PROVO LODGE No.849 October 2015 PROVO, UTAH VOLUME 69, ISSUE 5 EXALTED RULERS MESSAGE Dear Members, Widows, and Friends The Patio screen on the West end of the upper Patio has finally been installed. It will keep the West end cooler and blocks the afternoon sun and will help keep the heat in when the weather gets cooler. Thanks to Scott Adams for getting this project done and also thank you to Greg Shaw for hanging it. The Boy Scouts have completed the Flag depository for worn, torn and faded flag. It will be installed out front on the east side of the turn around facing University Avenue. This is something that the Boy Scouts and the Elks should well be proud of. We need to let the public know that it is here and that they can drop off their torn, worn and faded flags off at the Lodge. I would to thank John Belvedere for getting this project started, Thank you John. At the start of this year we had 400 members and we have now dropped to 398 as of August 21,2015. We need to start bringing in new members. I have offered $100.00 to the individual who sponsor's the most new members by the end of December. This would almost pay your dues for next year. The Rajun Cajun was a great first time event and we look forward to doing it again. A lot of people said that they wished they would have attended and are looking forward to the next one. A big thanks goes out to Lance Breaud, Jeff Hartly and Scott Waters. The raffle and auction brought in over $900.00 for the Vietnam Moving Wall that will be displayed in the North parking lot on September 15-19th 2016. Our annual Halloween Party will be on October 31,2015 from 6:00 pm to 1:00 am. The Kids Halloween Party will be the week before on the 24th from 11-1pm. Student Scholarships applications are now available on line @ www.elks.org. All applications must be turned in by December 04,2015 No exceptions. If you have any questions please talk to Linda Gaines at the Lodge. I will also post Student Scholarship deadlines on the Lodge bulletin board. At fall meeting we got approval to bring back Friday night dinners. Our first dinner will be on October 09,2015 and reservation will be required. Dinners will be twice a month for the next 6 months. At the end of the 6 months trial period if the membership is supporting the dinners and we are not losing money we will continue them. Remember you asked the board to bring back the dinners now it is up to you as members to support it or it will be shut down. Be sure to check the Lodge face book page and fliers in the Lodge. I would like to thank the people who came in to help with the Lodge cleanup. We got a lot done but still have some cleanup still to do. We will be asking again for help and will announce a date when the last of the clean up will be done. Please volunteer. Please welcome our three newest members into our family Mike Barney, Randall Hall and Jack Rich. Fraternally, Frank Robinette Your Exalted Ruler 2014-15 LADIES OF ELKS Hi ladies, What a beautiful fall season this is going to be. October is a fun month and the starting off the holidays. Thank you for the flowers, cards and the kind thoughts about my mother s passing. Mom will be greatly missed. I attended fall meetings. With our own Ada Nelson as President of Utah State L.O.E. taking charge of a great meeting. She held a raffle for a gift basket as one of her projects of the year and it turned out that a gift certificate for $20.00 was auctioned off seven times, making $710.00 going to several BPOE charities. (What great fun). Our September meeting was well attended; we played a game at the social hour to get acquainted with each other. Our dinner was chicken croissant sandwich with potato salad, and peach Sundaes. Thank to my Charles for his homemade peach topping, shopping for everything and to Monique, Brenda, and Linda for all they do. We also celebrated the summer birthdays and everyone received a gift. Out little raffle was won by Joan. We were happy to see so many new and old friends. We have been challenged by out state L.O.E. to reach out to all ladies in out lodge to join our organization. So we are inviting every lady to come to at least one meeting (2 nd Wednesday of the month) bring a friend and all we ask is for you to give us a chance. We need new people and fresh ideas. Call me 801-367-4206 or tell anyone in the L.O.E. and any guest you are bringing. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU. Continued on Page 1
