for the snow to melt..ncm Ambassador, Karen Blandini, said that she missed the last two meetings because she has been enjoying the snow skiing. They are actually things you can do with this white stuff. Never knew that? Karen reported; The next exciting exhibit at the NCM is planned for June of this year. It will highlight the study of Chevrolet racing history-from Louis Chevrolet driving the Buick 60 Special through the AMA ban on racing to NASCAR involvement to Lemans wins. There will be artifacts, story boards and actual historic racing cars on display. The exhibit will open on June 16th in conjunction of the Lemans viewing party and should run for approximately 7 months. The following three race cars are confirmed as part of the exhibit with more to be confirmed: 1910 Buick 60 Special Bug Racer looking like a full size soap box car it clocked over 105 mph -that was in 1907-over 100 years ago! Next; 1957 Chevrolet Black Widow. A 283/250hp with a fuel injected system designed under the supervision of Zora Arkus- Duntov. Only twelve vehicles were ever produced. Next 1964 Cheetah Daytona, that was built to compete with the Shelby Cobra and with covert support from the GM Performance Group, they developed the car as a concept vehicle with a 327 engine and Muncie transmission. The Cheetah Daytona was used in the Elvis Presley movie Spin Out. No one really knows how many of these cars were built but it is estimated about 23 were made in varying degrees of completeness and configuration. As mentioned previously, Rick Hendricks was the winning bidder of the first retail 2019 ZR1 Corvette. The winning bid was $925,000.- with proceeds going to his veterans charity. On March 14th Rick visited the Corvette Assembly Plant to see the car ceremoniously roll off the assembly line and to start the car. He then visited the NCM for lunch and photos. Afterwards he took some laps around the Motorsports park track with friends and colleagues. Labor Day weekend 2019 will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the NCM grand opening. As they do every five years, caravans from all over the US will converge on Bowling Green, KY to help celebrate. If you have not already signed up please get in touch with Randy Flock, the NE Caravan leader. He is securing extra rooms at each stop along the way. The NE Caravan will depart from Gettysburg with arrival in Bowling Green, KY on Tuesday-one day ahead of the other caravans. The next ten dollar raffle will be coming up late this summer and I will have tickets. But if you can`t wait till then, c heck out the NCM Website for the latest raffle cars. Tickets cost more but you have better odds of winning. And as always, checkout the NCM Website for the latest and greatest Corvette news as well as the museum gift shop for some new items and sales. The President had asked for motions to accept each report and they were. Greg then reopened the meeting. He asked Jim Burns for an update on some club activities. Jim reported that the Ogunquit, Me. trip has six couples going so far, arriving at 4pm on Friday and leaving Sunday morning. There will be a trip to the Olw Head Transportation Museum. There are cars and airplanes on exhibit and great take included. Contact Jim if you would like to go. He added that the raffle for the book of 100 lottery tickets is 40% sold so far. The tickets are $10 apiece or you can take a book of five to sell. There will only be 200 tickets sold. So that is not bad odds to spend ten dollars and win the 100 tickets. The winner of the book is guaranteed to win a minimum of $535 and up to the jackpot of $4 million dollars. The Club can make up to $1,000-,after paying the $1,000 for the book if all the tickets are sold and this will be put towards the charity donations at the end of year. So your also helping the Veterans and kids when you buy tickets. The drawing will be held on the first Cruise Night, May 8 th and you do not have to attend to win. For tickets contact Jim Burns..If this is successful there may be another one with a drawing in the late Fall. Greg said the Gala party, April 21st, will begin at 6:30pm till midnight. Still need to know who are planning on going contact Greg or Jim Burns if you are going and haven t had a chance to do so, All the contact information is on the NSCM website for anyone on the Eboard. If a member has a question about anything, please contact them. We don`t want you to miss out on anything.

