Indonesian Eco Tour 16-30 May 2018 This tour combines visits to four lodges situated in unique ecological & cultural locations in the Indonesia Archipelago. The emphasis is on showcasing their wildlife and culture. You will meet locals who will welcome you to their country.

Meet your Titch Tour Leaders Tour leading for his favourite tour company, Titch Tours is Michael s main retirement hobby and fun, assisting his daughter Mandi Aliverti. Titch Tours offers regular, fully-escorted tours to exotic destinations, catering for the mature traveller. Michael has been leading tours for over 40 years, starting as early as his University days; that passion is still with him. He is fortunate to have his partner Linda Godlonton accompanying him, assisting him on most of the tours. Michael loves life and seeks at all times to share his love of travel, as well as his travel brand of joie de vivre, with his fellow travellers, who become lifelong friends. Mandi was born practically with a backpack on her back and a head filled with dreams of adventure. Given both her parents working in the industry, it s no surprise that Mandi went on to complete studies in travel and marketing before jetting off to explore the world. She later returned to South Africa where she worked in the family travel businesses Titch Travel & Titch Tours for 12 years before being appointed as MD of Titch Tours back in 2008. In addition she holds the appointment as MD of Travel Concepts, as part of the Concepts Collection Group. Mandi is married to her Italian husband Federico and they have 2 children, Gabriella and Claudio. Mandi promises to share her love of travel and all places foreign!

Indonesian Tour 16 30 May 2018 16 MAY DEPART SOUTH AFRICA BALI Fly from South Africa, overnight to Bali, Indonesia. 17 MAY ARRIVE BALI (1 night) D We arrive at the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, where we will be met and transferred to the Udayana Kingfisher Eco Lodge. Depending on arrival time, birders will be offered a bird walk either in the gardens of the lodge where there are a number of walks or at the Nusa Dua. There will be a welcome dinner and briefing in the evening. 18 MAY BALI - LABUAN BAJO (3 nights) BLD Depart for Labuan Bajo. KOMODO ISLANDS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE. After an early breakfast, we will leave for the flight to Labuan Bajo where you will be met and taken to the Bajo Komodo Eco Lodge, arriving for lunch, followed by a short siesta. This lodge was designed and built by Meryl Wilson in 2002 and is considered locally an icon of the town. At around 15h00 you will proceed on a snorkelling visit to one of the nearby islands to test your snorkelling equipment. Then back to the Lodge for dinner and briefing for the program of the next day. 19 MAY KOMODO ISLAND AND THE KOMODO DRAGON BLD Komodo Island and The Komodo Dragon. KOMODOS and SNORKELLING After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the harbour for your boat to Komodo Island, the main and most beautiful island of the Komodo group of islands. We purposely choose a slow boat as it is very relaxing to move slowly through reefs of the Sea of Flores, past many islands and the large island of Rinca on your left, arriving at around 09h30 (depending on currents), passing the world-famous Pink Beach on your way. You will be briefed by a park warden and then immediately proceed on a walk to look for Komodos and other animals; you should also see a number of bird species. Then lunch back on the boat and proceed for snorkelling on The Pink Beach. This is a fabulous place and is world-renowned for its biodiversity; however the current can be strong and you must take local advice where to swim; then back to Labuan Bajo and dinner at the Lodge, meeting and briefing from our birding guide, Sam Rabenak.

Indonesian Tour 16 30 May 2018 20 MAY BIRDS OF WEST FLORES BLD Today you can choose between two different tours : HOBBITS or Flores Man. There is an early start and this tour will be of interest to anthropologists and anyone interested in the work of the Leakeys in Africa. Also it will show people the West Manggerai district of West Flores from the coast to the hills past MBeliling into up to the hill town of Ruteng. It entails a 4 5 hours transfer in both directions will plenty of stops for coffee and photos. On location, there will be a guide who will explain the history of what is known about Flores Man in an area where digging occurred. There will be a minimum of walking. BIRDING in MBeliling. This is also an early start and we go first to the village of Melo (45 minutes to one hour drive) at the foot of Mt MBeliling. Your guide (Sam Rabenak) will then take you on a bird walk into the forest and hills of the area. At around midday you will drive to Lake Sano Nggoang- about an hour away, for a restful lunch. After lunch, Sam will take you for a gentle birding walk around the lake; at dusk he will attempt to call the owls in, afterwards returning to the lodge for supper. 21 MAY KELIMUTU CRATER LAKES ECO LODGE (2 nights) BLD Kelimutu Crater lakes Eco Lodge. After an early breakfast, you will take a flight to Ende in the east of the island of Flores, where Patris, your guide will pick you up and will start your travel into the mountains to the lodge, stopping briefly at a traditional village and a market. You will arrive at this beautiful lodge in a valley with a river flowing through under Mount Kelimutu, for a late lunch and briefing on this part of the tour. After a siesta you are free to roam the lodge grounds and the valley, either just walking or birding. You will see the rice fields near the lodge. This lodge has been designed and built by Meryl Wilson in two phases, the first being 11 rooms finished in 2010 and a further 11 rooms finished in 2014. Its beautiful location has been praised by many. Dinner and briefing from the guide.

