EQUIPMENT BAY Location under the Spa Shell covered by Access Panels that houses the spa controller. FILTER HOUSING Assembly that holds the filter cartridge. FLOATING WEIR Telescoping device in the filter system that skims the water to collect floating particles. FOOT WELL Lowest portion of the spa where the suction fittings are located. HEATER Electrical resistance device located in the Spa Controller containing the heating element and 2 temperature sensors. The flow through heater heats the spa s water as it flows across the heating element. Heaters are available in several wattages. MASSAGE PUMP Electro-mechanical device to move water, consisting of a wet end and a motor. ON/OFF VALVE Located on Top Rail of spa used to turn water on and off to features such as waterfalls and fountains. OVERLAY Decal covering the Topside Console, showing button location for various spa operations. OZONE GENERATOR Device that generates ozone to aid in maintaining water quality. Ozone helps eliminate organic material such as body oils, dead skin cells and hair. SLICE VALVE Two-position (open or closed) sliding valve, used to cut off water flow so that the pumps and spa controller can be removed or serviced. Slice valve operations: up for open, down (toward the valve body) for closed. SPA COVER Marine grade vinyl covering filled with rigid foam inserts to cover the top of the spa. The spa cover is the most important item for maintaining consistency of the spa water temperature and chemistry. SPA SHELL Surface of the spa that holds the water, constructed of Acrylic and fiberglass. Available in various colors. SPA SKIRT Surround material that conceals the underside of the Spa Shell and Equipment Bay. Also referred to as the Spa Cabinet, Cladding or Panels. SUCTION FITTING Located at the bottom of the spa, used to return water back into the filter and pump system. Per UL, all pumps require two suction fittings and must be UL listed. TOPSIDE CONSOLE Button pad and temperature display panel located on the top of the spa into which various commands, control sequences and options for operating the spa can be input. User can set temperature, filtration cycle and mode through the console. Consoles have various shapes and button configurations. Also referred to as the Console. WATER DIVERTER Device located on Top Rail of spa and used to change the direction of water flow. JET Device that ejects water, creating water movement in the spa and pumps. 05

3. COLLECTION / DELIVERY & SETUP COLLECTION / DELIVERY Trailer Pickup (From CHCH or AUCK Warehouses, or Local Freight Depot) The spa can be forklifted onto your trailer vertical (on it s side for cage trailers) or horizontal (for flat deck / standard no-cage trailers.) Warehouse Collection: Please ensure you have booked a pickup time with Alpine Spas and your balance has been settled. Take your completed invoice. Freight Depot: When your spa arrives at the freight depot, they will call you to organise collection. Transport Delivery If your spa is being delivered to your driveway, once arrived, it will be pallet jacked off a tail-gate truck and left vertical on a pallet. You will then need to organize moving the spa into position either by man-power (4-6 strong persons) or via the use of a local Hiab crane truck. Hiab Crane Truck Assistance A Hiab Crane Truck is a great option for spa delivery and is surprisingly affordable. Local Hiabs range from $80-$140 / hour, usually have a reach between 9-30metres and can lift over fences, hedges, gates and houses. Access via a neighbours driveway is also sometimes a possibility. Spa Specialist Delivery If you have a difficult delivery that can t be accomplished via man-power or Hiab, a Spa Pool Delivery Specialist will be required. Please contact us for a quote. SETUP NOTES Shifting Your Spa Moving your spa will require man-power (at least 4-6 persons depending on the size and weight of your model). Packaging Every Alpine Spa is carefully wrapped in packaging to protect it during transport. Please remove the packaging and recycle/discard. If you notice any damage from transport, please contact us directly. Water Residue You may notice a bit of water residue inside the spa pool, this is because every Alpine Spa is thoroughly water tested at time of manufacture. 06

