NQF Ref 1105 Version 2 Page 1 of 5 National Certificate in Aviation (Introductory) (Level 2) Level 2 Credits 41 Purpose This qualification has been designed for secondary school students. It is designed to provide an overview of the aviation industry and its career paths. The compulsory section of the qualification incorporates standards that cover general knowledge and possible career paths within the aviation industry. The elective section enables students interested in pursuing a particular career path to obtain standards at level 2 or above, in any of the following sectors: Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautical Storekeeping, Aircraft Mechanical Maintenance, Avionic Maintenance, Aircraft Servicing, Aircraft Operation, Airport Operations, Flight Attendants, and International Air Express. This elective also allows for the selection of a range of generic skills that are required in a variety of employment contexts. This qualification prepares people for entry into further National Certificate and National Diploma level qualifications in the areas of Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautical Storekeeping, Aircraft Operations, Aircraft Servicing, Airport Operations, Flight Attendants, Ramp Operations, and International Air Express. Special Notes It is intended that secondary schools will form links with relevant aviation sectors in order for students to gain credit for standards in the aviation industry elective and complete the requirements of the certificate. will help facilitate this and in cases where students have passed equivalent Civil Aviation Authority exams, award credit for the corresponding unit standard by Recognition of Prior Learning. NQF Ref 1105 Version 2 Page 2 of 5 Requirements for Award of Qualification Award of NQF Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard. Changes to structure and content the credit values for standards 19585, 19587 and 20677 were updated following their review the minimum credit total for the Compulsory section increased from 17 to 20 the total credits for the Elective set were reduced from 24 to 21 the Air Traffic Services and Flight Catering domains were removed from the Elective the Ramp Operations domain was added to the Elective. Transition People currently working towards version 1 may either complete the requirements for that version by December 2012 or transfer their results to version 2.

NQF Ref 1105 Version 2 Page 5 of 5 Quality Management Systems Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by a recognised Quality Assurance Body before they can register credits from assessment against standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and the moderation system are outlined in the associated Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for each standard.
