District 39W Newsletter February 2017 DISTRICT GOVERNOR S CORNER Hello fellow Lions!! It s a great day to be a Lion!! With the Mid Winter convention behind us, it s time to wrap up this year. This has been an experience Lion Lynne and I will never forget. We can t thank you enough for all the great things we have done, so far!! The Mid Winter convention was a huge success!! The festivities started Friday Night with Wine Tasting from local wineries. Saturday was our business meeting and we were honored to have International Director Bruce Beck and his wife Lion Erin visit us from Minnesota and share their words of wisdom during lunch. The breakout sessions took our breath away, literally. Alan Niksich told us how the military and Lions have so much in common. Sue Basabe and Kimber Hall talked about healthy eating and exercise. They had everyone in the room working off their lunch!! Then we were introduced to our newest District Governor Elect and his two Vice District Governor Elects. Here are our elected future leaders: District Governor Elect Lion Tim Vincent, Nampa Lions Club 1 st Vice District Governor Elect Lion James Spanberger, Boise Capital Lions 2 nd Vice District Governor Elect Lion Joe Jara, Star Lions Club We then loaded up on the bus and vans, courtesy of the City of Mountain Home, and traveled to the base. There, we were wined and dined as Queens and Kings at Mountain Home Air Force Base s Gunfighter Club and had a very dynamic speaker, Sammi Tucker, entertain us that evening. Sammi represented Team USA as an archer at last summers Paralympics Games in Rio!! We were also honored
to have the Wing Commander, Col. Jeff O Donnell, and Command Chief Master Sergeant Chad Bickley in attendance. They have extended an invitation to the Lions for a future tour of the base. Although our year is halfway complete, WE have so much left to do. We have chartered one new club, Meridian Roaring Lions, and working on another, Boise West BWC. In addition, CC Jerry Mastel has sent us the information on their diabetes club. He stated we could possibly start two new diabetes clubs in Twin Falls and Caldwell. We have also heard from some former Lions in Middleton on starting their club back up. This is very exciting. We have visited almost half of our clubs and plan on visiting all before years end.
