SFU SUMMER CAMPS AVAILABLE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS The Simon Fraser University camps program requires many volunteers for a wide variety of camps. This is a list of the camps for which we require volunteers on the Burnaby campus. Please also see our Camps Brochure online at www.sfu.ca/camps for more in-depth detail on each camp, as well as the camp dates. Also note that not all of our camps are listed here. SPORTS SPECIFIC CAMPS For these camps, we are looking for individuals who love being active by playing sports. Actively participating in all activities and providing positive support for the campers are the best ways to help out in these camps. Preferred experience with the specific sport is an asset but it is not a prerequisite. Badminton Martial Arts Soccer Tennis Track & Field A half day camp which develops skills, introduces technical drills, and focuses on team building. This camp will be done in conjunction with another half day camp. A half day camp introducing various forms of martial arts (which may include Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, and Fencing). This camp will be done in conjunction with another half day camp. Boys: Half day and full day camps with a focus on skill development, team building, scrimmaging and fun! Girls: Half day and full day camps with a focus on skill development, team building, mental training and scrimmaging. This camp teaches various games and activities to develop physical, technical, mental, and tactical skills. A half day camp which exposes campers to the various event areas of Track & Field. This camp will be done in conjunction with another half day camp. Multi-Sport Half Day Recreation Half Day A half day camp with a variety of sports that change each day. This camp will be done in conjunction with another half day camp. A half day camp with a variety of activities (wide games, arts & crafts etc.) that change each week. This camp will be done in conjunction with another half day camp.
RECREATION CAMPS Clan Kids One of our summer favourites! Clan Kids is a full day camp filled with various recreational activities including cooperative games, arts & crafts, special events, themes, and a field trip! Great for new volunteers wanting to gain leadership experience working with children! SFU s So You Think You Can Dance Camp A full day 2-week camp for children aged 8-12, SFU s So You Think You Can Dance camp exposes campers to a variety of dance genres and will apply these through choreographed routines, dance-offs, etc. Preferred dance experience in at least 2 styles. Glee This 2-week full day camp for participants aged 8-14 is based on the popular TV series. Campers will learn melodies, harmonies, and choreography - an outstanding opportunity for volunteers who like the stage! Rec Reality A full day camp involving reality TV shows for campers aged 8-12. The camp may include games such as: Amazing Race, Jeopardy, Minute to Win it, Survivor, and others! Girls Rock A full day camp exclusively for girls aged 9-11, campers in Girls Rock will learn more about themselves and an active lifestyle. It focuses on health and fitness, this camp also includes and indoor rock climbing component. ***FEMALE VOLUNTEERS ONLY Fitness Innovation Explore new innovative ways to lead an active lifestyle in this full day camp for young girls aged 12-15. Activities will include yoga, boot camp, and more! ***FEMALE VOLUNTEERS ONLY
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CAMPS Outdoor Adventure This is a full day camp which exposes campers aged 11-14 to the world of rock climbing, mountain biking and kayaking. Preferred experience in either field as well as a love for the outdoors! Mountain Madness A full day camp for children aged 8-13, Mountain Madness exposes campers to activities such as archery, hiking, orienteering, etc. On the last day, campers will venture on an Amazing Race across the lower mainland. Out Trippers Out Trippers is a full day camp for children aged 8-13. Every day, campers will go on a new field trip. Locations may include Science World, Vancouver Aquarium, Capilano Suspension Bridge, etc.
AQUATIC CAMPS Volunteers in our aquatic camps must be comfortable with the water and willing to actively participate in all activities with the children both in and out of the water. H2O Wonders This is a full day camp in which campers aged 8-12 will participate in a wide variety of water based recreational activities. They will be exposed to the variety of different aquatic opportunities such as diving, kayaking, lifesaving and more! Under the Sea This is a half day camp in which campers aged 5-8 will be swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and more. Volunteers should be comfortable in the water and able to swim 2 laps of the pool. This camp will be done in conjunction with another half day camp.
EDUCATIONAL CAMPS ESL Camp A great camp which helps young ESL students, aged 7-15, learn English in a fun and interactive English-speaking environment. A good all round camp for volunteers. ESL incorporates classroom and recreation activities as well as 2 field trips! Fun with Computers This 2-week full day camp challenges children aged 8-14 to stretch their computer skills and creativity. Areas explored may include: Internet and Interactivity, Graphics and Animation, and Movie Editing with music and sound effects. Experience with computers and programs such as FrontPage, PhotoShop, Peak, Flash, and Premiere is an asset (not mandatory). Mini University A 2-week full day camp for children aged 8-14. Children are taught a variety of subjects ranging from Chemistry and Criminology to Biology, and Marketing. Campers spend an hour in each course and also have time for recreational activities such as games, swimming, and archery.
PARTNERSHIP CAMPS The Director s Cut Camps Rock Paper Scissors I Wanna Rock! Music Video Telus Summer Movie Making This full day camp for campers ages 8-12 allows children to produce their own short videos. Campers have full control over their individual projects, from script writing, to storyboarding, to filming and editing! Instructors and volunteers will help guide and supervise the campers through their project. Volunteers with film experience or drama experience would be great, but again, energy and enthusiasm can go a long way! Great environment, great people, great experience!
