DOLOMITI CROSS COUNTRY SKIING SAFARI 2018 Cross country skiing in the Heart of the Dolomites self-guided cross country tour 68-213 km 8 days / 7 nights description During your cross country tour you will admire the impressive mountains of the Dolomites including the famous Three Peaks going from Toblach/Dobbiaco to Cortina d Ampezzo or the sundial of Sexten/Sesto a natural spectacle in the Fischlein Valley. You will experience the sunny valley of Gsies/Casies and the breath-taking valley of Prags/Braies with the serenity of pure nature on Plätzwiese/Prato Piazza 2,000 metres above sea level. You will start directly from the hotel or you will need just a short transfer to the cross country ski tracks. Character of the tour As we have more options for each day, the route is challenging for easy cross country skiers as well for more experienced athletes. During the briefing before tour start we will give you detailed information about the tour and the options. Also during the week a meeting is possible. daily proramme: Day 1: Arrival in Dobbiaco/Villabassa Individual arrival. Day 2: to Sexten/Sesto (approx. 15-45 km) Trough the open Pustertal Valley to Innichen/San Candido; Day 3: to Val Fiscalina - Sesto (approx. 8-20 km) Into Fischlein Valley - along the river Rio di Sesto ; Day 4: to Valle di Braies-Prato Piazza (approx. 20-50 km) Visit S. Candido - the cultural centre of the Hochpustertal; Day 5: Plätzwiese/Prato Piazza (one loop is around 7/8 km) Admire the imposing Hohe Gaisl/Croda Rossa; Day 6: to Valley of Casies - Villabassa/Dobb. (approx. 8-40 km) Winter landscapes, typical guesthouses in the open sunny valley; Day 7: to Cortina - Valle di Landro (approx. 10-50 km) Along the old train route into the Valley of Landro; Day 8: Departure Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay;
Day 1: Arrival in Dobbiaco/Villabassa Individual arrival. Car parking at the hotel or nearby available. Day 2: Dobbiaco/Villabassa - Sesto (approx. 15-45 km) You will start your cross country skiing tour through the open Pustertal Valley to Innichen/San Candido you will get to Sexten/Sesto. The fittest of you can go first from Innichen/San Candido to Sillian in Austria and then to Sexten/Sesto. On both versions you will be surrounded by the majestic mountain peaks of the famous Dolomites. Day 3: Sesto - Val Fiscalina - Sesto (approx. 8-20 km) Today you will be going into Fischlein Valley along the river Rio di Sesto beneath Sextner s sundial to the Talschluss hut where you can enjoy a marvellous view, a cappuccino or some of the traditional specialties of the region. Alternative tour: Nemes hut - Coltrondo hut Kreuzbergpass/Passo Monte Croce are inviting to drink or eat something along the route (transfer/ticket not included). Day 4: Sesto - Valle di Braies - Prato Piazza (approx. 20-50 km) From Sexten/Sesto you slide through spruce woods to San Candido/Innichen, the cultural centre of the Hochpustertal. Under the alpine skiing centre of the village, called Haunold/Baranci, the tracks will lead you to the West, following the open Pustertal valley. In Toblach/Dobbiaco you can visit the Alpine zoo or one of Gustav Mahler s composing studios. Afterwards wide snowfields will take you to Niederdorf/Villabassa. Going further you will leave the Pustertal and get to the Valley of Prags/Braies. Once again you can choose the more challenging version and surround the lake of Prags/Braies before reaching the high plateau Plätzwiese/Prato Piazza, where you will meet again with the ones, who have taken the direct way up on to 2,000 metres above the sea level! Day 5: Prato Piazza (one loop approx. 7/8 km) Today you can explore the wild nature of Plätzwiese/ Prato Piazza and admire the imposing Hohe Gaisl/Croda Rossa. For who would like to have a change: take some snow shoes and walk up to Strudelkopf/Monte Specie from where you will have a spectacular view of the Three Peaks. Day 6: Valley of Casies - Villabassa/Dobbiaco (ca. 8-40 km) Winter landscapes, local farm houses, an open sunny valley will be on today s programme. Typical guesthouses offer local food and some refreshment. Keep your skiers on and go back to Welsberg/Monguelfo the inexhaustible ones can go to Niederdorf/Villabassa-Toblach/Dobbiaco. Day 7: Villabassa/Dobbiaco - Cortina - Valle di Landro - Villabassa/Dobbiaco (approx. 10-50 km) From the cross country skiing centre in Toblach/Dobbiaco you ski along the old train route into the Valley of Landro/Höhlensteintal. You can decide whether to have our famous apple strudel at the lake of Toblach/ Dobbiaco or to continue until you get to the point where you see the famous Three Peaks and further on to the arena of Cortina d Ampezzo. Day 8: Departure from Villabassa/Dobbiaco Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay. starting dates 2018 Arrival MINimum number of participants every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 07/01/2018 (first possible arrival day) to 04/03/2018 (last possible arrival day). 2 persons