Greg continued that the Dust of Cruise would be a combination of caravanning down to The Blessing of the Vettes, at Corvette Mike`s on May 5th,and going to the Heritage Museum in Plymouth where they will have a race car exhibit with the other exhibits and plenty to see there. They will be having lunch down there. Greg said he is looking for four or more volunteers for the 8th annual Fuzzy Dice dice roll/cookout This will take place on July 15th at the Pembrooke, NH, Memorial Field. Ten dollars a person and anyone with a Corvette is welcome to participate. In case of rain, you can come in your steel vehicle. The grounds have a big covered area that we will be using and real bathroom facilities. Prizes will be awarded for high and low rollers; $200 for high roller and a great barbecue also. It`s a nice fun day to spend with your Corvette friends. Corvette clubs are welcome to come and enjoy. Greg continued that the Club shirts this year will cost the members who wish to purchase them $10. The Eboard wanted to give one to each member for free but these will be Polo shirts for the men, Paque K-500, and Charles River 2913 for the women. These are, nice shirts and blouses which cost around $20 a piece. So the club will pick up about half the cost of the shirts for anyone wishing to purchase one. They will be black with the women s having the club patch on the left front and the men s with the club patch on left front and 7 generations on back. Corvette Mike`s logo will be on left sleeve. Tony Liburdi and Dickie Cialone then went over some upcoming non-club events. Starting April 12th is the Bass Pro Cruise Night-every other Thursday until October 25th. Dickie said the club does go down to some of these. There will be email blasts whenever the club is going to any of these shows and if a member is going to something let us know and we can put a blast out. April 21st is Adam`s Detail Clinic at Corvette Mike`s in Carver,MA. May 5th is the Blessing of the Vettes at Corvette Mike`s in Carver,MA from 10am-2pm. May 5th is the first Corvettes and Coffee breakfast cruise in from 9am-noon on the first Saturday of the month May thru September. May 8th is the NSCM s first cruise night on every Tuesday, weather permitting, until September 25 th. May 12 th is Adam Detail Clinic at New England Corvette Rentals, 98 Billerica Ave., Billerica, MA from 10am-2pm. May 14th-Sept.17th, Mondays, All Car Cruise Night at the Abington Ale House run by the South Shore Corvette Club. May,19 is the 3rd Annual All Corvette Show from 10am- 2pm presented by the Corvette Club of Western MA at Balise Chevrolet. May 27th is Gate City Corvette Club`s 38th Spring Fling with registration from 8-11am. May 28th is the NSCM visit to South Shore Corvettes Car Show, Abington, MA. There were still two rooms left for the Back to the Beach weekend on June 8th-10th. Greg then asked for any other new or old business and none noted. Ursula Bolz then drew the winning ticket for the 50/50, her ticket?? WT huh!!!! Congrats to Ursula!!! At 7:40PM the President made a motion to end the meeting and Ursula did some card tricks for the crowd. These are my views as I see and record it. Dan Dellucci

TECH TALK: ( WE WOULD WELCOME YOUR SUGGESTIONS OR ARTICLES FOR PUBLISHING FOR OUR MEMBERSHIP.) A REMINDER FOR ALL OUR FELLOW MEMBERS AND ANYONE READING THIS ARTICLE: YOUR VEHICLE INSPECTION IS REQUIRED IF THIS IS YOUR MONTH TO GET INSPECTECTED. DON'T WAIT OR PUT IT OFF!!! 4 FYI MA State Inspection Law Effective October 1, 2017 Effective October 1, 2017, there is a new Massachusetts State Inspection Law. MA Law Effective April 7, 2015 Creates New Surchargeable Violation The MA legislature has passed a new law set to go into effect on April 7, 2015. The new law requires that you turn on your headlights and tail lights whenever you turn on your windshield wipers. The new law also requires headlights and tail lights be turned on when visibility is reduced to less than 500 feet. Failure to follow this new law could result in a ticket AND insurance surcharge. So please remember to turn on your lights when it is rainy or foggy! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NH Law Effective July 1, 2015 As of July 1, 2015, it will be against the law to drive and talk on a cell phone in New Hampshire unless you are using a hands free solution such as speaker phone or Bluetooth through your car radio. This is similar to what the state of Connecticut enforces presently. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AAA Membership Benefits: Bicycle Service Everyone knows that AAA offers 24-hour roadside assistance for your vehicle, but now AAA Southern New England and NJ Auto Club covers your bicycle, too! AAA Bicycle Service is free and available to all membership levels including insiders! There is no sign up or enrollment. AAA Members automatically receive two bicycle calls per year. 1997-2004 C5 Corvette Shifter Installation Posted February 6, 2013 by Zip Corvette in Corvette Technical Articles The C5 Corvette six-speed is an all-out blast to drive. With a solid linkage and a rear-mounted transmission, it s one of the best-engineered gearboxes available in a street car. Problem is, it doesn t take much to push the C5 Corvette shifter to its limits under hard driving. That s when shifter response and actuation can be challenging. Missed shifts and a lazy stick feel are very common and can become an instant source of frustration. To address this problem, C5 Corvette owners should consider the installation of a short-throw billet shifter. We sampled Kirban s Kwik Six-Speed Shifter, which features solid billet construction and a 20% overall reduction in shift throws by using a shorter handle, thus altering the pivot geometry. Additionally, this shifter is engineered with heavier detent springs, allowing for a much crisper shifter action. Missed shifts are virtually eliminated. Installation of this shifter is surprisingly easy. Remember that before you begin, please make sure the emergency brake is set and the shifter is in fourth gear. With some basic hand tools, you can install it in about 11/2 hours. We topped it off with a Kirban billet shift knob. The results were remarkable. We bought our C5 Corvette shifter from Zip Corvette Parts, 8067 Fast Lane, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, 1-800-962-9632. Step 1 01: To remove your Corvette s shift knob, pry up the plastic shift pattern on the tip of the shift knob. Remove the aluminum pressure pin using a flat head screwdriver and needle nose pliers or vise-grips. Fasten the vise-grips to the pin and insert the screwdriver under the tab and pry up. If the pin won t move, use some spray lube or liquid wrench to loosen it. Once it s loose, unscrew the shift knob.