Indonesian Tour 16 30 May 2018 22 MAY THE FABULOUS CRATER LAKES OF CHANGING COLOURS AT DAWN BLD The fabulous crater lakes of changing colours at dawn. THE LAKES OF CHANGING COLOURS and IKATS. One of the main aims of this tour is to see the Kelimutu Lakes at dawn, a magical experience. You start very early at 04h00 with a cup coffee in hand and drive with your guide, to the crater lakes (around 19km) through the base of the Kelimutu National Park. You then walk to the lakes through woodland, where hopefully you will hear the beautiful song of The Bare Throated Whistler, arriving at the top just before dawn. See the sunrise, at the top site with a coffee, see the lakes (a magical moment), while just enjoying the whole scene and environment, after walking to view all the three lakes. You then return via the park to hear and see the birds and return to the Lodge for a late pancake breakfast. After breakfast, you are taken into the village of Moni to view the market and local products. After lunch and a short siesta, you are taken to see a local village where weavers prepare ikats (weavings), using centuries old techniques with pure colours; back to the lodge for dinner followed by a local dance group to show local song and dance briefing for the next day s programme. 23 MAY ENDE - BALI (1 night ) BLD Fly from Ende to Bali. After a leisurely breakfast, you will leave for Ende to catch the midday flight to Bali. En route there will be opportunities for photographs of the scenery. In Bali you will be transferred back to the Udayana Kingfisher Eco Lodge for an early dinner, briefing and rest. Also you can pick up any luggage and/or laundry left there for the next part of the trip. You can also leave laundry there. 24 MAY BALI - ONTO BORNEO (2 nights) BLD Borneo KLOTOKS: You will have a very early start for flight to Surabaya in Java and then Pangkalan Bun in Borneo, arriving in around 13h00. After meeting your guide, you will be transported to Kumai to your klotok (river boat) for lunch and start the magical trip up The Sekonyer River to The Rimba Orangutan Eco Lodge. On the way you should start seeing your first primates. If the plane is on time, you may be in time to see your first orangutans at the Tandjung Harapan Feeding Station. Then onto the lodge, for a welcome drink and briefing by your guide, followed by dinner.

Indonesian Tour 16 30 May 2018 25 MAY CAMP LEAKEY BLD Camp Leakey ORANGUTANS, PROBOSCIS MONKEYS and OTHER PRIMATES: For Birders, a pre breakfast Bird walk is suggested. Then, you take your river boat to famous Camp Leakey to view orangutans in their natural habitat along the river or at Camp Leakey; other primates seen will be Proboscis Monkeys, Gibbons and Long Tailed Macaques, Silverbacked Langurs and you will see many birds, crocodiles, pigs and monitors. Camp Leakey (named after the famous Oxford-based scientist Louis Leakey), one of the homes of Professor Birute Galdik. Camp Leakey is allegedly the longest biological, documented scientific experiment on the globe. Galdikas is one of Leakey s golden angels, the others being Dianne Fossey (Gorilla scientist - deceased) and Jane Goodall (the Chimpanzee scientist). If you are lucky, you may meet her. On the way home, if the evening is clear, you should have a great sunset with the Proboscis Monkeys and hopefully Hornbills. Without the hard and long term work of Birute Galdikas, we would not have the Tandjung Puting National Park which would have been taken over by illegal palm oil and other businesses. We and the world owe her and great debt! 26 MAY CAMP TANGGUI AND TANDJUNG HARAPAN (2 nights) BLD Camp Tanggui and Tandjung Harapan BUTTERFLIES and VILLAGERS OF TANDJUNG HARAPAN: For Birders, again, early morning bird walk, breakfast and then a visit to Tanggui (a second Orangutan release centre) in an area famous for butterflies. After the viewing, you will proceed on a hike around the area, suitable for those interested in birds, butterflies and trees. This is an opportunity to study the area in a relaxed fashion. You will have lunch back at the lodge and proceed to Tandjung Harapan (the third release centre) for the afternoon viewing. You will then return to the Lodge for a short rest and thereafter proceed for an evening dinner on the river with the fireflies. The latter is a terrific experience. 27 MAY BORNEA-BALI (2 nights) BLD Fly from Borneo to Bali. Enjoy breakfast at Rimba lodge before boarding our klotok. Take a leisurely boat ride before returning to Pankanlan Bun Airport through the port city of Kumai. Revive all your senses and let them retain the magic of Tanjung Puting National Park. Listen to the sounds of Kumai s all day loudspeakers emanating from tall buildings, where swift nests are being commercially harvested. The swift saliva is used for bird s nest soup and can reach 13 million Rupiah and more per Kg. Indonesia is the biggest supplier and the trade has led to certain swift colonies being critically threatened. Fly back to Bali. In Bali, you will be transferred back to the Udayana Kingfisher Eco Lodge for a relaxing dinner and a night swim at the pool.

Indonesian Tour 16 30 May 2018 28 MAY BALI BLD After a relaxing breakfast, a shopping trip will be offered to locations dependent on the shopping needs; lunch and a siesta followed by an evening visit to the Uluwatu Temple (one of the six major Bali temples) and a viewing the famous and very popular Monkey or Kecak Dance. For those who have not seen this dance, it is a must. The dance tells part of the Ramayana story through men s voices with no music; the rhythm of the dance is almost African a very exciting way to end your tour of Indonesia. 29 MAY DEPART BALI B Enjoy a relaxing morning and proceed to the airport in the early afternoon, for a flight home. 30 MAY ARRIVE SOUTH AFRICA Arrive home.
