Carpathian Convention Working Group on Protection and Sustainable Use Biological and Landscape Diversity (Biodiversity WG) Carpathian Network Protected Areas Steering Committee (CNPA SC) 4-5 October 2010, Belgrade REPORT 1. Opening the meeting The meeting was hosted by the Serbian and Mr. Radislav Momirov (Assistant to the Minister) welcomed the participants and ficially opened the meeting. It was agreed that Mr. Harald Egerer (on behalf the Interim Secretariat the Carpathian Convention Vienna ) served as a chairman. Mr. Egerer thanked the host and summarized recent activities developed within the Carpathian Convention. He informed the participants that the Medium Term Strategy the Carpathian Network Protected Areas (CNPA) has been finalized in the last CNPA SC (Steering Committee) in Poiana Brasov, Romania, ready to be submitted to the Carpathian Convention Implementation Committee (CCIC) and the final version the BIOREGIO Carpathians project proposal has been submitted under the South East Europe Territorial Cooperation Programme in September. He informed the meeting participants also that the Carpathian Convention Protocol on Sustainable Forest Management and the Tourism Protocol have been finalized by the respective Working Groups and will be submitted to the CCIC. He stressed that the next CCIC will be held either in Vienna or in Bratislava on 29/30 November and mentioned some important upcoming events such as the Side Event on CBD Programme Work on Mountains organized by Vienna - at CBD COP 10 in Nagoya, the Workshop on a Strategy for the Carpathian Region (Carpathian Strategy) that will be organized in January in Bruxelles and a Workshop on Virgin Forests that will be organized in February (place to be decided). The draft version the Carpathian Strategy will be presented together with the structure the implementation Report the Carpathian Convention to the CCIC. After an introduction round and the presentation the objectives this meeting the agenda was adopted. 2. Finalization the Biodiversity Protocol Strategic Action Plan After the last meeting the Carpathian Convention Working Group on protection and sustainable use biological and landscape diversity (Biodiversity WG) held in Poiana Brasov, Romania, on 18 19 May 2010, the revised draft was circulated for comments. The Parties provided several inputs and suggestions to Vienna -. Mr. Egerer invited the country representatives to summarize their comments. Czech, Slovakia and Poland shortly presented their notes and observations. Mr. Giacomo Luciani (EURAC expert

team/) explained that as far as possible all comments were incorporated into the document and the suggested changes to the structure the document were also taken into account. Then the discussion to finalize the Biodiversity SAP was opened and the participants went through the document which took the whole afternoon and the next morning session. It was agreed that the Vienna will redraft the document on the basis what agreed during the meeting and will distribute the document in about 2 weeks. 3. Other matters The Slovak representative, Mr. Jan Kadlecik, informed about a possible upcoming meeting the Ambassadors Carpathian countries in Berlin. Mr. Egerer provided an up-date planned activities for COP 10 in Nagoya and urged the country representatives to inform their Country Delegation and hopefully to participate at this side event the Alpine and the Carpathian Convention. And finally, Mr. Luciani presented the final version BIOREGIO Carpathian project proposal (process, objectives, structure, partners, etc.). Mr. Egerer thanked the host and the participant and closed the meeting.