Step 2 02: To remove your Corvette s center console, lift the center storage bin and locate the two plastic tabs at the rear of the bin. Lift off the plastic tabs to access the two 10mm nuts and remove them. Step 3 03: Remove the traction control button trim panel by gently prying up. Disconnect the traction control harness and the variable suspension selector harness (if equipped). Disconnect the accessory plug wiring harness and remove the two 10mm nuts. Now gently pry off the interior temperature sensor trim plate to the left of the ignition and remove the T15 torx screw. Lift the ashtray cover then remove the ashtray and the two T15 torx screws (If you have a convertible, you ll have to remove the waterfall. Unscrew the three T15 torx screws, one on top and one on each side of the base. Lift the waterfall straight up and set aside). Now slide the center storage bin towards the rear of the vehicle. Pop off the center console trim plate, disconnect the cigarette lighter harness and set aside. The shifter and shifter boot should now be exposed. Step 4 04: With the console top out of the way, you can now remove the four 10mm bolts on the rubber shift boot and lift the boot off.

Step 5 05: Then remove the four 10mm bolts at the base of the shifter and lift off. Use a razor blade to remove any old gasket material from the linkage-mounting base. Pop off the black plastic insulator on the bottom end of the stock shifter and install on your Kirban Kwik 6-speed Corvette shifter. Step 6 06: Apply a bead of silicone RTV to the base of the new Corvette shifter. Step 7 07: Install the new C5 Corvette shifter with the 4 supplied bolts and hand tighten. Once they are hand tightened, then torque the bolts to 20-25 ft.-lbs. in a cross pattern.

Step 8 08: To adjust the shift stops, engage the shifter into 1st gear and adjust the front stop, allowing room for a postcard to slip freely between the stop and the shift stalk. Repeat the process for 3rd gear. To adjust 2nd and 4th gears, repeat the process on the rear stop. Shift the new shifter several times in each gear so you are certain the adjusting screws are set properly. Reinstall the stock shift boot and then tighten the bolts. Replace the console trim panel and center console and reconnect all of the electrical connection harnesses. Tighten all bolts and screws. Step 9 09: If you are keeping the factory shift knob, screw it on and replace the pressure pin. Use a soft mallet to drive in the pressure pin and you re ready to bang some gears! Step 10 10: We chose Kirban s Billet 6-Speed Shift Knob. It comes with the six-speed shift pattern engraved in the top of the ball that has a nice positive feel that adds to the precise feel of the shifter. 1997-2004 C5 Corvette Shifter Installation: Installing a C5 Billet Shifter Text and photography by Chris Byrd and Paul Zazarine.
