COLOMBIA // Trip Information FAST FACTS ABOUT THE COUNTRY Colombia is located in the northwest portion of South America. Ecologically, it is the second most diverse country in the world. Fusagasuga, or known as Fusa, is where SCORE has missionaries. Fusa is a town of about 135,000 people which is located about two hours south of Bogota the nation s capital. SCORE missionaries help run a 178-acre camp ministry there, which is partnered with the Rawlings Foundation. IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION Visa: A visa is not required for a stay of up to 90 days. Traveler must be in possession of a passport valid for 6 months beyond stay and a round-trip airline ticket. A visa may be required if trip purpose is other than basic business meetings. TELEPHONE CALLS/ INTERNET Make sure to check with your mobile phone plan before traveling outside of your home country. Communicating through the internet is the best option. Wireless internet is available in the hotel and most coffee shops. WEATHER Colombia is located in the northwest portion of South America. Passport Requirements: Original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay, and with at least one blank visa page available for visa stamp(s). Proof Of Departure: Confirmed round-trip or onward airline ticket. INSURANCE purchases insurance for all persons going on trips prior to their team leaving the USA. Insurance coverage is provided through Faith Ventures Each trip participant will be covered by the same policy which provides $25,000 coverage for accidental injury and sickness and $750 for emergency dental. COLOMBIA // Trip Information LUGGAGE AND PACKING Airlines are constantly changing and updating their policies concerning luggage. Please check with your airline company for up to date information concerning luggage and fees. is not responsible for baggage fees. Items to pack: 1. Power bars, granola, or crackers 2. Water bottles 3. Beach towel, sunscreen 4. Bug repellent 5. Hand Sanitizer 6. Earplugs 7. Small first aid kit 8. Passports, and a copy of your passport 9. Please get to teh airport 3 hours in advance 10. Pack a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in case your luggage is delayed or lost CLOTHING We ask that each person would help us to stay above reproach in this area. What may not be a problem in the USA can be identified as a problem in this culture. What is appropriate in the U.S. may not be appropriate there. Please do not offend or hurt the testimony of your group by wearing inappropriate clothes. The following standards are strictly enforced. CURRENCY The currency in Colombia is the Colombian Peso. The dollar value in terms of the Colones varies from day to day. EVALUATION Be sure to fill out your trip evaluation following your trip to ensure that each experience traveling with SCORE International can be the best it has ever been. MEALS All meals are provided by SCORE, the place for the meals will be determined by the location of the ministry. Groups may choose to eat out at a restaurant or fast food if they want to pay themselves. This is up to the group leader to decide. MINISTRY ITEMS You will need to bring any crafts or supplies needed for your ministry. We suggest you pack them in suitcases and make sure your bag doesn t weigh over 50 lbs. Concerning Ladies: Plan on wearing a modest dress, skirt, dress pants, or capris and modest top (no tank tops, spaghetti straps or racer back syles.) to church. Pants, capris or shorts (top of the knee) may be worn at times of ministry and at SCORE and partnering facilities. No short shorts or spaghetti strap tank tops are allowed at any time. Modest, sleeveless shirts are OK. Bare midriffs are not allowed. Concerning Men: Pants, collared shirts and shoes are required for Sunday church. Shorts and t-shirts may be worn for ministry. No shorts or t-shirts allowed when visiting churches. No sandals or t-shirts may be worn for church ministry. No tank tops or sleeveless shirts are to be worn except for athletic events. At no time are pants, or your bathing suit, to be worn low enough to expose your underwear. Shorts may be worn to do work projects. LAUNDRY Please do not plan on doing laundry. Bring enough clothes to last for your entire trip. Athletic teams will have their uniforms only washed after each game. Remember to check with your airlines for baggages fees. COLOMBIA // Ministry Opportunities MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES Work Projects Painting, Construction, Lanscaping, Cleaning, etc Children and Youth Ministry VBS or after-school programs Tract Distribution Distribute print material about local churches or salvation Police and Military Training Teams interested in working with these groups will need professional training in police or military Camp Ministry Our missionaries partner with a 178-acre camp ministry and teams are invited to serve alongside them Adolescent Rehab Center Serve 12-15 year old teens through Bible studies, crafts, testimonies, and encouraging teens in their walk with Christ LEISURE OPPORTUNITIES Most teams travel back to the capital on the last day and enjoy some of the Bogota has to offer. While in Bogota teams will have the option to experience a tour of Nemocon Salt Mine Tour ($75 USD). Nemocon is home to series of complex tunnels more than one mile in length and 263 feet deep. This experince will provide teams with some local history. There is also the possibility of doing souvenir shopping at local markets within the city center. 4 JUST GO
