Southern Nevada Chapter, Inc. #2735 F E B R U A R Y 2 0 0 6 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Editor s Note January Meeting Minutes H.O.G. Call From the Road Captains Announcements, Reminders, and Updates Lucky H.O.G.s Business Page Calendar P2 P3 P4 P5 P6 P7 P9 P11 From the Director s Saddle. Hello Hogsters! Well, we are off and running in 2006. The Hair of the Hog was our first event of the year, and it was a great success with a lunch ride down to Bullhead City, AZ. Then, as you know, we just finished the dealership s first poker run of the year, the 4th annual Frosty Balls Poker Run. Though I was not there, I understand it was a huge success. From what I hear, there were over 800 bikes. Of course the volunteers of Southern Nevada Hog, 2006 SNHOG Officers led by your activities officers, Lene and Mark Mogavero made it run as smooth as possible and there were no problems at all. Thanks to all who helped out. On a side note, we ran a 50/50 raffle that made the Chapter over $300.00 dollars. On January 28th we headed out on our first overnighter, to Yuma, Arizona. Then in February we will have our first Meet and Greet on the 4th. I encourage all new members to come on out and meet fellow members of this Chapter, but more importantly learn how to ride in an organized group. Our Road Captain s will go over our hand signals, why we do certain things in DIRECTOR JOHNNY THOMPSON 378.3503 DIRECTOR@SNHOGLV.COM ASSISTANT DIRECTORS JIM LARSON 896.9431 ASSTDIRECTORJIM@SNHOGLV.COM KEVIN PACHTINGER 232.2508 ASSTDIRECTORKEVIN@SNHOGLV.COM SECRETARY LYNNETTE ABAD SECRETARY@SNHOGLV.COM TREASURER PAT CRITTENDEN 435-9004 TREASURER@SNHOGLV.COM ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT KAREN HERIFORD 878.3565 ADMINASSISTANT@SNHOGLV.COM LEAD ROAD CAPTAIN MARK HASTIE LEADROADCAPTAIN@SNHOGLV.COM NEWSLETTER EDITOR ARNNY ABAD 630.1669 EDITOR@SNHOGLV.COM ACTIVITIES OFFICER MARK & LENE MOGAVERO 434.8988 ACTIVITIESOFFICER@SNHOGLV.COM HISTORIAN MARILYN HASTIE 248.4515 HISTORIAN@SNHOGLV.COM PHOTOGRAPHERS KENN WYNN KRWYNN@COX.NET 860-5678 WEBMASTER LARRY LEWIS WEBMASTER@SNHOGLV.COM SPONSORING DEALER REP TOM PLEHN 595-8019 HOGREP@.COM

PAGE 2 Editor s Note Well, this is a short one, so no trips to the john with this month s newsletter. The most noticeable thing is that we don t have the photo gallery this month because this issue is going to print and the format required that the newsletter had a number of pages divisible by four. But fear not. There are plenty of pictures to look at. This brings me to my next point. Don t be shy, submit articles with your riding and other experiences with the group. It is a good boost for the older members and an enticing read for the newer ones. It doesn t matter how simple you think it might be, any motorcycle related story is a sure hit with this group. That s it for now. Cheers, Arnny...if you buy Chapter patches for your vest or jacket, the rockers must be touching each other, separation is not acceptable Director s Saddle...cont. certain situations, and also answer any questions and concerns you may have. We want all new members to feel as comfortable as possible. We will have our ambassadors and other experienced riders to help you along the way. An ambassador will ride next to a new member in order to make the newer riders a bit more comfortable. I want to welcome all new members to SNHOG and let you know that we are a nonalcohol riding Chapter. Also, if you buy Chapter patches for your vest or jacket, the rockers must be touching each other, separation is not acceptable and you will be asked to remove them. O.K., then on February 8th is the Chapter s first Meet and Eat, where we will meet at different restaurants in the city just to get together and enjoy each other s company. This month we will meet at the Red Robin at Decatur and Sahara, so come on out and meet fellow HOG members. As we get into the upcoming months, we will really pick up the pace, with more riding events per month. I have heard from members who would like to see more rides on Sundays, so the primary officers will do their best to provide them. As you are all aware, we are now on a points system, in which the more active you are, the more points you will earn. It is my hope that regardless of points, you will pull that Harley out of the garage and get active in this Chapter. This Chapter has so much to offer, all you have to do is get involved. So let s get some miles on that scooter and get it dirty because a clean bike means you are not riding enough. Until next time, ride safe and have fun. MOUNT UP- LET S RIDE Johnny

