Welcome Parents! Welcome to the Gymnastics summer camp programs. We re glad you ve chosen to spend some memorable moments with us this summer. We look forward to providing an exciting summer, filled with tremendous summertime experiences that only the YMCA can offer. The YMCA offers a healthy, safe and fun environment where positive interaction with peers and adults help build strong character. Whether you are new to the YMCA Summer Camp programs or a seasoned Y camper, we are pleased to welcome you to the 2017 gymnastics summer camp programs. This handbook has been created as a reference guide for both parents and children. It contains vital information and policies about our summer programs. Your child s safety is a top priority and we take this responsibility very seriously. Please take the time with your child to read and review the entire handbook. If you have any questions, please call Gymnastics Director at 941-375-9121. YMCA SUMMER GYMNASTICS CAMP PROGRAMS Gymnastics Camp Programs located: SKY Gymnastics Center (located next SKY Academy & the basketball gym) Gymnastics Camp Program Hours: Full-day Gymnastics, Rock Climbing, Cheerleading, Dance Camps 9:00am-5:00pm Half-day Gymnastics Camp 9:00am-12:30pm Half-day Rock Climbing Camp 1:30pm-4:30pm Half-day Cheerleading Camp 1:30pm-4:30pm Half-day Dance Camp 1:30pm-4:30pm Preschoolers in Motion Camp Mon/Wed/Fri Only 9:30am-12:00pm 2

Payments must be made the week prior your child plans on attending. A $10 late fee will be charged to ALL registrations taken after 6:00pm on the Friday before the week you want to attend. Payments can be made by cash, check, or Visa/MasterCard/Discover. REFUND/MAKE-UP POLICY: No refunds will be issued for missed days in a camp week. Refunds will only be issued due to illness accompanied with a doctor s note or due to moving or relocation. Registration for a camp can be transferred to another week or a credit will be issued to your account. No refunds will be issued once the camp week has begun. *Early drop off / Late pick up: We offer early drop off and late pick up for FREE! Drop is at 7:00am and late pick up goes until 6:00pm. Drop off Procedure: Drop off for Full-day camp start at 7:00am if needed or at 9:00am when camp starts. Half-day campers must be dropped off at the start time of the registered camp. Early drop off/late pick up does not apply to half-day campers. 3

Sign your child in at the sign-in table in the camp room. Your full signature and the time arriving are required on our sign-in sheets each day when your child arrives. We encourage all children to be in attendance by the start time of their registered camp so all programs can start on time and attendance will be taken. P.M. Pick up Procedure: Pick up time starts at 4:00pm. A full signature and the time of pick up are required on our sign out sheets each day. ALL persons removing children from the program MUST have Photo ID available at ALL times- We will ID everyone so please be prepared to show it. The YMCA staff may rotate the responsibility of sign out, and may not recognize you by sight. If someone other than yourself will be picking up your child, please notify the program Director ahead of time. Please inform everyone on your child s pick up list of this policy. **Note: Appropriate legal paperwork is required to be on file with the YMCA when the custodial parent requests the center not to release the child to the other parent. Late Pick Up YMCA camp programs close promptly at 6:00 p.m. If your child is not picked up by 6:00pm, a late fee of $1.00 per minute after 6:00 p.m. must be paid in CASH to the YMCA employee(s). The late fee is in place to compensate staff members for their time. If you know you will be late, please make every attempt to make alternate pick up arrangements and contact the gymnastics office. It is often stressful for a child when parents are late, so staff will make every effort to contact parents/emergency contacts to ensure timely pickup. CODE OF CONDUCT Discipline/Behavior Modification Form: YMCA staff is trained to use a positive approach to discipline. However if a child is extremely disruptive, YMCA policy is to notify parent/authorized person via a behavior form at sign out. Your signature on the form is required, acknowledging receipt; the forms are kept on site at the YMCA. 1 st offense- written or verbal warning 2 nd offense written warning 3 rd offense may result in suspension from participation in the program Two (2) suspensions may result in termination from the YMCA program. Zero Tolerance policy covers the following behaviors: Any intentional physical abuse towards other child(ren) Bullying (verbal of physical) of any kind Any threats made towards child(ren) Stealing or damaging other children s property or YMCA property. Parents are also financially responsible for the repair or replacement of stolen or damaged property. Bringing any weapon to the YMCA Any physical or verbal abuse/threats to staff (may result in an immediate termination from the program). 4

