SMBSMG's objective is- "To ensure that, through Government legislation, the snowy brumby is recognised as part of the history, cultural heritage and social values of the Snowy Mountains and that sustainable populations of the snowy brumby are present and protected within Kosciuszko National Park" Hi all and welcome to our spring 2016 newsletter, it has been a busy time since the last newsletter with visits to the gate watchers at Blowing Dam, putting up balloons at Blowering Works Depot for Australia s National Day of Shame, the rally in Sydney and our submission to the Wild Horse Draft Plan of Management. Firstly though an important notice to book in your diaries AGM GHOST GULLY HORSE CAMP SATURDAY 1 ST OCTOBER 2016-2 PM Come for the meeting or the weekend to celebrate the park opening AGM notice and nomination for positions are at the end of the newsletter All positions are up for grabs so don t be shy! Congratulations and a sterling effort everyone who set up camp at Blowering Dam across the road from the NPWS Works Depot in protest to the trapping for the 2016 season. Another joint group effort was the National Day of Shame 1 st August at Blowering Dam where as you can see many black balloons were displayed as a symbol of the plight of the Brumbies being trapped in KNP. Thanks goes to SMBUG, Wagga Trail Riders and KBHCC members for their help on the day. 2 September 2016 Fourteen Edition
The amount of support was shown in great style at the recent rally held in Sydney 400-500 people. There was a united front from people all over Australia and abroad, it was just amazing. We just hope and pray that those who push pens take heed of what was said outside Parliament that day. 3 September 2016 Fourteen Edition
Thank you to Tumut & Adelong Times for their article on the rally. 4 September 2016 Fourteen Edition
The sad truth is while we continue to fight for our Snowy Brumbies they are being trapped and sent to their death. A recent photo of a trap site near Tantangra Dam. SMBSMG members have been making frequent visits to the park this trapping season and you can see the photos of the environmental damage caused by NPWS with their trap yard sites, lack of feral animal control and weeds in the attached submission to the Wild Horse Draft Plan of Management that closed on Friday the 19 th August 2016. Now we sit and wait for the outcome! Hopefully we will be catching up with a lot of you at the AGM in October, until then. Regards, Karen Carter Treasurer 5 September 2016 Fourteen Edition
