Fish and Wildlife Management #5 Geocaching 1. Do ONE of the following: 2. Construct, erect, and check regularly at least two artificial nest boxes (wood duck, bluebird, squirrel, etc.) and keep written records for one nesting season. 3. Construct, erect, and check regularly bird feeders and keep written records of the kinds of birds visiting the feeders in the winter. 4. Design and implement a backyard wildlife habitat improvement project and report the results. 5. Design and construct a wildlife blind near a game trail, water hole, salt lick, bird feeder, or birdbath and take good photographs or make sketches from the blind of any combination of 10 wild birds, mammals, reptiles, or amphibians. 7 With your parent s permission*, go to www.geocaching.com. Type in your zip code to locate public geocaches in your area. Share the posted information about three of those geocaches with your counselor. Then, pick one of the three and find the cache. To fulfill this requirement, you will need to set up a free user account with www.geocaching.com. Ask your parent for permission and help before you do so. Describe the design of your project and explain how the anchoring system works. Each Scout must bring one of the following camera types and any necessary accessories to the Winter Camp Photography Class: a. Pocket Digital Camera b. Compact Digital Camera c. 35mm Format Digital SLR Camera d. Traditional Film Based Camera with Flash. Please note that should your Scout bring a traditional film based camera, they will receive an incomplete. Traditional film developing and printing WILL NOT be available at camp. The Scout will need to complete requirement 4 a or 4 B with their photography merit badge counselor back at their troop to complete the merit badge. 2. Each Scout must be familiar with the basic operation of said camera so that they will be able to complete requirement 4 A during the week at Winter Camp. Presentations of photos will occur on the last day of class and typically shown on their digital camera displays. 3. Please make sure that your Scout brings to Winter Camp the Camera s power charger and / or replacement batteries. It is very common that Scouts will run the batteries down in their devices and WILL NEED to be charged. 4. A memory chip reader or USB cable would be helpful for presentation purposes on an computer rather than the camera display. Please remember that these cameras are subject to getting wet at Winter Camp by your Scouts.
