YACHT TALK May 2014 Clover Island Yacht Club Kennewick, Washington From the Helm Board of Directors Commodore Dan Bunn Vice Larry Kuga Commodore May is finally here and hopefully the warmer weather is upon us. The new yearbooks have arrived and are at the clubhouse with your names on them. Secretary Entertainment Building and Grounds Docks Past Commodore Jolene Grimes Jim Sarpolus Mark Cope Roy Jeffrey Greg Hammer Construction for the new storage building has been completed as well as the retaining wall at the flag pole. Thanks to Mark and Jamie Cope for all of their hard work with the flag pole landscaping project along with Walt Nelson, Greg Hammer, Matt Worman, and Mike and Jolene Grimes and everyone else that has helped with this project. It looks absolutely wonderful. I would like to thank everyone who attended Tuesday nights General Membership meeting, we had a great discussion on non-resident regular membership. The Board received a lot of great feedback on this topic. The Visitor s Weekend is coming up May 30th through June 1st. There will be a signup sheet in the clubhouse for you to sign up if you would like to have your boat or boathouse Christened. A flyer is attached for more details. If you bring your pets to the clubhouse please have them on a leash. There have been many complaints of dogs sitting outside the clubhouse. Poles have been installed at the West side of the club house to tie up your pets while you are in the clubhouse. As a reminder again, please be sure to get your insurance policies for your boat and/or boathouse to the club so we can keep them on record. Thanks to Greg, Suzie, and Alyssa Hammer and Dick and Sharon Nustad for taking the CIYC Traveling Burgee to Belize. Happy Boating Dan
Please welcome new member, Todd & Stacy Kidwell, voted in at the May 2014 general membership meeting. A few reminders: Members are responsible for security around the club, if you see anyone you don t recognize, introduce yourself and find out who they are. Do not loan out your keys to anyone, guests are allowed on the docks only when you are present, you are responsible for your guests. If the dumpster is full, DO NOT stack garbage in front of the dumpster, the garbage driver will not move it and it just gets spread all around the dumpster area creating a big mess. If you find the dumpster is full please take your trash to the dumpster near the boat ramp. Please keep your dogs on a leash at all times around the club and on the docks. Also please clean up after your pet! Please use the metal, heavy duty dock carts (located in the haul out) for any construction materials or debris. The fiberglass and plastic dock carts are not meant for the heavy construction use. Please clean out any debris from the carts after you use them. Remember to return the carts to the top of the ramp immediately after using them.

Cruise and Entertainment By: Jim Sarpolus Jimbo and Anna Sedgwick Cruise/Fleet Captains Matthew and Jenee Worman...Entertainment Committee Chairpersons Past Events in April: April 19, 2014 Easter Egg Hunt Hosted by Sarpolus/Hood 23 children were there for the egg hunts, along with the moms, dads and grand parents alike having a good time. Candy, Cake and Ice Cream for all and then making Easter baskets with rice crispy treats. April 19, 2014 Barrel Wine Tasting hosted by Richland Yacht Club This event was cancelled and is intended to be rescheduled at a later date. April 25-27, 2014 Fish Hook Cruise Hosted by Lomax/McCue/Jeffrey The hosts wanted to mention the work Lisa Jeffrey did on the shopping and pre-cooking so that all the delicious meals went smoothly! The men had gone up the weekend before and cleaned up the camp area, checked the fire wood, swept the docks, goose poop etc. Everyone pitched in and it all was a great event even with the adverse weather challenge. There were not as many attendees compared to the number of people who signed up, 10 boats. 1 RV, 21 people, and 2 visitors on Saturday. Plenty of good food was enjoyed as all gathered around the fire pit. The weather could have been better, but there seemed to be a little sunny oasis spot right in the middle of the blustery weather to help keep the camper warm. Some chose not to return on Sunday and decided to stay until Monday to avoid the high winds on Sunday, so those that stayed over enjoyed another night around the camp fire and food that was left. Events for May 2014: May 3, 2014. Cinco de Mayo Party Hosted by Grimes/Coffland/ Worman/ McCue. In the usual CIYC style the Hosts had tons of helpers! It s hard to call out all of the extra help, but the Jeffrey s, Lomax s, and Hammer s seemed to always be in the scenery. This was a first time evolution for this team, as in the past this had been catered by Azteca. Jenee developed the fabulous menu, Jolene, Mike, Tiffany, Dan, Jenee, Matt, Wendy and Kent all worked hard throughout the event with serving and the many rounds of shopping and numerous errands to make sure they had all the necessities, not to mention clean up afterwards. Jolene obtained the awesome decorations and organized the mariachi singers for entertainment during dinner. Jolene and Tiffany had, Dan, Mike, Kent, and Matt to help them hanging decorations, and to assure beverages were all iced up and ready to serve. The Grimes got the Piñatas that were a big hit and was so much fun as well as the churros all enjoyed.can t forget the ice cream machine too, brought in and served up by Chuck Stack. Thanks to all for the hard work. May 10, 2014 Boater s Swap Meet Joint Club event by CIYC and RYC Time.. 8:00-1200 in the CIYC parking lot.
