PARKWOOD YMCA The Parkwood YMCA summer camp provides a variety of opportunities to ensure that youth are learning and being physically active during the summer. Campers learn how to be responsible and resourceful, work in groups, solve problems and make decisions that will help them grow as individuals-all while having fun and feeling like they belong. The Parkwood YMCA is offering sports, specialty & themed camps each week during the summer of 2018. Each camp offering is uniquely different and offers a wide variety of activities throughout the week. These include activities such as arts/crafts, camp games, swimming, field trips, science projects, reading, word games and more. We want every camper to start school telling their friends that they had the BEST SUMMER EVER!! Hours of Operation Parkwood YMCA Sports, Specialty and Theme Camps run Monday - Friday, 9:30am to 4:00pm each week. Camp Hugabee Preschool Camp runs 8:30am 5:30pm. Camp PA-WA-PI 9:00am to 4:30PM Extended Care Extended care is available for all summer camps except for Camp Hugabee. Extended care hours are from 7:30am to the start of camp and from the end of camp to 6:00pm. You can drop off or pick up your child any time during the extended care hours. The fee is $40 per week per child and must be paid at time of registration. Age Appropriate Activities All summer camp programs have been designed with your child in mind. Campers are grouped with those of similar ages and participate in activities that are appropriate for their age group. Safe Environment Parents trust us with their most precious possession, their children, and we take that very seriously. Staff members are trained in safety procedures for each activity, risk management principles and child abuse detection and prevention strategies. Highest Quality Staff The YMCA camp staff is highly trained and very committed. References and past work experiences are thoroughly checked. Criminal checks and drug screenings are conducted prior to hiring. We employ hard working young men and women who are dedicated, experienced, responsible, enthusiastic, positive and fun! All staff members are trained in CPR and Basic First Aid. How to Register Summer programs fill quickly, so register early. You can register online, by phone, in person, by mail. Only applications which are completed in Financial Assistance full, signed and accompanied by the appropriate Camp scholarships for camps are available for those who qualify. The test consists of a 25 yard swim (½ on back, ½ on front) and then a 30 second water tread test. Any camper unable to pass the test will be wearing a red band indicating they are only allowed in the shallow end. For those that pass, they will be assigned a green band. In addition, any camper under 48 tall will be required to wear a life jacket, provided by the YMCA. Swim tests will occur each Monday. Camper Expectations Campers are expected to treat others in a respectful manner. Actions deemed physically or emotionally harmful to oneself or another camper are subject to immediate dismissal. This includes inappropriate or aggressive physical contact and repeated hurtful words. Campers should all have the opportunity to grow personally, develop a positive self image, learn to appreciate diversity, feel safe, feel accepted and have FUN. Concussion forms must be completed and signed before attending camps. Concussion form is only for gymnastics and sports camps. SPECIALTY CAMPS 9:30am - 4:00pm Check out these specialty camps! Each gives the camper a different experience throughout the week while still experiencing those fun, everyday camp activities they love. In addition, every day includes free swim time in the Parkwood pool. Bike-N-Park (Ages 8-12) Participants in this camp will learn basic bike safety and enjoy short bike trips. Mountain style of bike is preferred and participants must have a helmet. They will bike through surrounding neighborhoods and visit local parks. Participants will be able to leave their bike at the Y for the week. Dance/Cheer NEW! (Ages 5-12) Participants will have fun learning new moves & dance combinations. Cheer will focus on skill instruction and practice in the areas of basic motions, jumps, cheers, routines and chants! Golf (Ages 8-12) Participants will work on stance, putting, chipping, and driving. A visit to a driving range and a chance to play a par 3 golf course are also included. Golf Palooza (Ages 8-12) Participants will explore Disc Golf, Miniature Golf, and Golf. Weather permitting. Lego Mania (Ages 5-12) Each day will have a different theme and participants will have a chance to work in pairs as well as small groups. Campers should come prepared to be creative & ready to create unique pieces for all to see! Martial Arts (Ages 8-12) Participants will learn skills such as blocks, kicks, strikes, and also personal strength to keep them safe and to identify potentially dangerous situations. Camp will take place at Parkwood YMCA and will also include time at ATA Martial Arts in Haslett. Park Palooza (Ages 8-12) Participants in this camp will be transported each day to a different area park for a day of FUN. (Patriarche Park, Hillbrook Park, Wonch/Ferguseon Park, Hawk Island and Lake Lansing Park South) There will be structured games & activities as well as supervised free time. Racquet Challenge (Ages 8-12) Participants will enjoy a combination of tennis, racquetball, pickle ball, and badminton. Also, weather permitting we will spend time at a local area tennis court. Tennis (Ages 8-12) Participants will work on serve, forehand, backhand, proper footwork, and various other shots and will spend time at local tennis courts, weather permitting, during the week. Volleyball (Ages 8-12) Participants will work on serving, setting, passing/ bumping, basic footwork and court positioning. Weather permitting participants will be transported on a couple days to a local area sand volleyball court. Wacky Science (Ages 5-8 & 9-12) This program provides an opportunity for your child to engage in exciting and hands-on science through a series of specially-designed activities and a field trip to impression 5 Museum.

