ITINERARY DAY 1: LULEA - BRANDON LODGE On arrival you will be transferred for 30 minutes along the Swedish coast to the Bråndön Lodge, located on a small island overlooking the frozen waters of the Lulea archipelago. After being welcomed by your hosts, dinner will be served up in the lodge's main restaurant, after which there may be an opportunity to do some stargazing and aurora hunting en route back to your cabin. (D) DAY 2: BRANDON LODGE After breakfast you will be taken over to the nearby kennels to meet your team of huskies. Once ready, your dog-sled safari sets off at a steady pace, following the forested trails through the pristine countryside before returning to the lodge for a free afternoon. This evening you will then set off on a snowshoe trek along the frozen forest trails with an expert guide, who will tell you about the surrounding landscapes and of life in these harsh winter landscapes. (B,D) DAY 3: BRANDON LODGE Swapping husky sleds for snowmobiles today, your adventure continues amongst the frozen wilderness. One of the only places in Lapland where you can drive across the frozen sea, the spectacular islands of the Luleå archipelago provide a stunning backdrop to today's excursion. The destination is the island Brändöskär, an idyllic fishing village dating back to the 17th century, where you may visit the chapel and one of the fishing huts. On the way back there may be a chance to try some ice-fishing. Later, a sumptuous three course meal affords an opportunity to relax in the comfort of the lodge's cozy lounge. (B,L,D) DAY 4: BRANDON LODGE - LULEA - GALLIVARE - SAPMI NATURE CAMP This morning you will be transferred to Lulea train station for the train to Gallivare. You will be met and taken to Sapmi Nature Camp, a sustainable and small-scale camp close to the border of Laponia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The camp is operated by Lennart Pittja who grew up in a reindeer herding family here in the Unna Tjerusj Sami community, who have been grazing on the land for thousands of years. Only 2-10 guests can stay here at a time, creating a personal experience that does not threaten the reindeer and the herding here. Meet Lennart's family and their reindeer herd to have a go at reindeer herding yourself. Dinner each evening comes from the nature and are most often foraged, hunted or fished by Lennart himself. DAY 5: SAPMI NATURE CAMP - GALLIVARE - KIRUNA Depart after breakfast and transfer back to the train station for the train to Kiruna, where your tour ends. (B)
ACCOMMODATION GALLIVARE SAPMI NATURE CAMP Sápmi Nature Camp is a newly opened, sustainable and small-scale camp that offers high quality, close to nature accommodation on the border of Laponia World Heritage Area. The camp consists of newly built double rooms in the form of lavvu tents furnished with comfortable double beds, stoves and cosy furnishings inspired by nature and the Sami culture. Sápmi Nature Camp is operated by Lennart Pittja who grew up in a reindeer herding family here in Unna Tjerusj Sami community. This is grazing land that has been used by Unna Tjerusj for thousands of years. Sápmi Nature is committed to responsible tourism that does not threaten the reindeer and the herding here. The camp allows only between 2-10 guests at the same time, creating a personal and responsible experience. Spend your time here meeting Lennart s family who do day to day reindeer herding. They will teach you Sami history, reindeer herding and how the changing world and climate is affecting their life. Dinner each evening comes nature and are most often foraged, hunted or fished by Lennart himself. Local meats such as Moose or Reindeer and fish such as trout or arctic char are commonly on the menu and are complemented with local berries, herbs and vegetables. LULEA BRÄNDÖN LODGE Set on an island, overlooking the frozen waters and scattered islands of the Luleå archipelago, Brändön Lodge is an adventure camp offering a choice of 15 recently renovated cabins. Each comes equipped with a bathroom, two twin-bedded rooms, a lounge area and a front facing covered porch. The camp s main building includes a restaurant and relaxing lounge and guests are provided with winter clothing to make the most of the spectacular landscapes that surround it. Activities include tours of the pack ice by hovercraft and spectacular snowmobile safaris across the metre-thick ice of the frozen archipelago.
