APRIL 18-23, 2013 (Itinerary details subject to change) DAY ONE: Thursday, April 18, 2013 CALIFORNIA WASHINGTON DC! (D) Morning: Arrive at a Southern California airport 2.5 hours prior to your flight s departure time. Check in for your flight and then proceed through security to your departure gate. Depart for Washington DC! Evening: Arrive into a Washington DC area airport and be met by a World Projects staff member who will assist with loading the coaches. Transfer to the Sheraton Crystal City (TBC). After checking in meet your coaches to transfer to tonight s Welcome Dinner. Dinner as a group at Phillip s Seafood (TBC). After dinner return to the hotel with rest of evening free! DAY TWO: Friday, April 19, 2013 WASHINGTON DC! (B) - Rehearsal Morning: Buffet Breakfast as a group at the hotel (TBC). TBD: Group to assemble at Crystal Rooms V & VI (TBC) inside the Sheraton, Crystal City for your ensemble rehearsal. Afternoon: This afternoon is free for viewing the many sights that Washington DC has to offer with lunch on own. Your group may arrange a guided tour of the White House via your Congressperson. If this tour is scheduled by your Congressperson, His/Her office will determine the exact time (possibly meet your Congressperson, as well). {Travel by Metro for this tour}. You may also wish to include a visit to the White House Visitors Center, a tour of Ford s Theatre, or visiting one of the many museums in the Smithsonian Institution s complex. (All costs on own) Evening: Dinner on your own in the Crystal City shops area.
DAY THREE: Saturday, April 20, 2013 WASHINGTON DC Outdoor & Exchange Performances Morning: Breakfast on your own in the vicinity of the hotel. Assemble with instruments, load coaches and transfer to the US Capitol. Enjoy a guided tour of the US Capitol (TBC). After your tour, load coaches and transfer to the World War II Memorial (TBC) on the National Mall for the outdoor concert. Afternoon: Cathedral City HS performance at the World War II Memorial (TBC) {weather permitting} as part of the 2013 WDCIMF. Upon conclusion of your performance, load coaches and transfer to a Local Mall for lunch on own {possibly Union Station}. Load coaches and transfer to a local Washington DC area high school for an exchange performance (TBC). Arrive at local high school and perform a quick sound check in this evening s performance venue. Evening: Dinner on own near this evening s venue. Cathedral City HS exchange performance with a local area high school ensemble (TBC). Upon conclusion of your performance, load coaches and return to the hotel. DAY FOUR: Sunday, April 21, 2013 WASHINGTON DC (D) Workshop Enjoy a group workshop with a Festival clinician this morning. Afternoon: Free time for sightseeing in the National Mall area. Return to the hotel in time to freshen up for tonight s dinner cruise! Evening: Assemble in the lobby of the hotel, load coaches and transfer to the pier for a dinner cruise on the Potomac River! Enjoy meeting fellow festival participants while viewing the stunning Capital City from a completely different vantage point! Following the cruise, board your own coaches and return to the hotel.
DAY FIVE: Monday, April 22, 2013 WASHINGTON DC Kennedy Center Performance After breakfast walk to the metro station and take the Blue Line to Arlington Cemetery. {Visit the hallowed grounds of our Nation s famed National Cemetery; visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the John F Kennedy grave site, the Robert Kennedy grave site, see the Challenger Memorial and enjoy a very beautiful and respectful view of our Nations Capitol} (TBC) Afternoon: Lunch on own. Mid-afternoon, return to the hotel and change into performance attire. Load instruments onto the coaches and transfer to the Kennedy Center. Cathedral City HS sound check on stage at the Kennedy Center. Following your sound check, store instruments in your warm up room. Evening: Dinner on own. Return to the Kennedy Center for the evening adjudicated and showcase concert. Cathedral City HS performance, in the Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Following the concert is the Awards Ceremony. Upon conclusion of the Awards Ceremony, you will be escorted to your warm up area. Collect all instruments load your own coaches and return to the hotel. DAY SIX: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 WASHINGTON DC HOME After breakfast check out of the hotel, load coaches and transfer to a Washington DC area airport. Check in with airline, pass through security and on to your departure gate. Depart Washington DC via arranged airline. Arrive into Southern California Airport, collect all baggage and instruments.
