1 Status Quo of Development of China s Tourism In 2007, China s tourism industry showed signs of good development. Three major travels maintained steady growth. 3

Inbound Travel 4

Incoming tourists numbered 132 million, with foreign exchange revenue amounting to US$41.9 billion, an increase of 5.5 percent and 23.5 percent respectively. foreigners numbered 26.1097 million, a rise of 17.6 percent. Outgoing tourists numbered 40.954 million, an increase of 18.6% Features : Proportion of growth on personal travel is far larger than on business travel. 6.03 million tourists on business travel, a rise of 5.3%, and 34.924 million tourists on personal travel, a rise of 21.3% Top 10 destinations: Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Russia, Thailand, the U.S., Singapore and Malaysia 9

Outgoing tourists organized by travel agencies totaled 9.8742 million, a rise of 17.1% Growth of outgoing tourists attributes to the increase of ADS, which was 89 in 2007 and 135 in October, 2008 10

Domestic travelers totaled 1.61 billion, with an income of 777. 06 billion yuan, a rise of 15.5% and 24.7% respectively. Features : Rural residents exceeded urban residents in number, in the ratio of 998 million to 612 million Domestic travel is mostly concentrated on three golden-week holidays. Travelers numbered 417 million Income: 181.6 billion yuan 12

3 The World Keeps Attaching Importance on China s Tourist Market In 2015, China s tourist market is expected to have 100 million incoming visitors, 100 million outgoing tourists and 2.8 billion domestic travelers: A five-year plan is put on agenda. 26