It is our hope that we can work together to prevent your child from being suspended or terminated from the program. The Director may request a conference with you if there are significant behavior problems with your child but the YMCA reserves the right to remove a child from any program due to behavioral or other concerns. In the event that this may occur there will be no refund given. Grievance Policy: At the Y, we strive to positively impact the life and well being of every child in our care. For any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact the Gymnastics Program Director at (941)375-9121. Parent Notification Form: Used as a communication tool between YMCA staff and parents. Used to notify parents of behavior concerns or other incidents. Your signature on the form is required, acknowledging receipt; the forms are kept on site at YMCA. YMCA Code of Conduct: Venice YMCA staff/volunteers are NOT ALLOWED to: Socialize or associate with program participants outside of YMCA hours (i.e. babysitting, private lessons, exchange of phone numbers/email/facebook etc.) Transport program participants in personal vehicles. YMCA Gymnastics Staff: The SKY Family YMCA strives to hire qualified, trained staff to conduct our YMCA summer camp programs. Staff is comprised of high school, college students and recent graduates, school teachers and professional full-time YMCA staff. All YMCA employees are: Background screened by local, state, and federal agencies. Trained and Certified in CPR and first aid. Required to attend and complete mandatory state and YMCA trainings. USAG certified in Gymnastics Fundamentals of Instruction. Americans with Disabilities Act: YMCA is in compliance with ADA YMCA does not discriminate against children unless their presence poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others. The program will make reasonable modifications to policies and practices to accommodate children with special needs. Facility is fully accessible to persons with disabilities. YMCA Supervisory Staff will make individual assessments whether the program can meet the needs of a child without fundamentally altering the program. 5

Inclusion Policy: YMCA does not discriminate in our admission policies based upon race, sex, religion, place of national origin or physical/mental abilities. Children with special needs will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. Children whose limitations create a safety issue or unreasonable risk of harm to themselves, others or property may not be accommodated. Please notify Director if your child is under stress or may require a higher level of supervision How do we group our camps-by age or ability?: Children are in appropriate groups based on age and ability level per camp activity. We do our best to put campers into groups of like-skill levels and ability as well as age or grade. We will not put a 1 st or 2 nd grader in a group with upper elementary or middle schoolers even if skill level is equal. Other YMCA Camps or activities: If your camper will be participating in any YMCA Camps or activities this summer other than Camp Hanchey at the Youth Center during camp time and you will need the YMCA staff to transport your child: Contact the Director of the OTHER program to arrange transportation to and from the Summer Camp location. Submit written notice to Summer Camp staff giving us permission to release your child to the other participating program. Your child will not be released without authorization. YMCA Summer Closings: The Venice YMCA reserves the right to close for: 4 th of July Extreme weather Facility emergencies or unexpected situations PROPER CLOTHING PER CAMP ACTIVITY: Children should wear: Gymnastics Camp: Leotards are mandatory, shorts are optional. No skirts, socks, or tights. Rock Climbing Camp: Athletic t-shirts (no tank tops), elastic waistband shorts, socks and sneakers. Cheerleading Camp: Athletic t-shirts (no tank tops), elastics waistband shorts, socks and sneakers. Dance Camp: Leotards or athletic t-shirts and elastics waistband shorts. Preschoolers-in-Motion Camp: Leotards are mandatory (no skirts, tights or socks) Full-day campers bring: Swimsuit(girls must wear a one-piece) and towel, flip flops, a change of clothes after swimming Sunscreen is strongly encouraged!- but is a topical lotion, YMCA staff is NOT permitted to apply sunscreen on children (spray sunscreen is recommended). Swim goggles, ear plugs if needed. 6

