Our trek begins in the shadow of Brandberg (2,573m), s tallest mountain, which dominates the surrounding arid landscape. Here, over 43,000 ancient rock paintings created by bushmen can be seen in caves and on rock faces. Together we trek into the Tsisab Gorge to see the famous White Lady painted around 2000 years ago, depicting what is believed to be a medicine man. At Spitzkop, the granite peak towering up out of the n desert, we hike into the rocky terrain to see further stunning examples of bushman paintings, giving us a spectacular glimpse back in time. One of the highlights of our trip is a trek in the Erongo Mountains on a hike that takes us to the huge granite boulders of Bulls Party and onto Elephants Head, followed by the luxury of a dip in the swimming pool back at our new camp! On our final day of trekking we head up into the hills overlooking Windhoek where we visit charity projects and local schools to gain a fascinating insight into the life of the n people. itinerary DAY 1 - Depart London We depart London on our flight to Windhoek. Meals: Dependent on flight schedule DAY 2 - Arrive Windhoek We arrive in Windhoek where we are met by our guides and transfer by road to our hotel in Omaruru. Here we have a welcome dinner to mark the start of an incredible week and a full briefing on the challenge ahead. Breakfasts each morning will be at our accommodation whilst lunches will be en route. Evening meals will be freshly prepared for us either in camp or at our hotel/hostel in time for your arrival with a variety of rice, pasta, vegetables and a selection of fresh meat and fresh fish. We can cater for all dietary requirements if informed in advance. Meals: L,D Accom: Hotel / Hostel DAY 3 - Ugab River After an early breakfast we transfer 160 km northwest to our bush camp on the banks of the Ugab River. Here we trek with our local Damara guides into the Brandburg Nature Reserve, where we are greeted by the awesome sight of the tallest mountain in, rising 2,573 m out of the surrounding arid landscape. The mighty Brandberg is also known as Fire Mountain due to the captivating red glow of its west face as the sun sets over the desert. Our route takes us from the upper reaches of the Ugab River, along its dried river bed and eventually into our camp. This camp, just below the Brandberg massif, is the first of our trekking camps and promises to be a great experience. Three nights in hotels / hostels Four nights camping All accommodation is on a twin/tripleshare, single-sex basis and we will pair you with someone of a similar age, where possible. Meals: B,L,D Accom: Camping Distance: 15 km DAY 4 - Brandberg This morning we walk from the camp into the Tsisab Gorge on the northern side of the massif. Here we trek for 16 km to see the famous White Lady bushman painting before continuing through the ravine to view more spectacular rock paintings. We have lunch just below the caves before returning to our camp for our second night in this incredible wild camp setting. Please email us for more information DAY 5 - Spitzkop This morning we start with a 100 km transfer to Spitzkop, probably the most iconic rock formation in. As soon as we arrive at our camp we set off on our trek on a circular route that takes us over the steep slopes and into the heart of the mountain to see bushman paintings. We will have lunch here before heading over our highest point and down onto the plains the other side, a trail that eventually brings us back to camp. Tonight we watch as the sun sets, lighting up the side of this beautiful mountain and we relax with a cool beer under millions of stars with a great plate of camp food. DAY 6 - Erongo Mountains The day starts early with breakfast in the chilly air as the sun rises onto the amazing Spitzkop and the surrounding peaks. We break camp and make our way to Ameib private farm and game reserve where we set up camp in our well-established site with great facilities. Here we have an early lunch before heading off for the afternoon through the Erongo Mountains, a trek that will take us to the huge granite boulders of Bulls Party and onto Elephants Head one of the most incredible places on our trip. Later this afternoon, once back in camp, we can relax with the luxury of a swimming pool in a truly incredible setting. Meals: B,L,D Accom: Camping Distance: 16 km DAY 7 - Windhoek We begin our final trekking day with an early three hour transfer, bringing us closer to Windhoek. Our trek today will take us to the hills overlooking the city and where we will meet the local communities. We get our first insight into the lives of the n people as we visit one of the local schools and charity projects working here. This evening we make our way into town for our celebratory evening meal to mark the end of an incredible challenge. A kit list will be sent to you on receipt of registration. Many everyday items can be used on this challenge, and we offer a kit hire service to keep costs down. If you are planning on travelling to before the challenge or wish to organise your own flights, we do offer a land only option, with a significant discount off the trip price. Today we transfer to the airport for our flight to London. DAY 9 - Arrive UK training weekends / briefings We run a number of training weekends throughout the year in the Peak District, Breacon Beacons and Snowdonia. These are fully-inclusive - 2 night s accommodation and all meals. We also organise training days in London and the North and South downs. On both, you will get the chance to meet our mountain leaders and test out your kit and fitness! You will also receive an invite to a challenge briefing in central London. payment options A REGISTRATION DEPOSIT of 399 (for 2015) is required to secure your place. We offer 2 deposit payment options: OPTION 1: Deposit paid in full, by card at the time of registration. OPTION 2: Deposit paid in two 50/50 split payments. The first 50% is paid when you register and the second is charged to your payment card at the end of the following month. For this option, a 10 supplement will be charged with the first instalment. ATOL is a scheme that protects you from losing money or being stranded abroad if your travel company collapses. Action Challenge is 100% ATOL bonded, which provides you with full financial protection. On receipt of your registration fee, you will receive an ATOL certificate explaining your protection. It s then completely up to you whether or not you choose to raise any money for a charity of your choice. The total all inclusive cost of this trip is 1,959 (for 2015), which, after you pay the 399 Registration Deposit, leaves a balance of 1,560. This final balance is due for payment 10 weeks before your departure along with any fuel surcharges levied by the airline. 2) SPONSORSHIP FUNDED This is for anyone who wants to take on this challenge and will link it with fundraising a significant sum of money for a charity of their choice. You would have to raise at least 3,150 (for 2015) via sponsorship and donations from friends, family and colleagues, and be confident at the outset that you can achieve this total. Pay the Registration Deposit and nominate a charity to fundraise for. All fundraising goes directly to your charity and providing that you raise at least 3,150 (for 2015), your charity will pay for the balance of your trip costs to Action Challenge. That balance, paid by your charity, is 1,560 (the same as if you were you were Self Funded ) - the charity will retain at least 1,590 to help fund their work.