9:30am-4:00pm Do you love water? Want to play water games? Want to learn to swim or improve your swimming? Then our theme based swim camps are the right fit. All Aquatic Camps Feature: A 40 minute swim lesson 4 times per week. Free time in the water daily a key to children learning to enjoy the water and practice what is learned in the morning lesson. A weekly craft, literature time around the theme of the week, and a Friday trip to Lake Lansing. Depending on the theme water games will be included. What to bring: Swim Suit, Towel, sack lunch, and tennis shoes. AQUATICS CAMPS Splish Splash Camp Aqua Games Learn to swim and play silly aquatic games. Water Polo, Water baseball, alphabet sponge search, relays races, noodle fun, and water basketball. Enjoy outdoor water fun as well with outdoor water obstacle course. Last Splash We splashed into summer, now splash out with all the best water games, water relays that willed be remembered until the summer of 2019. Make a Splash Get ready to Splash into summer with fun on the slip n slide, indoor and outdoor water games, water relays, and fun crafts. Splash and learn to swim. Contests in best cannonballs, jumps, who can slip and slide the farthest, play water wave games in the pool. Water balloon toss games and duck, duck drench. Water Olympics Learn what Olympic events involve water. Even learn a few synchronized swimming skills. We will practice swim relays in the pool and do water related relays outside. Water in Motion This week will feature a trip to East Lansing Aquatic Center to enjoy the slides and water features. Children will learn about water safety and the duties of a lifeguard and learn rescues. Under the Sea Neptune s Adventure Learn about the Planet Neptune the Roman Goddess of the sea. Play outdoor games and do scavenger hunts around the YMCA in addition to the swim lessons and water games. What is under the water, in the lakes, streams, and oceans? Learn about sea creatures, fish and water ecology. Crafts and swim lessons designed around Sea Creatures. Row Your Boat Get in the water and row! We will make our own card board boats, Rent paddle boats at Lake Lansing, learn to make noodle boats and of course learn about boating safety. AFTER CAMP SWIM LESSONS This activity is for all campers, Ages 5-15. Take advantage of Swim Lessons for you child after their camp day from 4:15pm-5:15pm Monday Friday YMCA staff will pick up your child from camp and either you may pick up from the pool or we will return them to extended care (if signed up). Lessons will be offered: Week 3 June 25-June 29 Week 6 July 16-July 20 Week 10 August 13- August 17

9:30am - 4:00pm The Parkwood YMCA Sports Camps range for ages 5-12. Our sports camps emphasize basic to advanced skill instruction and practice in all areas of the sport. Campers will learn the rules of the game as well as team concepts and sportsmanship. These camps are ideal for any youth player looking to improve their skills or learn the fundamentals of the game. SPORTS CAMPS Sports Camp Palooza Spend your last week of summer enjoying the best of Sports Camps. Participants will enjoy a variety of games and activities. Sports Camps Basketball Soccer All Sports (Baseball, Basketball, Soccer) Flag Football Backyard Sports Sports Theme Camps Bowl - N - Roller Skate Bowl - N - Ice Skate T-Ball/Baseball Camp Participants of this camp will enjoy an afternoon taking in a Lansing Lugnuts baseball game (6/27 at 12 noon). Transportation to and from will be provided by the Parkwood Y. Field trip frenzy! Campers will go either bowling or skating each day of the week, while still having a blast swimming and taking part in fun activities at Parkwood. Jr. Sports Coach In Training Under the supervision of the Sports Camp Director and assistant, you ll develop communication skills, leadership skills, and sports specific skills. You ll also have opportunities to practice your skills in group settings under the direction of sports camp staff. Registration is limited to only 6 participants per week. 9:30am -4:00pm Spend the morning on stretching, floor, and other gymnastics activities. Then take an hour break for sack lunch and activities. The second half of the day will teach proper technique on the vault, uneven parallel bars, and the balance beam. Mondays through Thursdays will include a 45-minute swim. The week ends with a presentation for parents on Fridays at 3:00pm GYMNASTICS CAMPS Gymnastics Great news! This camp is offered all 12 weeks of camp. Jr. Gymnastics Coach In Training Under the supervision of the Gymnastics Camp director and assistant, you ll develop communications skills, leadership skills, sport specific skills, and proficiency in gymnastics program areas. You ll also have opportunities to practice your skills in group settings under the direction of gymnastics camp staff. Registration is limited to only 4 participants

