UW-W SUMMER STRING ORCHESTRA CAMPS June 21-26, 2015 Dear UW-W Camper: We are very pleased that you will be joining us for the UW-W Summer String Orchestra Camp. The following materials will help acquaint you with the various aspects of the camp. Please remember to fill out the online healthecamper form 5 days prior to camp starting. Campers will not be allowed to participate in camp activities without this online form. Please find a student information sheet; a camper needs checklist, an information sheet for your parents, a schedule, camp rules and regulations, and a campus map. Please read all of the information carefully. If you have any questions, feel free to write or call. I am looking forward to seeing you at camp. Sincerely, Benjamin Whitcomb, Director UW-W Summer String Orchestra Camp 920-723-7231 whitcomb@uww.edu

REGISTRATION 2015 UW-W SUMMER STRING ORCHESTRA CAMP MUSIC STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET Registration will be held in the Campus Visitor Center (http://www.uww.edu/campus/) on Sunday, June 21 st between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. All campers should report to the Visitor Center upon your arrival on campus. All remaining fees should have been made 10 days prior to camp. Do not bring your luggage or personal belongings into the Visitor s Center. At this time you will receive your meal band, T-shirt, room assignment, and I.D. badge. Your name badge is to be worn at all times. After registration, all campers will report to Clem Hall. After moving into your room, you will proceed to the Center of The Arts for a camp orientation meeting and for the Faculty Concert that marks the start of camp week. ORCHESTRA AUDITIONS We use rotational seating. If you would like to be considered for a leadership position (i.e., first stand), those of you who have not previously sent a video audition will have the opportunity to audition on Sunday afternoon after the opening concert. If you choose to audition, be prepared to perform a solo on your instrument. You might be asked to play some scales (to be selected from among the ones you know) and to do some sight-reading during these auditions as well. HONORS RECITAL A number of outstanding solo and ensemble performers from the camp will be invited to perform in the Honors Recital on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Bring your music and accompaniment parts to camp if you wish to audition for the honors recital. We will provide an accompanist. ROOMMATES Students are housed two to a room. A space for roommate preference was provided on the application form. If no request was received, students will be assigned to a roommate of approximately the same age and grade level. ATTENDANCE Attendance is mandatory at all camp classes, rehearsals, concerts, and other scheduled activities. Students may not leave campus at any time during the camp without written permission from parents and the head counselor. IN CASE OF ILLNESS Should you require medical attention, an assessment will be made by the camp health supervisor and appropriate measures will be taken. UW-Whitewater camps have the full cooperation of Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital and its emergency room personnel. If you have any health problems, including allergies, or are under any medication, please notify the head counselor at registration. (Continued)

INSTRUMENTS You are expected to bring your own instrument and have it in good working order. DRESS Bring clothes for 6 days. Washers, dryers, and ironing boards are available. You must provide your own soap and iron. Casual dress is suitable for rehearsals, classes, meals, and recreation. A sweater, sweatshirt, or jacket may be appropriate for classroom wear as the Center of the Arts is air-conditioned. The Friday concert will be semiformal: for example, dresses for the girls; shirts, ties, and slacks for the boys. The wearing of sport coats is optional. No jeans or tennis shoes at the concert, please. AWARDS The UW-W String Orchestra Camp will be awarding a small number of scholarships to next year's camp. These awards will be determined by the UW-W Strings Camp Staff and announced at the final concert. BULLETIN BOARD Changes in the schedule, messages for students, and other information will be posted on the String Orchestra Bulletin Boards by the camp counselors headquarters behind the Recital Hall. Check it often throughout each day.
