A Brief History of The ARC Building Appeal. To kick off the ARC Building Appeal, a meeting was held at Lakehouse chaired by then Cr John Barrell from council. The committee consisted Alan Wolf-Tasker, David Hall, John Caines, Kel Tori, Linda Carroll, Sam Camilleri, Col LeLean and myself. It took four years of fundraising, included donations, events, functions, etc. to raise the $300 thousand required from the community. Over $330 thousand was finally raised. Rotary's contribution of approx $26,000 included public money for pavers. These are now located at the entrance. Businesses that donated $1,000 or more were able to have their logo imprinted on the bricks. A significant amount was donated by Bill De Long from USA who resided in Porcupine Ridge Road at the time. Without his support the building may not have been built. A substantial sum was allocated by the State Government. The State Government spent a large amount on the Secondary College upgrade as well. Justin Maddern commenced the building work in 2006 and building opened sometime in 2007 with the Ballarat YMCA as managers. The current managers are the Daylesford Neighbour House Committee. A donor s board is located at the right hand side of the front entrance and acknowledges all significant contributors in this project. Two brass plaques will be installed inside the foyer shortly. Coming Events The meeting on 7/10/15 will focus on Mental Health Week - a Rotary Health initiative. Please wear a hat and there will be prizes. The Signage: News from the Meeting: A small but elite group made up the meeting at the Old Hepburn Hotel. A mix up with notifications meant that the room was not ready for us and we had to share with other groups. The elite group consisted of Greg Thompson, Cassou, Ron Brown, Alan Harrison, Lesley Hewitt, Mark Rak, Danny Moynahan, Victor Szwed and Gordon Nightingale. Artober and Vice Pres Jan featured on the front cover of The Local. Daylesford Art Show signs were distributed for display in car windows. Gordon gave a run down on the last Artober Committee Meeting and we all applauded the article in The Local. With the redevelopment of The Old Hepburn Pub, there is no longer a room or area that can be closed off for our Rotary meetings. In response a sub-committee of 2 has been formed to review the current meeting arrangements and make recommendations on their findings. Victor won the raffle and immediately popped the top of the Rothbury Estate Cabernet Merlot and shared it around. Thank you, Victor. Mark is finding out whether a future meeting or meetings could be held at The Mens Shed. Such an event would be self-catered using the Mens Shed s excellent kitchen. The meeting closed early due to a noisy influx of Rugby Sevens players at the next table. Be sure to wear a silly hat to the next meeting or get fined! Guest Speaker for the 7th Oct. Meeting: Greg Pyers will now be talking about his book at the 7 th October meeting. See flyer below. The Annual Run For The Willow. The eleventh Run for the Willow carnival has been confirmed for Saturday 2nd January 2016. There will be a meeting at Cricket Willow this Saturday 26th September at 4pm. The Rotary Club of Daylesford has supported this event, chiefly through Joe Rozen, since it began. Raising money for Camp Quality it is hoped our support will continue. Men s Lunch? The Mens Lunch will be held on Tuesday 13th October at 1200. This is a fund raiser for the shed. A cost of $20 will give you a two course lunch, drinks will be available for an extra cost. There will also be a raffle. The lunch is open to men only, so bring someone along to show them the shed and sign them up!
