Please let her know if you are willing to host, day host, evening host CHECK-OUT OUR CLUB WEBSITE: www.richmondfriendshipforce.org Northern Colorado Exchanges Barbara Powell has volunteered to be the Exchange Director for both the April Inbound and September Outbound Colorado exchanges. Barbara has been working on these projects for over a year and has met and talked with key representatives from the Colorado clubs. INBOUND: The Northern Colorado club has confirmed its intention to visit April 19-26. Barbara has also contacted the Denver club about the possibility of joining for a four-day exchange, April 21-24. Colorado Springs cannot visit due to conflicts in scheduling. These US friends are interested in seeing Washington, D.C., Monticello, James River Plantations, Jamestown and Williamsburg. Barbara would like to solicit help from members for day hosting so that home hosts could have choices about what activities they may or may not be interested in, due to the travel involved with these sites. Free time would be available for sightseeing in Richmond. The Roy and Peggie Haley offered their Lake Anna home for a relaxed pot-luck farewell luncheon on Sunday, prior to the Monday departure. Phyllis Wacker has offered her home in Surry for a dinner. The Jim and Suzanne Spivey will help with the DC transportation and day trip. Emphasis would be on early US history, as well as spring gardens. OUTBOUND: This outbound exchange to Northern Colorado is scheduled for September 8-15, 2010. Barbara also mentioned the possibility of an extended trip at the end of the exchange for anyone who might be interested. This idea is in the early planning stages, but sites might include Denver, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Vail, and eastern Utah. The total time away would be around two weeks or less. This was presented as food for thought to anyone interested. These exchanges offer an excellent opportunity to make new friends while hosting in April and to continue the connection by visiting your guests in September. Members who host for the incoming exchange will be given first option on the outgoing exchange. Please contact Barbara Powell and offer your support. She is looking for Hosts and Day Hosts. Her telephone number is 741-8288 and her email address is beep428@hotmail.com The Friendship Force 3
DISCOVER SOUTHERN ITALY Exchange Director: Richard Spencer Discover Southern Italy is a Friendship Force International exchange to southern Italy. Currently I have 19 traveling on the exchange. Two are from Canada and the rest from across the USA and as far away as Hawaii. The dates for this exchange are May 18-29, 2010. Individuals will secure their own air transportation to Rome, which will permit flexibility for those who wish to spend more time in Rome. During the exchange we will travel by chartered motor coach. Southern Italy is an area less visited than Rome and to the north of Rome, but the south has an interesting history and it is very scenic. The last four days we will be in Sorrento, near world famous sites that surround the Bay of Naples: Pompeii, Capri, Mount Vesuvius, the Amalfi coast, Herculaneum, Paestum, and Naples. We will stay in hotels on this exchange, since there is no Friendship Force club in southern Italy. I am working with a person in Matera toward forming a Friendship Force club. We will enjoy an in-home dinner during our four days in the city of Matera and we will host these same people at a restaurant. Please go to http://www.datapdq.com for more information and the itinerary. The FFI application form can be printed from the above web site. The cost of the exchange is $1892. International airfare is not included. I am still accepting applications, since I have a few openings. I am a member of the Friendship Force of Lincoln Nebraska, and currently serving as vice president. In 2008 I led an exchange of twenty-six ambassadors to this same area. If you are interested in traveling on this exchange please contact me, then complete the application form, which is on the above website at http://www.datapdq.com/forms.htm. Please let me know if you have questions via email richspe@goitaly.net or by phone, 402-488-6930. I will be happy to return your call if I am unavailable.
