FIRST AID & CPR/AED TRAINING Slate Medical LLC is a Proud Provider of American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED Training WHY GET TRAINED IN CPR? Heart disease (which includes heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest) continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States (about 1 out of every 4 deaths), more than all forms of cancer combined. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of cardiac emergencies; activating EMS by calling 9-1-1 or the local emergency number; and providing immediate care in the form of CPR and using an AED is part of the Cardiac Chain of Survival that saves lives. For each minute that CPR and defibrillation are delayed, the chance for survival is reduced by about 10 percent. Time is critical without oxygenated blood circulating to the brain, brain damage is possible after 4 minutes and is almost certain after 10 minutes. Cardiac emergencies can happen anywhere (in the workplace, at home, or in public places); and can happen to anyone (young or old, healthy or with a history of heart disease). Unfortunately, the first heart attack is sometimes the first and final sign of heart disease. The chances of survival from sudden cardiac arrest are increased when the individual receives CPR (and defibrillation from an AED) before receiving advanced care in the hospital.

WORKPLACE FIRST AID PROGRAMS Slate Medical LLC provides first aid & CPR supplies and training to assist organizations with building and maintaining their workplace first aid programs. The founding mission of Slate Medical is to educate as many people as possible about recognizing and responding to sudden cardiac arrest, stroke, and other medical emergencies. A workplace first aid program is part of a comprehensive safety and health management system that includes first aid supplies and training in first aid and CPR. The federal OSHA first aid standard (29 CFR 1910.151) generally requires employers to have people trained in first aid and to have adequate quantities of first aid supplies readily available. Employers are responsible for determining the need for additional types and quantities of first aid supplies and equipment unique to their workplace by reviewing their log of work-related injuries and illnesses and other records. Employers are required to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) when employees could be exposed to blood and other potentially infectious materials. In addition, employers are required to have suitable equipment for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body if exposed to injurious materials.
