Fellowship lapel pins and lanyards Ahoy to all our Cruising Rotarians. We have reached the 200 members mark (fantastic). No doubt due to members of the Fellowship who contribute so much with photos and stories that keep ShipShape and Facebook viable and worthwhile. Just a note on our pins and lanyards. I purchased the initial batch of lapel pins and Rhonda the lanyards. We supply them to you at absolutely cost price plus postage. At this stage I have only 24 badges remaining. Understandably, not every member has purchased a badge or lanyard so we are reaching the stage where we should be thinking about reordering. Most members who wear their badges and lanyards say they are easily recognisable and identified at a glance. If you think you may like to purchase either now, or at a later date, please email us to give us an idea of numbers required as we can only order in batches of a hundred. On this topic, some members are purchasing them for groups. It would help us if, when ordering, you provide us with the names of the Rotarians receiving them as we must keep accurate records of our merchandise to satisfy the aims of Rotary. Cheers to you one and all and happy cruising. Perhaps we will be fortunate enough to meet on a cruise one day and enjoy some Fellowship of Rotary and Cruising. Fleet Admiral (President) Ray Even keeled Member Gerald sent this pic thru to prove that he does indeed wear his lanyard even in Monaco! On deck in Atlanta The Seoul RI Convention is over and the Atlanta Convention is just around the corner:10-14 July 2017. We have at least 7 Fellowship members going to Atlanta, but would love to know if you are going as well. http://www.riconvention.org/ If you re going, pls mail: cruisingrotarians@gmail.com to let us know. We ll keep a log of who will be attending and make a time/place for everyone to meet. Shot across the bow Our Fellowship is certainly one of the liveliest around, but we still need imput from members, whether that be via our Facebook page or simply emailing your thoughts to cruisingrotarians@gmail.com Your input will help keep our Fellowship lively, up to date and fun. We are all interested in learning about the cruising experiences or thoughts of fellow members, so we encourage you to either post pix to our Facebook page or send us those pix and we ll load the pix up for you. We also want to know about the cruises you ve booked, so that we can match members who are on the same cruise. Email Comander Lynne at RotarianCruisers@gmail.com and she will email you the form to register your cruise with us.
Set sail We ve have a system to match members who may be on the same cruise, and encourage you to let us know your cruise plans. Facebook followers will have noticed that cruises are posted as EVENTS on our page and you can get into a posted cruise to find out more info and indicate if you are also going on that cruise. All members will have received an email attaching the relevant form to complete to get your cruise included. Commander Lynne is at the helm of this nautical exercise. The form to let us know about your booked cruise is at the end of this ShipShape. Fathom it out post-atlanta cruise We raised the possibility of Fellowship members meeting up on a cruise on our Facebook page, where it sparked a fair bit of comment. Members thought that a cruise immediately after the RI Convention seemed like a jolly good idea. Commander Lynne sleuthed out a list of cruises out of Miami after the Convention and you check these out at https://is.gd/zigl3k. Comm Lynne also suggested meeting up on an impact cruise, eg: Fathom's Adonia (departs 15 July): find out more about impact cruising at https://is.gd/5jwfuw. We d love to get your feedback on joining other Fellowship members on a cruise post- Atlanta. Storm warning Our Facebook page is open to the public and anyone who visits the page can read all posts and comments. However, only members can post and comment. We urge you not to include any info that makes it easy to identify you such as your hometown, dates you ll be away from home, names of family members, etc. If you have a better idea, please do let us know as well. We have a fabulous vibe going on among our members and it would be wonderful to hear from you Testing the waters Interesting to see that Norwegian has banned guests from taking ALL beverages, including bottled water, onboard. Concensus seems to be that this is to make sure you spend more on board. Read the finer detail at: https://is.gd/phvxmb To protect your privacy, if you let us know the details, we will include these in the ShipShape list each month, which is emailed to members only. Email your cruise details to: cruisingrotarians@gmail.com
Batten down the hatches Even cruising is affected by world events. Our hearts went out to the people of Nice earlier last month and we noted that some cruises had been cancelled because of this. Other world-hotspots can affect cruisers. Read about a riverboat cruise passengers being robbed by gunmen. https://is.gd/tvr7nh Three sheets to the wind We know there are members who have cruised before but not attended meetings on board. So just what do you need to do to make sure there is a Rotary on board? Firstly, check the daily cruise newsletter and chances are there will be a meeting scheduled for Rotarians and/or service clubs. If you don t see one listed, go to the Purser s Office and ask them to schedule one which they will normally be very happy to do. While you re there, ask if a senior crew member would be available as a guest speaker. They will also book a suitable venue. It s really pot luck whether you have a full house or find you re the sole attendee, but it s worthwhile to attend and see what eventuates. Going overboard How s this for VIP treatment for a fur-child. Dogs and cats can travel in style on the QE2 in renovated kennel quarters, with the liner even providing a fire hydrant for pups! Read more at https://is.gd/ay7xzl Some ships provide makeup certificates along the lines of below, so it s worthwhile asking about these as well. The ASP is walking the plank As ShipShape sails into the sunset for this month, all Fellowship members are bid a fond farewell and calm seas.
