The Frontier-Australia Outback Tour will explore some of the most spectacular and amazing sights Australia has to offer. Venture from the south to the north (Adelaide to Darwin), through the Red Centre of Australia. Brace your senses for 15 days of action packed fun and adventure! This experience will surely inspire your curiosity and sense of adventure as you marvel at some of the most unique natural wonders and landscapes on earth. Our awesome driver-guides will ensure you have a great time on your Adelaide to Darwin tour. We travel by air-conditioned coach, so your journey is super-comfy and relaxing. Group sizes range from 15-24 people, so you ll make lots of new friends.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING? Day 1 Into the Outback! On the first day of our Adelaide to Darwin tour, we travel through the Barossa and Clare Valley with some photo stops along the way. We visit the oldest winery in the area to sample some wine before lunch at the historic town of Melrose. See the spectacular sunset across the western plains and breathtaking scenery of the Central Flinders Ranges. Tonight we relax and enjoy a few drinks with the locals at a country pub in one of the smallest towns in Australia, Parachilna. Day 2 Aboriginal History Today begins with a scenic drive through Parachilna Gorge, where you ll see loads of emus, kangaroos and other Aussie wildlife. We venture into the Flinders Ranges National Park, and take an awesome hike with our Guide. This afternoon we hike to the fascinating Aboriginal art site of Arkaroo Rock followed by a visit to Kanyaka Ruins a modern day reminder of the hardship European settlers endured in this harsh environment. Enjoy a feast in a local pub tonight then settle into this evening s accommodation in the historic town of Quorn. Day 3 Coober Pedy We travel deeper into the outback desert to explore the surface of a salt lake for some awesome photo opportunities. We make a brief stop in the sheep-farming township of Glendambo with a population of just 30 before arriving in the Opal mining town of Coober Pedy. We check out the unique sights of this remarkable town, where everything (even our accommodation) is built underground! Day 4 Alice Springs Departing Coober Pedy, we cross the spectacular expanse of the Moon Plain and on to the Dingo Fence, the longest fence in the world. We see the awe-inspiring Breakaways Scenic Reserve on route to the real heart of Central Australia, Alice Springs. We will pass some very remote roadhouses before crossing the border into the Northern Territory where our resort pool is calling and a very comfy night is guaranteed! Day 5 Sunset at Uluru You will start the day with a visit to an Outback camel farm for that all important photo opportunity. You will then make your way to The Rock Uluru and enjoy an informative talk provided by your friendly Frontier guide. Your guide will explain the Aboriginal significance of Uluru, before watching one of the most amazing sunsets ever! With a glass of bubbly in hand and new mates to chat with this will surely be an addition to your awesome Australian adventure! Day 6 Uluru Rise and shine early to see the awesome Uluru sunrise, then the morning is yours with time to relax or take a full base walk of the magnificent rock. After lunch, we wander back through the local Aboriginal Art markets, where you can try your hand at a dot painting class to create that perfect take home souvenir. Come evening, prepare to be dazzled by the beauty of the heavenly bodies above as you gaze the skies. Pay attention as your Frontier guide point out constellations, planets, and other celestial bodies visible to the naked eye! Day 7 Kata-Tjuta
Spend the first half of the day exploring the strange but magnificent features of the ancient geological formation of Kata-Tjuta (The Olgas) on a hike through the Valley of the Winds. After lunch, journey across the dessert plains and visit the Watarrka National Park, home of the mighty Kings Canyon! You will be spending the evening camping in the great Australian outdoors so make sure to get the most out of this experience! Day 8 Kings Canyon Spend the day exploring the King s Canyon! A highlight of your central Australia adventure, this soaring sandstone landscape will surely leave you lost for words. Walk along the Rim Walk and peer over the sandstone gorge below. Visit the Garden of Eden, a permanent waterhole and a quenching dessert oasis. Grab some lunch and maybe try some Camel Burger before heading on to the central Australian metropolis of Alice Springs for the evening. Day 9 Alice Springs The tranquil, remote city of Alice Springs has heaps to offer! Check out the Royal Flying Doctor Museum and the Desert Park Gardens to get a grip of the city. Alternatively, get close and cuddly with some awesome creatures at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre. This day is allocated for some rest and relaxation. Catch up on those important emails, upload your amazing photos, laze by the pool or indulge in some shopping therapy. Day 10 Devil s Marbles Among Australia s most curious offerings is the Karlu Karlu or the Devils Marbles. These rocks of volcanic origin have eroded over thousands of years to form their distinct spherical shapes with diameters of up to 7 metres! This is where you will be heading for the day! Day 11 Mataranka Hot Springs No visit towards the Top End would be complete without a stop at the traveller favourite, Daly Waters Pub, one of Australia s oldest and best known Pubs, for a fulfilling lunch! While you re there why not go on a quick refreshing dip in the pub s pool. Refreshed and satisfied, you will head on to Mataranka. Mataranka lies in the heart of the Never- Never and you ll feel a million miles from anywhere as you soak in the steamy thermal springs. Day 12 Katherine The town of Katherine will be your home for the next two days! Spend the first day kayaking down Katherine Gorge. With its dramatic cliffs plunging down to the pandanus-lined Katherine River, the gorge is all yours to explore. At noon, pick up some lunch in town and head to one of the Northern Territories best picnic spots and swimming destination, the magic Edith Falls. Take a short walk around the falls to discover some secret spots before taking that refreshing plunge into the water. This is a great place to clear out the red dirt from the dessert and exercise your swimming skills for your adventure ahead! Day 13 Kakadu Waterfalls Prepare your trekking shoes, build up your stamina and put on a smile because you will be visiting the World Heritage area of Kakadu National Park. You will trek to the top of the waterfall and splash in the clear waters while looking out into one of the best views on the planet! At the end of the day, spend the night deep within the Kakadu National Park and enjoy an Aussie barbecue dinner in a tropical setting. Day 14 Kakadu Croc Cruise
Rise bright and early for another exciting fun filled day ahead! Venture to Nourlangie Rock and appreciate some of the most famous indigenous artworks in Australia. Afterwards, head north to the border of the National Park and Arnhemland for a Croc River cruise! Later in the day, meet some local Aboriginal people and have the opportunity to practice spear throwing. Learn about the local culture, mythology and the river s abundant food chain, plus the traditional uses for many of the plants and animals. Discover ancient Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr before you climb to the top of a rocky lookout for beautiful views over the Nardab floodplain, enjoying the amazing sunset! Day 15 Litchfield &Darwin The last day of your tour will by no means be end of your adventure. On your final day, you will have the opportunity to check out and have a swim at another magnificent waterfall at Litchfield National Park. Once you ve swam to your heart s content, you will have a hearty lunch and then head on to the spectacular city of Darwin where more of Australia awaits! WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE? You will be met by a friendly in-country Frontier representative upon arrival to your destination airport (Adelaide Airport) and taken to your allocated hostel in Adelaide. Be aware that airport transfers will only be available from 6am to 10 pm. If your flight arrives later, you will need to catch a taxi that may cost about AUS$40. Alternatively, you may take the airport train to the Central Station for approximately AUS$16. WHERE WILL I BE STAYING? You will be provided with comfortable, clean, shared accommodation throughout the duration of your tour. You will be staying in a variety of accommodation types including hostels, lodges and cabins. To get you even more excited about your outback experience, you will also be staying in swag on one night gazing up at the clear outback dessert sky and in an underground hotel whilst in Coober Pedy!
