The ride ticket winners last month were Speedo, Linda Hapner, and Glen Oelrich. Congrats to Sharon Derby on the game prize and Jim Berry for winning last month s trivia question. The 50/50 winner was Sharon Derby. The trivia question this month is Rubber engine mounts first came into use at Harley Davidson in 1980. Prior to that time, rigid mounting had been the norm. What was the first Harley Davidson motorcycle to have the new mounting system? Page!1

Happy Holidays!! Director s Saddle This year has gone by so fast!! Hard to imagine that the holidays are here already. What a great year we ve had so far. As we approach these last couple of months I want to remind everybody that we s?ll have some cool events scheduled and I hope that you can join us whenever possible. I know you ve heard me talk about this before but I believe that it s worth men?oning again. One of the things that makes HOG Chapters so invi?ng is the fact that Harley riders are such charitable people!! For example, on September 29 th, SNHOG par?cipated in the Vegas Strong Ride which started at LVHD and split at Sahara Blvd! There were approximately 640 bikes on that ride and the first 43 bikes that lead the pack (other than the police escort) were SNHOG members! The amount raised from the Vegas Strong ride was $75,000. A great big Thank you to Larry Preston for doing such a great job in ge^ng dona?ons that allowed our chapter and the police escort, to carry the 58 flags and enabling us to represent the vic?ms of Oct. 1. Also a huge Thank you to our local Harley Dealers for their support!!!! Then, SNHOG par?cipated in the Ride for Kids or Pediatric Brain Tumor ride which had several hundred bikes and bikers. If you were one of the SNHOG members on that ride, then you know that we received free?ckets for the AIM EXPO at the Mandalay Bay. Our chapter also raised $1630 for the program!!! Way to go!! Keep in mind that Saturday Nov 3 rd is the Na?on of Patriots Presenta?on and Sunday the 4 th is our LOH Progressive dinner. Check the newslefer calendar and watch for email blasts for more informa?on. Also, we have 2 more overnighters for this year. We are going to Sierra Vista (Tombstone area) on Nov 10 th and then our final overnighter is to Solvang Ca on Nov 30 th. These are double overnighters and will be a great?me. Please be sure to get room reserva?ons as both hotels are booking up fast!! Also, Kathy has arranged an LOH event on Dec 8 th with Kelly from LVMP Motor division to do a special LOH Safety day. Keep in mind that this event is open to lady riders and passengers! Check the calendar for the correct?me and loca?on. At this?me every year, your Board of Directors starts asking for a couple of things, number 1 is that we are reques?ng applica?ons for the new Board. This includes ALL of the posi?ons. This is a great way to really get involved with the goings on of the chapter and allows you to get a different perspec?ve of HOG in general. And number 2 we are looking for ideas from the chapter members on next years Day Rides, Overnighters, Meet and Eats and other social events. With this being said, I have asked Jason (Tiki) to put together a survey and email it to all chapter members. Please remember that this is designed for you to submit ideas not a gripe session! LOL! And as a final note, Dec. 15 th is our annual NCCF Toy Run and we encourage everyone to par?cipate by bringing an unwrapped gij or gij card to LVHD or Red Rock or by bringing gijs on the day of the run. This is an amazing and heartwarming event that I promise, you won t want to miss. Along with our toy run of course is our annual Christmas Party. This party belongs to you the chapter and I highly recommend that you and a guest afend! Tickets are $55 per person and includes buffet dinner, music, dancing and of course, door prizes. Party will be held at the Sun Coast from 6pm 10pm. I hope to see you all there!!!! Enjoy and Be Safe!!!!! Your 2018 Director - Randy Page!2

