Report on National Convention for CA Students held at Siliguri on 17 th & 18 th December, 2015 Under the aegis of Board of Studies, Siliguri Branch of EIRC of ICAI jointly with Siliguri Branch of EICASA hosted the National Convention for CA Students on 17 th & 18 th December, 2015. The theme of the convention was MINDSPARK Ignite the Light.... The convention was a historic event, where more than 620 students participated as delegates and was held at one of the most beautiful venue being Savin Kingdom, Dagapur, Siliguri. The formal inaugural session was graced by Chief Guest Shri Ashok Narayan Bhattacharya (Former Minister of Urban Development, Govt. of West Bengal & presently Mayor, Siliguri Municipal Corporation), Guest of Honor- CA. Amarjit Chopra (Past President, ICAI) & Special Guest Sri Kamal Agarwala ( MIC, Siliguri). CA. Shyam Kumar Agarwal (Chairman, Siliguri Branch), CA. Pankaj Maskara (Chairman, Siliguri Branch of EICASA) and CA Sanjay Das (Secretary, Siliguri Branch) & CA. Pawan Kumar Lahoti (Branch Program Chairman, Siliguri Branch) were also present in inaugural session. The Chairman, Board of Studies, CA.V.Murali could not attend due to SIRC Elections which were postponed owing to floods in Chennai. Several Chartered Accountants & Students from Nepal also attended the National Convention along with a Galaxy of Past Chairman and members of Siliguri Branch of EIRC of ICAI. Out of more than 80 papers received from CA Students 16 best papers were selected to be presented in the Four Technical Session on the topics of Accounts & Audit, Corporate Law, Direct Taxes & Indirect Taxes. The four technical session were chaired by CA Amarjit Chopra, CA. Mohit Bhuteria & CA.Priyanka Choraria, CA. (Dr.) Girish Ahuja & CA. V.Raghuraman. The winner was Mr. Pranav Vinay Kumar Rathi (WRO 0452223) from Aurangabad. 1 ST Runners-up and 2 nd Runners-up were Miss Sneha Agarwal (ERO 0204823) from Siliguri and Mr. G.Vinod Kumar Reddy (SRO 0341818) from Bengaluru. The Hon Judges for the Technical Sessions were CA. Kaberi Bhuyan & CA. Sunil Sharma (both Past Chairman, Guwahati Branch of EIRC) alongwith CA. Niraj Harodia ( Reputed Faculty & Speaker) The Three Special /motivational Session was addressed by CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda from Delhi, CA. Sathya Kumar from Bengaluru & Spiritual Guru Sri BK Karan Rana from Ambala. Sri C.L.Denzongpa, D.G.(East), Department of Revenue, Government of India also addressed the Students. The Chief Guest for the Valedictory Session was Prof.(Dr.) Rathin Banerjee, HOD, North Bengal University and the Guest of Honour was CA. (Dr.) Girish Ahuja The winners and participants of the Paper Presentation were presented Certificate and Trophies during the valedictory Session. At the end of first day a cultural extravaganza on theme of National Integration titled GOONJ was held where the CA students presented their extracurricular skills and Christmas was also Celebrated in advance. The entire show was prepared, anchored and choreographed by the students themselves. The cultural evening consisted of individual and group performances of dance, singing & drama. The Members and students present thoroughly enjoyed the same & were extremely happy to see these facades of CA students. The presence of Chief Guest of Cultural Show, Sri Rajanvir Singh Kapur, IAS (SDO-Siliguri) added color to the program. National Convention got huge media publicity as almost all the big players of the print as well as TV media had widely covered the entire event. The whole event was managed and executed by volunteers of Siliguri Branch of EICASA under guidance of members of Siliguri Branch of EIRC. Over all the convention was a grand success and has achieved its desired objectives of enhancing the Knowledge, Confidence and Communication Skills to the Students.
