Welcome to Year Five of the Legacy! Welcome to The Legacy - the premier event of Southern Region Area 5 Venturing. The 5th annual Legacy event is hosted by the Piedmont Council VOA at Camp Bud Schiele, in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. LEGACY 5 will take place Friday September 29 through Sunday October 1, 2017. Legacy brings together young men and women from Area 5 and beyond for a weekend of camping, competitions, high adventure, fun, and fellowship. Legacy has grown to be a nationally recognized Venturing event attended by the national president of Venturing and other key Venturing leaders. Chris Chernewych SR5 VOA President As the SR5 Venturing President, I d like to personally welcome each of you to Legacy 5. It s an exciting time for Area 5 Venturing. There are numerous events and activities in store for this weekend and I can t wait to participate in them with all of you! Whether you plan to throw tomahawks and knives all weekend, head down to the ranges, beat someone in one of our giant board games, or just hang out with friends, I hope you have a blast this weekend. In keeping with this, LEGACY 5 has a theme of: Past, Present, and Future. Where? Camp Bud Schiele in Rutherfordton, NC When? September 29 - October 1, 2017 What will we do? Fun events, exhibits, games and Competitions! Why? Fun and Fellowship with other Venturers. What s the Cost? The fee for LEGACY 5 is $49.00 per attendee. The fee includes patch, camp usage fee, meals, programs, and materials. On September 15 th the registration fee increases to $55.00. Who should I contact with questions? The Blue Ridge Council VOA will host this year's campfire. The theme for this year's Campfire is "Wild, Wild West". The sign-up application for your skit, song or story must be turned in before dinner on Saturday. The Blue Ridge Council VOA will host next year's Legacy. 4

This year s LEGACY CHALLENGE will put all your skills to the test. Enjoy our Amazing Race style adventure as you travel through camp performing challenges. Check-in Hours: Friday 3:30pm - 8:00pm at the Leader Lodge just up from the main camp parking lot. Any crew arriving after 10:00pm will need to call/text (Tom Dewey 704-460-3875) to arrange late check-in. You must have the following with you at check-in: 1. All youth and adult BSA medical forms Parts A & B 2. A copy of your roster 3. Copy of registration receipt 4. Swim Test Record Signup for this event will be make sure we have enough staff and the route clear. There will be signups for events available at the Friday Dance Party. Wristbands will be handed out at check-in for those who paid the Shooting Sports Fee. Bands will be hole punched after successful completion of the Range Safety Briefing at each range. All meals will be prepared at the camp s Dining Hall. Venturers will dine in the designated areas in and around the Dining Hall. Special dietary needs should be reported in full detail to the Piedmont Council by September 8 and we will make every effort to accommodate them. Camp Bud Schiele has limited cell reception, good on Verizon and poor reception for AT&T and other carriers throughout most of camp. Behavior It is expected that you make every effort to behave in a manner consistent with the Scout Oath and Law. This is the standard by which we all try to live by and how we treat each other. We all must follow the Guide to Safe Scouting and official BSA rules. Footwear Except when at the waterfront or taking a shower, footwear must be worn at all times. For safety reasons, open toed shoes are not to be worn at camp. Weather Legacy 5 will take place rain or shine. Camp Bud Schiele can experience different types of weather conditions during the time of year Legacy 5 will be held. We may adjust some of the activities due to weather conditions. Watch the weather forecast before coming to camp and plan accordingly following the Weather Hazard guidelines of the BSA. Camping Arrangements Crews must bring their own tents and camping gear. Each crew will be assigned a campsite prior to arrival. Campsite assignments will be made based on the size of the crew and campsite capacity. Each campsite in Camp Bud Schiele has restrooms and hot showers. What Not to Bring Personal firearms, ammunition, and bows are not allowed in camp; only those supplied by the Shooting Sports Area are to be used. Sheath knives are not permitted at camp and are a violation of camp policy. In addition, no pets of any kind are allowed at camp; this is a National Policy of the BSA. Vehicles in Camp No vehicles are allowed beyond the parking areas except during check-in and check-out periods. During these times, the crew may use one vehicle of its own to carry gear to the parking areas. All vehicles must be removed immediately after unloading to allow room for other vehicles and in the event emergency vehicles are needed. Parking When the main parking lot is full, vehicles can be parked in the overflow lot near the climbing tower. 8

There will be a limited number of campsites with tents/cots for crews without tents/gear. We will accommodate on a first to request basis. This need must be communicated prior to the event weekend. If those accommodations are needed please contact Will Morton at PiedmontVOA@gmail.com. Venturers are welcome to hammock camp in their crew's assigned campsite. Hammocks must be under 6 feet high and cannot be stacked. Anyone with medical conditions that require special assistance (golf carts or limited walking) should contact as well to make arrangements. We will do our best to make accommodations for those with disabilities. 9
