OPPORTUNITY AND ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL
BELVOIR A PRIORY ACADEMY 01 WELCOME TO THE PRIORY BELVOIR ACADEMY Thank you for expressing an interest in the Priory Belvoir Academy and the excellent educational resources and opportunities we provide for our students. The choice of where to educate your child is one of the most important decisions you will take and we look forward to supporting you in making it. The Priory Belvoir Academy is part of The Priory Federation of Academies Trust. The Trust s mission is To improve the life chances of our students so they become true citizens of the world through the core values of Wisdom, Curiosity, Generosity, Courage and Passion. The Priory Belvoir Academy continues to flourish and build on its collective and individual successes. Increasingly, students and their families are attracted by the school s unique rural environment in the Vale of Belvoir and the personalised approach which a smaller setting offers. We know our students well and relationships between students and staff are superb. Our distinctive motto, Opportunity and Achievement for All, underpins our ethos where a strong sense of ambition is strengthened by a caring philosophy. Each individual is an important part of our family that works for the benefit of all. We work hard to promote high self-esteem in everyone, together with a sense of responsibility and community. Expectations of achievement, behaviour and uniform are established clearly and consistently within the academy. Students, from the day they arrive, are encouraged to participate fully in all that we offer. We are a consistently high performing academy and continue to record excellent examination results. At the Priory Belvoir Academy, we strive to teach lessons to develop the excitement of learning, the rewards of personal challenge and the importance of helping others. In this way, students leave the Academy as well prepared, happy, confident and independent young people. Mr L S Newton Headteacher
02 BELVOIR A PRIORY ACADEMY SUCCESSFUL LEARNING The Priory Belvoir Academy has established a tradition of academic excellence for students of all abilities. Our highly qualified and supportive staff ensure that all students achieve their very best. All students are set challenging aspirational targets. Progress reports highlight the progress a student is making towards their targets and these are reported home each term. Students are supported by their Form Tutors and their Head of Year as well as their classroom teachers. Where students are not making expected progress, targeted intervention and support is put into place. We believe homework is an important tool to reinforce learning and to achieve future academic success. Homework is set to ensure key academic concepts are consolidated and we expect it to be completed to the highest of standards. All students feel confident to learn and feel valued as an individual.
BELVOIR A PRIORY ACADEMY 05 PERSONAL ENRICHMENT The personal development of every individual is something that the Priory Belvoir Academy prides itself on. We understand that within our talented student body we have individuals with different needs, different tastes and different aspirations. We have created an environment in which individuals flourish. Opportunities are endless. Our specialist facilities, such as our dedicated drama studio, music recording studio, fitness suite and extensive sporting grounds, give students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of pursuits both within and outside the curriculum. We believe that extra-curricular activities are an essential part of the educational experience. Our students are, at every phase, strongly encouraged to participate in these activities as part of their broader educational life to prepare them for life beyond school. We encourage a sense of belonging to the wider community and develop a competitive spirit by assigning all students to one of four houses. This provides opportunities for sporting, musical, artistic and even culinary contributions as well as recognising academic achievement. Cups and certificates are awarded for individual and team successes and all students are encouraged to participate and do their bit towards the eventual announcement of House Champions at the final assembly of the school year.
Students and their families are attracted by the Academy s unique smaller secondary setting and rural environment. BELVOIR A PRIORY ACADEMY 07
BELVOIR A PRIORY ACADEMY 09 We have an inclusive and aspirational culture where our staff believe that all students can succeed. Students also raise significant amounts of money for local and national charities, often chosen by them, allowing them to feel empowered to influence change while encouraging them to look at life beyond the classroom. All students have the opportunity to participate in trips and residential visits during their time at the Priory Belvoir Academy including a Year 7 Visit to the Priory Federation s French Centre des Etoiles. To develop leadership skills, many of our students take up positions of responsibility while at the school, such as becoming a Form Captain, or becoming a member of the School Council, Sports Leadership Programme or the Prefect Team, while in Year 11 they can also be elected into the prestigious positions of Head Boy or Head Girl.