Personal Property: All belongings brought to the YMCA should be labeled with your child s name. Parents if you need to get into contact with your child, you must call the gymnastics office phone number at 941-375-9121 and the staff will get them or relay a message. Some children enrolled in our programs are not permitted to be photographed; therefore, cameras MAY NOT BE USED AT ANY TIME. Any violation of this policy will result in confiscation of devices which will be returned to the parent at the end of the day. DO NOT BRING TO CAMP: Cell phones and other electronic devices are NOT PERMITTED at our camps. Children may bring cell phones but upon arrival phones must be turned off and placed inside their bag or lunchbox. Cell phones will be taken away and stored in the office if a child is found using their phone during camp. The child s phone will be returned to the parent at sign out. The following items are NOT PERMITTED: o Electronic devices (phones, cameras, ipads, ipods, Kindles, etc) o Personal toys or stuffed animals o Playing or trading cards (Magic, Pokemon, etc.) o Guns, knives or weapons of any kind (real or play ) The SKY Family YMCA or staff members are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items brought from home. Lost and Found: Kept in the corner of the lobby in a blue bucket. Please check often! Unclaimed items will be disposed or donated every 3 weeks. Lunches & Snacks: The YMCA will provide a nutritious lunch each day FREE of charge for Full-day campers. Or you may pack a lunch, healthy and nutritious lunches are preferred. Full-day campers get a morning and afternoon snack break. Please pack extra food for snack breaks or snacks can be purchased in the gymnastics pro-shop. Sodas or Candy are not permitted. Please note ALL FOOD allergies on your child s information card. We DO NOT refrigerate or microwave lunches or provide eating utensils. Glass containers are NOT permitted. Please label all lunch boxes/containers with a permanent marker. Label the OUTSIDE of the lunchbox many lunchboxes look alike. Swimming: Children will swim everyday if registered for Full-day camp. YMCA reserves the right to suspend swimming activities for disciplinary or safety reasons. Children will be swim tested each Monday and given a pool orientation. 7

Weaker or non-swimmers will be kept in the shallow end of the pool and/or receive a floatation device. Certified YMCA lifeguards and camp counselors supervise children at the pool. Children are NOT permitted to take full showers (in the locker room). Again, please provide your child with protection from sun (sunscreen, hat, shirts etc). Females must be in one piece swimsuits, per new YMCA gymnastics summer camp policy. Illness/Health: To keep all children as healthy as possible, we ask you to keep children at home if there are signs of: Lice Fever Pain Frequent coughing Conjunctivitis Vomiting Diarrhea Excessive nasal discharge Communicable disease (strep throat, chicken pox, ring worm etc). Please notify the Director immediately so that other parents may be notified of the exposure. If a child exhibits any of these or other symptoms during our care: 1. We will contact you/alternate persons to pick up your child immediately. 2. Allow the child to rest in our designated sick area located away from the campers. Head Lice: Head lice are common due to the climate we live in and the nature of children: We do provide routine head checks If found with nits or actual lice, you will be contacted to immediately pick up your child. Your child will be isolated from other children until you arrive. These children may return to the program ONLY after YMCA staff has checked your child s head. YMCA has a no nit policy (posted in office) Preventive measures include; reminding children not to share brushes, hats, hair accessories and long hair should be worn in a ponytail. Lice like CLEAN HAIR so using gel or hairspray helps to keep the lice from attaching to the hair. First Aid & Emergency Policy: When an accident occurs: YMCA staff will administer basic first aid. Minor injuries will be treated soap, water, ice, bandages etc. All injuries are documented on an accident report and are presented to parent at sign out. Accident reports require your signature and are kept on-site at the YMCA. In case of serious injury; YMCA staff will make a decision to call 911/EMS and then the parent. 8

If injury is not life threatening but we feel it requires medical attention and parents cannot be reached, we will either contact 911/EMS or transport the child to the nearest emergency room. Medication: YMCA does not administer any form of medication. Do not put any medication in your child s lunch box or backpack. Your child may bring sunscreen in appropriate original containers. Please Label with your child s name. Inhalers/Epi-pens may be provided and must be properly identified and will be kept locked in the office and/or first aid kit. Staff is trained to assist children using these items, if necessary. Speed Limits: To ensure the safety of all children in YMCA programs, please respect posted stop signs, speed limit signs etc. The unposted speed limit on YMCA property is 10 mph. Please be cautious while driving through any program parking lot children are everywhere. Non-smoking environment/campus: The Venice YMCA is a non-smoking campus. No person will be permitted to use tobacco products inside or outside any YMCA facility or facilities being used by the YMCA. Students and other persons under 18 may not possess or display tobacco products at any time on YMCA properties, in vehicles or while participating in sponsored events. Tobacco product is defined as: cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, etc. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the Gymnastics Director of the SKY Gymnastics Center directly at 941-375-9121. Gymnastics Center office hours are Monday Friday 9:00am- 6:00pm. The SKY Family YMCA front desk can also answer any registrations questions. The YMCA front desk hours are 5:00am 9:30pm and 7:00am-5:00pm Saturday & Sunday and the phone number is 941-492-9622. 9
