Day by Day Itinerary: Days 1-2: Johannesburg - Hazyview - Kruger National Park (1B/1L/2D)
Your African adventure will begin in one of Africa's most chic cities, Johannesburg, known as the "City of Gold". Depart the city travelling through the panoramic Mpumalanga Province with dramatic landscapes and beautiful views en route to the enormous Greater Kruger Area, South Africa's most important park, covering over 24,000 square kilometres. Several years ago, fences between the park and surrounding reserves were removed to create a vast space where over 145 species of African wildlife and over 500 bird species are free to roam. Kruger is home to over 330 varieties of trees and also merges with parks in the neighbouring countries of Botswana and Mozambique. Search out the "Big 5" (leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino) on a game drive as well as graceful giraffes, hippos, zebras, various species of antelope and a diverse variety of reptiles and birds. Enjoy spending your first night in the Kruger area watching a Shangaan cultural tribal dance and singing. Take a full day game drive on day 2 in the National Park and keep your eye out for the most elusive animals! Day 3: Hazyview, Greater Kruger - Tshipise, South Africa (1B/1L/1D) Depart the Kruger area today and travel through South Africa's lush landscapes to reach Tshipise in the north, en route to the neighboring country of Zimbabwe. Stay overnight near the Limpopo River adjacent the Honnet Nature Reserve. Admire the lush hills of Limpopo's majestic koppies and enjoy a soak in the hot springs surrounded by a dense forest of Jakkalsbessie, Red Bushwillow and Mopani trees plus South Africa's third largest Baobab tree. Day 4: Tshipise, South Africa - Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (1B/1L/1D) Depart Tshipise this morning and cross over the South Africa's border inbto Zimbabwe via the bustling Beitbridge border post, the busiest of all of South Africa borders. After crossing the border, continue onto Zimbabwe's second largest city, Bulawayo, where you will make a stop in town before continuing to your campsite in the Matopos Area. Day 5: Matobo National Park (1B/1L/1D) This morning we head out to explore this lesser known but totally rewarding Matobo National Park, which, with a total area of 44 500 hectares, was awarded Unesco World Heritage Status in June 2003. The Park is home to a wide variety of animal species including: black and white rhinoceros, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, kudu, eland, sable, klipspringer, leopard, hyena, cheetah, hippo, warthog, rock dassies, waterbuck, wildcat, springhare, common duiker, crocodiles, baboons and monkeys. With both natural and historical highlights, the area is a valued site and a delight to explore. The opportunity for walking in the wild with the guide is also on the cards, and we see if we can spot some wildlife on foot today. Days 6-7: Bulawayo - Livingstone, Zambia (2B) Today we will pass through the famous Victoria Falls and cross the border into Zambia where you will continue your trip to Livingstone and arrive at your camp near the banks for the Zambezi River just outside town. Enjoy the camp's deck overlooking the river and choose from the numerous
optional activities this area has to offer. Bungee jumping, white water rafting, abseiling, gorge swinging, scenic flights, river cruises and horseback riding are all available for you to enjoy! Don't miss out on seeing Africa's spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, included in your tour. Known as the "smoke that thunders" these falls are the largest curtain of waterfalls in the world and the spray can be seen from over 20 kilometres away. These beautiful and powerful waterfalls are breathtaking and the perfect place to say goodbye to the rest of your group as your trip comes to an end. The only meals included in Livingstone are breakfasts so you have the freedom to choose where to have lunch or spend all day participating in activities without the need to meet back up with the group at camp. The Waterfront camp offers reasonably priced meals (approx. $15-30 USD per meal) or you can take a taxi into Livingstone for a taste of local cuisine. Your trip will end after breakfast on day 7. Say goodbye to your friends after a wonderful and unforgettable trip in Africa! *Note: Itinerary is subject to change at anytime without prior notice due to weather conditions, safety and based on the judgement of the guide according to park and game viewing conditions. Please contemplate bringing extra spending money for personal expenses during your trip: snacks, drinks, souvenirs, tips and souvenirs. As a general guideline we recommend budgeting US$10-15 per day. Most spending will be in Botswana Pula (for incidental expenses along the way, optional activities, most additional accommodation before/after the trip) but it's a good idea to bring along some US$ cash for any international airport taxes or visas (US Dollars in clean, un-torn, post 2006 edition notes). Only Botswana Pula is accepted in Botswana. Don't forget to allow money for before and after the tour if you are spending time in Victoria Falls. - Spending money is best carried as cash in Botswana Pula or US dollars (US Dollars in clean, un-torn, post 2006 edition notes). Sterling or Euro can also be exchanged into local currency on arrival and as you travel. Your guide will give general guidance about spending during the tour. - Currencies are as follows: US Dollar, Botswana Pula. - ATM machines are found in Victoria Falls, Livingstone, Kasane and in Maun, Botswana although may be unreliable (so we ask that you please do not rely on them). - Credit cards can be used to pay for some optional activities although fees for use may be higher than you are accustomed to at home. - This is a participation tour and your help will be needed in setting up the camp each night and assisting (usually on a rota basis) with the various day to day campsite duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the truck and camp tidy. But don't worry it's not all hard work and it's a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip. Tipping: As in many areas where tourism is an important contributor to the economy it has become customary to offer a small gratuity to local staff at the end of the tour if service has been of a high standard. Naturally this always remains at your discretion.