CAMP HUGABEE Camp (Ages 3-5) provides a curriculum around designated weekly themes to include: arts and crafts projects, stimulating and imaginative play experiences and outdoor activities. NEW this summer there will be a morning camp from 8:30am - 1:00pm or afternoon camp 1:00-5:30pm or Full Day from 8:30am - 5:30pm. Children must be potty trained. Camp Pa-Wa-Pi Camper Drop Off 9:15am Camper Pick Up..4:30pm Challenge Activities Low Rope Challenge and Grotto activities are for ages 5-15 and focus on positive peer interaction. Climbing Tower is for ages 7 and up and Zipline is for ages 9 & up. Our 35 foot tower has four climbing routes for ages seven and up. The 400 foot zip line for ages nine and up will help campers improve their self-confidence and teamwork skills. Our group belay system and safety equipment keep all campers involved in the process.

CAMP PAWAPI Classic Camp (Ages 5-9) This is what day camp is meant to be! Your child will join others in age appropriate camp activities: Age 9 and up: Zip Line, Climbing Tower, Low Rope Challenge, Archery, Canoeing and other activities. Age 7 8: Climbing Tower, Low Rope Challenge, Archery, Canoeing and other activities. Age 5 6: Grotto, Archery, Canoeing and other activities. Other age appropriate activities include arts & crafts, nature exploration, team building, literacy, SPARK(Sports Play and Active Recreation for Kids), group games and much more. We encourage campers to complete a full year of kindergarten or pre-k before attending camp. The day is full of activities, so following instructions along with personally caring for themselves are key skills to have before camp. Campers will swim at the Williamston Pool Monday through Wednesday afternoons FEE $155/week, Y Member $135/week Week 4 FEE $125 Y Member $110 Adventure Camp (Ages 10-13) This is the next step in your child s day camp experience. Similar to the classic day camp, the children will participate in traditional camp activities such as climbing tower, zip line, archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, nature exploration, team building, and much more. The group will swim at the Williamston Pool Monday through Wednesday afternoons. With the Adventure Camp comes the field trip to a local park on Wednesday each week. FEE $165/week Y Member $145/week Week 4 FEE $130 Y Member $115 Leaders-in-Training (Ages 13-15) LITs will shadow counselors and younger campers, assisting in the planning of daily activities, and helping with the cooperation of the group. This program will give teens the tools they need to become a better teammate and leader in their social circles. FEE $100/week Y Member $80/week Week 4 FEE $ 80 Y Member $65 Wacky Science Camps (Ages 7-12) Continuing our focus on STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) campers will dive into numerous science experiments at camp and Impression 5 Children s Museum. Two hours each day will be dedicated to STEM, and the other time the campers will participate in regular camp activities like canoeing, climbing, archery and swimming. A field trip to Impression 5 will be included during the week. Weeks 3 and 7. FEE $160/week Y members $140/week Theme Fridays Each Friday, the week will culminate with an exciting day of themed activities! We will be sure to send a note home early in the week if the campers need to bring anything special on the theme day. Families are invited to attend from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm on Fridays and see our weekly skits and songs under the pavilion. Campers may be signed out at camp at the end of the day on Friday if you choose to pick them up at camp.