PAGE 3 January Meeting Minutes. Treasurer s Report January 17, 2006 Beginning Balance: 1/1/06: $1,826.81 Income: $7,862.36 Expenses: $748.69 Ending Balance: 1/17/06: $8,940.48 Johnny opened the meeting by expressing how proud he is of being a Harley-Davidson owner. He also stressed that we all are part of this chapter for the love of our bikes and riding rather then for discounts or points. With that, he introduced Jeff Lewis who spoke more about the new Biker Rewards program. A few points that Jeff made were that the points are only good for the main dealership (Eastern store) and the Flamingo dealership. He also stated that the HOG Biker Rewards card is good for purchases and participation. Johnny also added that if you start a ride, however choose to not finish it, you do not get points for that ride or event. Therefore, to track this, there will be a sign-in sheet at the beginning of the ride/event and then at the end your Rewards card will be scanned. Tom Plehn, our dealer rep, was then introduced. Being a retired Metro Motor Officer, he is constantly asked for good riding tips. His tip of the month is the following Do not apex during a turn off an off ramp. Stay within the turn. All of the oil and gas from trucks tend to go to the middle of the road, therefore if you apex, you have more of a chance to slide while making that turn. Thanks Tom!! It sounds like this Tip of the Month might turn into something. Mark Hastie, our Lead Road Captain spoke about how the Road Captains will handle the chase vehicles for this year. He also introduced our newest Road Captains, Jim Collupy, Sean Priddy and Joe Screnci. Congrats guys! Johnny then introduced the new Ambassadors for 2006. They are Jackie Collupy, Mick Walker, Victoria Walker, Terry Askew and John Boothby. Lene and Mark then spoke about our upcoming events. If you have any questions about future events, please call Lene and Mark for information. Lynnette, our Secretary, spoke about the time it is taking to receive the new Biker Rewards cards. It has been taking them weeks, so please be patient everyone. If you signed up more than 3 weeks ago, please email me at secretary@snhoglv.com and let me know. I will make sure to forward your emails to them. Also, guess what? I found the Birthday certificates! Yes, it is true. They were hiding underneath the boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations we moved into our garage, therefore, all you December B-Days should have them very soon. As always, this is a nonalcoholic Chapter. Therefore, drinking will not be permitted right before or during a Chapter ride. If someone chooses to drink, they will not be allowed to ride with the group for the remainder of that function. Also, during this summer heat, please remember to wear lots of sunscreen and drink plenty of water before a ride. This is essential to summer riding in Las Vegas. There is always a chase vehicle on each ride that will provide plenty of water as well. (Continued on page 5)

PAGE 5 From the Road Captains... By the time this newsletter reaches you we will have completed our first month of the New Year. We ve had our annual Hair of the HOG ride to Bull Head City Arizona, 47 bikes and 63 members made it out New Year s morning for a great ride. We hope you had a chance to ride in the Dealership s Frosty Balls IV; this always a great poker run to start the year with. We ve also had our first overnighter, one of our favorites to Yuma Arizona, with a side trip across the border to Mexico. I want to introduce our 3 newest Road Captains: Jim Collupy, Sean Priddy and Joey Screnci, please congratulate them when you see them. The Road Captains for 2006 have once again volunteered to supply the chase / support vehicle for both this year s out of town and this summers hot weather rides. This vehicle will be available with water for rides and support if a bike breaks down on a ride out of town. As always with any ride, try to signal a thumbs down if you are having any type of difficulties to the rear Road Captains as you safely pull out of the group, and they will stop and assist as needed to get you back on the road or call for a tow vehicle. In February we will have our first Meet and Greet for 2006, please come and join us for a short ride and an introduction for our new members to the Las Vegas HOG Chapter and our group riding styles. We will finish this ride with a lunch at the Dealership. We will also have our first 3 day trip and 2 night overnighter for 2006 to San Diego. This is another great weekend ride location, with both the Southern California beach and mountains as possible Sunday excursions, information on the hotel and reservations will be available at the general membership meeting and will be posted on the web site again as soon as available. The weather in Southern California is normally very nice at this time of the year and that should make for a great 3 day weekend ride. Take a good look at the Calendar and find the ride or rides that interest you and join us. As always ride safe and have fun. Mark We will have our first 2 night overnighter for 2006 to San Diego; this is another great weekend ride location... Minutes continued... Lastly, always arrive for rides on time and fully fueled. Lastly, we have been sending Chapter correspondences via email and it has been quite a success. So, don t be kept out of the loop and keep your email addresses current with us by sending them to secretary@snhoglv.com. Remember, the Calendar in your Newsletter is the last word! Also, check out our Chapter website at www.snhoglv.com. Lynnette
