Accommodation open day Welcome to the University of Birmingham Accomodation open day We hope that you enjoy this opportunity to view the accommodation we have on offer. The following comments were made by visitors last year: Lovely to meet and talk to other students it gave a real perspective to student life, gave good insight into things I may not have considered before. Speaking to other students reassured me that I had made the right choices for accommodation and the University of Birmingham overall. I had a brilliant day, very helpful students and staff. It helped me make my final decisions about my Uni choices and accommodation choices. Accommodation open day enabling you to make informed choices and decisions To ensure that you are familiar with all the accommodation it is essential that you take this opportunity to view all the sites. Although, under the Freshers Guarantee Scheme we will make every effort to offer you one of your preferences, unfortunately we cannot guarantee this.

Getting the most from the day You can choose where you wish to start your day. A regular coach service will be running from all sites, however to assist you on planning your day here are 2 different itineraries. Starting Point : Pritchatts Park Village You can walk to Pritchatts Park Village from all car parks, this will be signposted. At Pritchatts Park Village please view all accommodation. From Pritchatts Park Village take the green route coach to Jarratt Hall, Victoria Hall and Metchley Hall. Returning to Pritchatts Park Village you can then take the red route coach to The Vale Village incorporating Liberty Gardens Liberty Living (The Beeches). Accompanied walking tours to The Vale Village from Pritchatts Park Village at 11.00, 12.00, 13.00 and 14.00. Starting Point : The Vale Village You can walk to the Vale Village from all car parks, this will be signposted. You can then choose to catch the red route coach (outside Shackleton) or take the walking route to Pritchatts Park Village. Accommodation Information Talk at 13.00, Upper Rio s@the Vale and The Study Zone@Pritchatts Park Village at 14.00.

Applying for accommodation Please register and apply for University accommodation at www.birmingham.ac.uk/accommodation which includes our 360 Tours of the accommodation. You will require your University student ID number and an email address. University ID numbers consists of 6 or 7 digits and are quoted at the top of correspondence letters from the Admissions Office. The deadlines to apply under the guarantee schemes are as follows: Undergraduate Home and EU students 31 May 2013 Undergraduate International students 31 July 2013 Postgraduate EU and International students 31 July 2013 The Freshers Guarantee Scheme does not apply to UK based Postgraduates or students bringing their family or partner. For a separate application form please email unimanagedaccom@ contacts.bham.ac.uk The University has a limited number of managed houses that may be suitable. These will not be open to view on the Accommodation open day but appointments can be made for another day.

Accommodation offers are made on a date order basis, so it is advisable to apply as soon as possible. Some sites are inevitably oversubscribed, therefore first choice accommodation cannot always be guaranteed and we will offer an alternative. Therefore we do recommend that you visit all of our accommodation. If your application falls outside the conditions of the Freshers Guarantee Scheme (late, clearing and insurance applicants), you are still encouraged to apply for University accommodation. In practice Accommodation Services is usually able to accommodate some applicants that do not fall into the Freshers Guarantee Scheme. If we cannot offer University accommodation you will be advised in September 2013 of other options open to you. You must undertake to remain in your University accommodation for the whole of your first year here. You will be required to sign a legally binding contract and pay a 550 prepayment before you can move in to your room. If you are a Gap year student arriving in September 2013 accommodation contracts will be sent out around June 2013. If you will be taking a gap year until 2014 15 then please apply for accommodation in 2014. Amending accommodation applications For those students who have already submitted their online application form and wish to make changes to their preferences after the Accommodation open day, just log back into your online application.

Further information Liberty Gardens Liberty Living (The Beeches), Metchley Hall, Victoria Hall Accommodation with third party providers In order to maintain the Freshers Guarantee Scheme the University has entered into agreements with private providers, such as Liberty Gardens Liberty Living (The Beeches), Victoria Hall and Metchley Hall to supplement our own stock. These bed spaces form part of the Freshers Guarantee Scheme and you may be allocated one of these rooms in your first year. These providers work very closely with the University to ensure that the cost and range of facilities and support provided is similar to what you would receive in University accommodation. Accommodation Services will manage your application but you will receive your offer of accommodation which will include a contract from the private provider. Whilst every effort will be made to offer you one of your preferences we are unable to guarantee it so you are advised to view all types of accommodation.
