Project Information Purpose The Adelaide City Council is seeking feedback regarding the Riverbank Precinct Footbridge. This feedback will then be passed onto Council, to help them determine their position in regard to the Footbridge. Please note your feedback may not the influence the final design of the bridge as this project is a State Government driven initiative. Background In 2010 the State Government announced the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval and also the redevelopment of the Riverbank Precinct. A key feature of the two projects is the construction of a footbridge linking the Riverbank Precinct and the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment. In July 2012, the State Government publically released the proposed design of the footbridge for public consultation. On the 26 th of July 2012, Adelaide City Council resolved to gather public feedback on the proposed bridge design so they could gauge public opinion on the project and adopt a position accordingly. The cost of the bridge is approx. $40M. Ownership of the completed bridge is currently the subject of negotiations between Adelaide City Council and the State Government. It is Council s preferred position to take ownership of the bridge and request a contribution from State Government for future maintenance of the bridge. Benefits/Impacts of the project The new footbridge will ease pressure on existing movement corridors between Adelaide Oval and the City. It will provide a link between the City and North Adelaide that can be used all year round by Oval users and commuters alike. The bridge will improve the integration of the Riverbank precinct and Adelaide Oval with public transport and the CBD. Timeline The Footbridge concept design was released by the State Government in July 2012. Design development of the bridge is currently underway with work anticipated to start in early 2013. The construction of the bridge is expected to be completed in late 2013. How do I provide my feedback? Adelaide City Council is asking for community feedback on the Riverbank Precinct Footbridge.