4. WIRING & ELECTRICAL INFORMATION Safety Requirements ALL ALPINE SPA POOLS MUST BE PROPERLY CONNECTED BY A QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNICIAN / LICENSED ELECTRICIAN. All electrical connections MUST be performed by a licensed electrician and the resulting outcomes must conform to all national, regional and local electrical codes in effect at time of installation. Wiring & AMP Information THE ELBRUS IS A 25AMP SPA Cable/Plug For safety reasons, there is no power cable supplied with an Alpine Spa. As our spas are either 15 or 25 amps an electrician is required to install the compliant cabling and RCD. A 25amp connection must be hardwired to your circuit board - talk to your electrican about your options. Where to Wire? Usually an outdoor power-point is required for a spa pool. If you already have one, it is may be suitable for your 25amp spa. Please discuss your wiring options with your electrician. Electrical Info Elbrus - 25amps [230-240V AC 50hz IPX5] (See next page for wiring diagram) Default Voltage Setup The Elbrus is set to the default recommended low voltage setup which keeps the max draw of the spa under 25amps, as all components run off line 1. The heater and jet pump do not run simultaneously. Due to the triple layer insulation and New Zealand weather conditions, it is not required to heat the pool while the jet pump is running, as temperature loss is not a factor (max 1 degree lost over 1-2 hours while bathing in the pool). NO DIP SWITCHES NEED TO BE ALTERED OR CHANGED 07

4. WIRING & ELECTRICAL INFORMATION (Cont.) Wiring Diagram ALL ALPINE SPA POOLS MUST BE PROPERLY CONNECTED BY A QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNICIAN / LICENSED ELECTRICIAN. All electrical connections MUST be performed by a licensed electrician and the resulting outcomes must conform to all national, regional and local electrical codes in effect at time of installation. THE ELBRUS IS A 25AMP SPA No dip switches should require changing. The above diagram is the wiring for single service - default 25amp low voltage setup which shipped as default with the Elbrus. To wire dual or three phase, please contact us for the diagram as required. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO TURN ON THE POWER TO YOUR SPA BEFORE IT HAS BEEN FILLED WITH WATER. 08

4. WIRING & ELECTRICAL INFORMATION (Cont.) Wiring Access Where to find your Balboa Control Box (for electrical wiring). Your Balboa control box is behind the marked cabinet panel in the above photo. To access, remove the vertical slats (upright binding slats with 3 screws) that are either side of the cabinet panel, to slide the panel out. Cable Entry Point A cable needs to run from your power point, into the spa and then be wired into the control box (there is no pre-existing cable/plug, see page 7). There are no pre-drilled holes for the cable to run in or out of, as each customers spa location/placement will be different. There are a few solutions for your cable inlet/outlet: 1. You can either drill through the cabinet and put in a cable grommet to seal the hole. 2. Drill through the base of the spa if your wire is coming up from underneath. Open a cabinet panel, locate the correct position of your cable and drill from the inside of the spa down through the base. 09

5. INSTALLING & FILLING Installing / Positioning Cleaning Your Spa As all Alpine Spas go through thorough water testing at time of manufacture, there may be some excess water residue inside the spa and pipes. It s a good idea to give your spa a quick wipe down with a cloth before filling with fresh water. Choosing the Best Position When choosing where to position your spa, the first thing you should consider is what is going beneath it. Your spa is extremely heavy, weighing anything between 1200kg and 2500kg and swim spas can weigh up to 7 tonnes. It is therefore very important you choose an adequate foundation that is strong and level to ensure there is no shifting or strain on the shell or cabinet. The base we recommend you use is either a thick reinforced concrete pad, or a well built deck. If you choose a deck as a base, please check that it complies with all NZ building standards to ensure that it can adequately withstand your spa s weight. Check Drainage You need to be sure the area in which the spa is placed has enough drainage capacity to handle the entire water content of the spa. In the event of spillage, areas around the spa may become wet; therefore, all flooring, furniture, walls and adjacent structures should be moisture-resistant. Check Service Access It is very important to consider the location of the service panel when choosing where to place your spa. If you are building a deck around your spa or sinking it in the ground slightly, be sure to leave adequate access to this panel so it can be easily serviced. Your service panel is located on the same side as the control pad (front of the spa). 10