Road Captain Article A short while back I was riding in the *Scout posi?on. During a gas stop I was approached by a member who asked why I was riding ahead of the group. It occurred to me that while the guys in the Orange Shirts are a visible part of every ride, what they do, may not be understood by all. The Road Captains are tasked with the planning, organiza?on and leading chapter rides. Their primary responsibility is the safety of the members and the group. All Road Captains are officers of the Hog Chapter and are designated by their yellow ropes. All current RC s were former chapter members who applied for their posi?on and had to meet a specific set of qualifica?ons. The training is done by current experienced qualified RC s and is ongoing. RC s have mandatory classroom and road training several?mes yearly as well as monthly RC mee?ngs. You will always see many RC s at the advanced rider courses periodically offered around town. You might no?ce that at most stops and certainly at the end of each ride the RC s gather together to cri?que the ride. We are constantly evalua?ng ourselves and talk about things that need to be improved during each leg of the ride. There are 5 primary posi?ons as a RC on a chapter ride: *Scout - Rides ahead of the group, staying within radio range. How far ahead of the group is dependent on the terrain and condi?ons of the ride. Primary task is to report upcoming road condi?ons, road hazards, emergency vehicles and anything that might affect the safety or comfort of the ride. Reports directly to the Ride Lead. Ride Lead - Rides in the lej track at the head of the group. The Ride Lead oversees the ride. They are responsible for assigning the RC posi?ons for the ride and direc?ng the group safely from start to finish of ride. Conducts the pre-ride briefings to the chapter. Rear Lead - Rides at the back of the group. Reports to the Ride Lead and is responsible for maintaining the safety of the group. The eyes for the Lead at the back of the group. Responsible for le^ng the Ride Lead know when it is safe and assists in making lane changes as well as keeping the Ride Lead advised of the condi?on of the group. Also responsible to safely move the **Rabbits from the back of the group to the front of the group as needed. Rear Deuce - Rides in the right track at the rear of the group. Works with the Rear Lead to keep traffic from entering the group (when possible) and make safe lane changes. If you must pull out of the group for an emergency or even a non-emergency this is usually the RC who will stop with you and stay with you un?l you are back on the road or rescued. **Rabbit - Rabbits don t have a set posi?on. They are u?lized by the Lead RC to help move the group safely along the ride. You will ojen see them pull to the side of the road while the group travels in town from stop light to stop light. In the event the group gets split a Rabbit will fall into the Lead or Rear of the secondary group to fulfill the respec?ve role of Ride Lead or Rear Lead. Once the group is joined back together they will fall back into a Rabbit posi?on. The Rabbit will also replace another RC during a ride if that RC is unable to fulfill their role because of equipment failure or some other reason. All RC s are trained for every posi?on. As a RC trainee you are required to learn and pass all evalua?ons for each posi?on. You will no?ce that usually the RC s fulfill a different role on each ride, part of the constant training. RC s are required to maintain CPR and First Aid cer?fica?ons. The RC s are all chapter members first and share the love of riding like everybody else. For myself becoming a Road Captain has been very rewarding. It has required me to par?cipate more and interact with more people than I would have otherwise. Being a RC has taken me completely out of my social comfort zone. The RC s are a great bunch of dedicated riders who want to contribute to the success of the chapter and have fun while doing so. If you don t know them or have any ques?ons, feel free to engage them and ask your ques?ons. If you have comments about the ride please express them so your concerns can be brought up at our briefings. As always, embrace your passion. Riding with the group on chapter rides allows you ride in a controlled safe By: Dale Lea Page!4

Southern Nevada Harley Owners Group Charity Page Nation of Patriots Nation of Patriots is a nonprofit organization that works on a national level to promote the awareness of and financially support the physical, emotional, and economic misfortune that our wounded veterans and their families are living with today and everyday. Every year, beginning in 2009 Nation of Patriots organizes a national effort that pays tribute to and honors, all of America s Armed Forces- Past, Present and Fallen. This effort is known as the Patriot Tour. Traditionally beginning and ending in Wisconsin, the Patriot Tour consists of one American Flag being carried through 48 continental states, escorted by tens of thousands for 110 days straight all in honor of American s Armed Forces members. The Patriot Tour is a vehicle through which we strive to unite Americans beneath the colors of our nation s Flag and behind the men and women who bravely stand up to defend them. This year we will be receiving the Flag on July 3rd and activities are being planned as we escort it until its departure on Saturday July 7 th. To see the entire Patriot Tour and all stops visit their website at www.nationofpatriots.org. Our major fund raiser will be the HealthCare Foundation Golf Tournament on Monday June 25 th at the Red Rock County Club. In October we will ride out to Nellis Air Force Base as a group for a ceremony honoring our recipients. Remember that while the Flag is in our possession, we will ask for a minimum $5 donation each day. Note: Above information taken from each organizations website. Page!18