5. INSTALLING & FILLING (Cont.) Filling Step 1. Open the Jets Open all the jets in your pool by turning them gently to the left (anti-clockwise). This ensures they are open and water can flow freely. Step 2. Open the Filter/Skimmer Box Open the filter box and lift the lid by taking off the two drink holder caps and unthreading the two plastic screws. Discard the polystyrene piece if there is one. Step 3. Insert Hose & Start Filling Place the end of your hose into one of the filter holes (at the bottom of the filter box). Turn your hose on so the water is going down the pipe and begins filling up the pool from the bottom foot well. Step 4. Water line Fill your spa pool until the water line is just below the perimeter LED lights. Step 5. Insert Filters Remove your hose from the filter cartridge, place your two blue microban filters into the filters holes and thread in tight. Replace the filter lid and screws. You can now activate power to your spa. Draining Turn off power to the pool & locate the drain valve on the side of the pool. The valve has a locking mechanism that stops the water from flowing out while you attach a garden hose to the cap. With the valve extended, unscrew the cap from the middle. Screw in the male-end of the garden hose to the valve and run the hose to your drain location. When ready, push the valve back in and twist to the left to empty the water from the spa. Remove the hose and male-end connector when finished draining. Screw the middle cap back in. Twist the valve and pull out to close off. 11

6. HOW TO CONTROL YOUR SPA Operating your Balboa Topside Controller Balboa Controller The Elbrus uses the Balboa BP2100 Control System & TP800 panel For operating instructions for this panel, please refer to pages 4-28 of your owners manual that is packed inside your step box. If you didn t receive one - email sales@alpinespas.co.nz for a PDF copy. 12

7. CARING FOR YOUR SPA AND WATER Water Treatment Ozone All Alpine Spas are equipped with the latest Ozone purification system. Ozone is a highly effective method of destroying bacteria and removing impurities, however an additional water treatment is still required to assist in keeping your water fresh and clear. You should have received an Alpine Spa Starter Kit of either Bromine or Chlorine. Chlorine or Bromine Guide Please refer to the handy guide found in your starter kit for using these chemicals. Email us sales@alpinespas.co.nz if you require one. Looking After Your Spa Do not bring any object into the spa that could damage the spa shell. Never insert any object into any opening. Do not sit on the spa cover or place objects on top of it. Also take care to remove any water or debris that may collect on the spa cover. Proper water chemistry is necessary to maintain water quality and prevent possible damage to spa components. 13

8. FAQ / TROUBLESHOOTING Spa Setup How much clearance does the Cover Lifter VX1 need to operate? The cover lifter VX1 from Alpine Spas requires at least 560-580mm of clearance from the edge of spa pool to the wall to function. Electrical & Servicing What amp is my spa and how is it wired? See page 7-8. Does the spa have a cable/plug? No, an electrician must supply the compliant cabling and RCD - See page 7 What side do I need to keep free for access? The front 3 panels (below the top side controller, front of spa). Can I hide the electrical cable inside the spa? You can open any side cabinet panel and feed cable through the inside of the spa to the front control box for wiring. Operating My spa is not heating? Ensure the spa is in standard mode (st or std). See page 12 for instructions. The heat light is not on or it is flickering? Ensure the spa is in standard mode (st or std). The heat light will only show when the spa is heating. Flickering or a dim light is normal. See page 12 for instructions on heating the spa. The jets 2 button doesn t work. 15 amp spas have one jet pump, while 25amp spas have two. Pressing the jets 2 button on a 15amp spa will do nothing as it is not connected to anything - jets 1 controls all of the jets in the pool. The Speakers will not play music. Check the ON/OFF switch inside the waterproof housing dock has been pressed and is illuminated red when on. For technical inquiries or any further questions email servicing@alpinespas.co.nz 14
